GPU motherboard question

I'm trying to research motherboards that can drive 6 GPUs and came across this:

anyone know if this should be able to drive 6 GPUs with those extension cables?
and no, this isn't to mine btc etc. it's for another purpose, but I still could use some input from you guys who've built these rigs before.

Looks like it ought to, if you can grab some decent x1 riser cables. Is it going to be a graphics rig, or a computation rig? X1 socket bandwidth won't be enough for high-performance graphics but if you have a long algorithm computation it's fine.

Might need some powered risers with 6 cards.   I have not used them for a while with GPU mining pretty much dead.   There are some very nice risers that use USB and get you some extra space.  With 6 cards having some extra space to spread them from each other is nice.  Then use some kind of fan to push air though (assuming it is getting hot)

not graphics, just BURST plotting using GPUs and different alt coin algos when not plotting.

As an alternative, the following is an identical 990FX-based MSI mobo (I have this in one of my rigs) except it has four PCIe 2.0 x16 slots instead of only two.  It accommodates up to three double-slot GPUs (the rest on risers as others have already mentioned):

You are on the right track.  I know I have 2 of those boards in my parts from GPU days.  They were a little bit of a pain, i had good luck with powered risers.  With using unpowered it had trouble running with a full board of cards even with it's two molex power for cards.

I had no problems with my Asrock pro btc and am still using it for my computer currently.  Works great for me with risers.
