Ive got an old DFI Lanparty CFX3200 motherboard and I thought I would try to mine with it since it has 2 x16 slots and 2 x1 slots. When I put either a 5770 or a 5850 in it will not even POST however with a 4850 it boots fine.

Anyone have any clues to why this is?

EDIT: both cards will boot in another system with no issues.

939 boards from that era were infamous for not booting because of memory compatibility issues. A lot of boards wouldn't run Infineon chips etc... does the board run OK with earlier gen cards?

Also, not every implementation of the PCIe 1.0 spec was very well done. This gives backwards compatibility problems with PCIe 2.0 and higher specced cards. It may never work.

Specifically, this board was as finicky as hell. I had one. It was an enthusiast class board and had more tweaks and tricks and the problems that go with them than I can count. Number one thing is the CMOS is easily corrupted on them, follow the over night clearing instructions, remove battery, put jumper in place and wait over night before putting it back.

See if you can find an updated bios.... I really liked those DFi boards back in the AMD FX days....

Well to that point there are a lot of custom and not official BIOS for these boards out there. Oscar Wu was a busy guy supporting for DFI in their hayday.

The only card I tried that worked was the 4850. I was thinking it was an issue with pcie1.0 vs 2.0 but the 4850 is 2.0 just like the other cards.

I'll try and find an updated BIOS, thanks.

I also ran into this problem with some LGA775 Asrock boards, they wouldn't take 5xxx cards but booted with 6xxx and 4xxx so go figure.

It eventually too an unofficial BIOS to get it done.

I actually had 2 of these boards (one would not power on so I got a used one to replace it for cheap). I tried using a modified BIOS but after what looked like a successful flash it would not display anything. So I swapped out BIOS chips from the other board I had, which happened to have a newer version on it and now it works! SmileySmiley

You can save that other chip.

Boot with the healthy chip all the way to point of flashing bios, take the chip that booted out and put in the corrupted one, resume flashing. Done.
