A Sydney man sold his sportscar to pay bills. And he hid it in the oven which never was used, apart from that evening when his wife decided to cook some food..

Most ppl use a freezer for that large amount for a small nick of time to have atleast a small protection against a fire. In this case, it was opposite. I bet he will never make this same mistake twice.

IMO, invest in a fire proof safe, 60 bucks or the freezer could have saved this man 15k.

It sounds like he'll get at least some of it back:

Quote
The Reserve Bank of Australia has a clear policy on damaged and incomplete banknotes and advises people to take their damaged notes to banks.

"If several pieces of the same banknote are presented, the Reserve Bank's policy is for each piece to be worth a share of the value in proportion to its size," the RBA policy reads.

"The combined value paid should be the face value of the original banknote."

If less than 20 percent of the note is missing full face value is paid but if between 20-80 percent of the note is missing value is paid in proportion with the percentage remaining.

If more than 80 percent of the banknote is missing no payment is made

I'm sure there will be Bitcoin versions of this story:

And don't start with advice about backups and such. We're talking about a guy who hid his cash in the oven here.

If that's the Ausie's rules on buying back damaged money, then this guy should get close to if not all of it back. They're all there, just smaller than expected. This wouldn't have happened with a US dollar.  Grin

For Bitcoin to be a true global currency the value of BTC needs always to rise.
If BTC became the global currency & money supply = 100 Trillion then ⊅1.00 BTC = $4,761,904.76.
