No, its perfect:

"In some cases, the code reflects a non-governmental unit such as gold (XAU) and silver (XAG)."

If only celebs starting accepting bitcoin for their music and whatnot and twittering about it we'll be really close to mainstream adoption.

I never did hear an explanation for why they didn't use BTC but chose XBT instead. I assume BTC is taken by some other financial instrument?

It's a pain, because most of us have BTC firmly in our brain. But if you pay attention to exchanges and such, many of them have been listing bitcoin under XBT for a long time now.

Because currencies not connected to a specific country start with x.

Actually, no. But using the current ISO standard, anything BT_ is related to Bhutan.

X__ is any cross national currency and thus XBT makes sense for the financial markets.

However, It's nice that the bitcoin ticker is on CNN Money Market's homepage! Just imagine when bitcoin is the 4th ticker on your favorite news channel after SP500, DIJA, Nasdaq, BTC Cheesy

Yes, really great news for bitcoin and us!
It's really give us confidence that very soon bitcoin will be accepted by other big companies and merchants and become mainstream.
Right now, people are loosing their faith in bitcoin and selling it in panic, for very low price.
We have to change such trend and such news can help and increase confidence in btc again.

Interesting article but still don't understand why they couldn't just call it BTC like everyone else.

GOLD shouldn't that be GLD and not XAU
SILVER shouldn't that be SLV and not XAG

What drugs are these people in the office in Zuirch smoking?

Cheesy

You should find this quote from any article

"Currently, BTC is the leading candidate as it is in common use globally. However, ISO 4217 standards expect a leading letter “X” for global commodities like gold (XAU) and emergent supranational currencies like the precursor to the Euro (XEU). To this effect, some leading foreign exchange tools and services have already adopted the leading code “XBT” such as Xe.com, Oanda and Bloomberg."
