is something going on? why is there so much thread necro'ing?

conspiracy theory: is there something important that someone wants not attention on? thread necroing is a common technique when trying to control a forum

There's nothing wrong with it, there's been lots of interesting discussions on here that lots of people will never see.

Of course all the new replies are usually off topic or talking about the thread so that's annoying.

History repeats, and there are lots of newer forum member that aren't familiar with the history and have questions about it. Some of the older threads still have useful information in them, or were predictions that came true and now require a closer look at the assumption leading to such a prediction.

This forum is a gold - er - bonemine. Start diggin' for them bones!

When searching for "Rally!" or "BTC will go to $50" it's fairly easy to get threads about 1 year old, don't ask me why!  Cheesy

Yeah, necromancy increases when both price and difficulty have been rising. Happened last year around May/June as well. Signs of a bubble, IMHO.

Part of it seems to be due to the mods moving threads to the new sub-forums. It looks like when they move a thread, it moves to the front page of the forum from which it's being moved as well the forum to which it's being moved.

All I can say is that this is Bitcoin. I don't believe it until I see six confirmations.

No it doesn't, redirects are a different thread entirely and it doesn't affect the placement of the moved thread, I've seen them end up on page 3 or 4.

But it affects the prevalence of the moved thread. The redirect is on the first page of the original board, and points to the thread.

Correlation ≠ Causation.

Of course not, I think it's merely a symptom of increased interest due to the price increase and difficulty. Searches for specific and older topics tend to come up again, this is why we see talk of the 10,000 Bitcoin pizza every so often.

Just an educated guess on an observation, I don't really have the time to "prove" it. I'm not too keen on asking newbies why they decide to post on these old posts, but using the laslzo pizza request as evidence, it seems to be to chide older users for spending Bitcoin like they were worth pennies, or learn why some of them made the decisions they chose to.
