One can create a virus that will crunch coins.

Just imagine 100k of pcs infected.

When will we see first example?  Roll Eyes

I've been told that viruses exist for linux, but honnestly I've been using GNU/linux for years and years and I have never ever been infected by any single one.

I guess some type of botnet mining system would be possible...you would have to infect quite a bit of home computers to match the power of mining pools with specialized hardware.

I suspect that such a virus already exists.

It is silently spreading and collecting wallet.dat files as we speak.

Once it has incubated for long enough it will spend all balances at the same time.

This strategy will maximise its profit. By the time infected users find out about it, it's too late.

Now that's a scary thought! For the rich and paranoid I guess you could just use Linux Live CD's for accessing your encrypted wallet...

The virus will infected most probably to windows operating system when they are unknown,
But Linux provide more security.
The windows operating systems mostly in used.

What will anti-virus do if no virus is there.

Let's consider the possibility.

Install on a TrueCrypt volume and run only if the USB key is in and the volume is decrypted?

They would have to get it all at once because the first vulnerability is going to send bitcoin through the floor.

Maybe the designers already know how to crack it?
