Offical THREAD MOVED TO https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=977245.0

Vanillacoin was engineered from the ground up and is designed to be innovative and forward-thinking. It prevents eavesdropping and censorship and has security in mind. It also promotes decentralized and energy efficient network transactions at sub second speeds.

Why is VanillaCoin different?

  • Vanillacoin uses random ports at startup. This means your ISP doesn't know what you're doing just by monitoring your ports, like it can with bitcoin, peercoin or even darkcoin. All TCP network connections are secured using the Elliptic Curve Cryptography Cipher Suites for Transport Layer Security. So all your ISP sees is normal SSL traffic.
  • O(1) routing - allows for maximum scalability as the network gains. https://books.google.com/books?id=Do5ww79p3wwC&pg=PA9&lpg=PA9&dq=%22O%281%29+routing%22&source=bl&ot
  • Energy efficient - ideal to stake in the background of mobile devices. [An r9 270x for example should use around 100W while hashing at 90MH/s]

Additional features will follow as development continues - meanwhile please take a look at the whitepaper down below.

FAQ:

Does the miner work well with both GCN and VLIW cards?
Current miner produces a lower hashrate on VLIW cards and a higher on GCN cards. There will be different miners released in the future probably.
A user reported a hashrate of 20 MH/s on a 6970 and 30 MH/s on an 5970.

My miner produces a far lower hashrate than the other miners?
Change your driver version and delete your .bin files and start your miner again. Catalyst 14.9 seems to work well for most users.

Example configs:

270x
catalyst version: 14.9

@echo off
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
sgminer.exe  --algorithm whirlcoin -o stratum+tcp://pool01.vanillacoin.net:3033 -u USER -p PASSW -I 18 -g 2 -w 64 --no-submit-stale --failover-only --gpu-powertune 20 --gpu-engine 1010 --gpu-memclock 1250

280x

@echo off
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
sgminer.exe  --algorithm whirlcoin -o stratum+tcp://pool02.vanillacoin.net:3033 -u WALLET -p x -I 19 -g 2 -w 128 --gpu-engine 1175 --gpu-memclock 1500 --gpu-powertune 20 --gpu-fan 85

290x

@echo off
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
sgminer.exe  --algorithm whirlcoin -o stratum+tcp://pool02.vanillacoin.net:3033 -u WALLET -p x -I 19 -g 2 -w 128 --gpu-engine 1100 --gpu-memclock 1500 --gpu-powertune 50 --gpu-fan 85

Now with 4 million coins mined people start posting here after a few mined all those coins.  Hoping for pumping and dumping 4 million coins?  Same as like neutrinocoin and rimbit.  Mine all coins in secret then announce.  Makes look like marketcap is big until looking at volume.

looking at how quickly people jump to a new coin, the answer to your question is: definitely, yes.
Any real innovation here?

  i've been mining VNL since (before!) day 1,(on launch, there were some fatal errors and the BC was reset several times before temporarily throwing in the towel and running on testnet for a few days) the dev's stated goal was to create a currency with a fair distribution, leveling the field; CPU, GPU, ASIC, everyone will have an even chance to grab some vanilla. you can read the other VNL threads and catch up on the details, there was no attempt at secrecy.

  i think there is some bitcoin code, dev has also mentioned inclusion of some code from peercoin

This coin has always felt like one of those sleeper coins like Flutter, and with GPU mining out there's a new window of opportunity for people to get in before it goes huge.
