Hi! I am using coins.ph . How can I sign a message using it?
Well i think it's not possible to do that, you basically do not own your private key and coins.ph it's just an exchange wallet.
Better sign a message using address that you hold/provide the private key as well.
Okay. Thank you for your reply.
I didn't have idea before that I cannot sign messages when using coins.ph.
I guess I have to use something like an app from blockchain wallet? Is it possible with that?
No , you can't find and signed message in app. Open it in a browser ,you can also sign a message with other wallets not only blockchain . Coins.ph doesn't support any signed message feature .Read the OP post in the firet page and follow the steps .

Thank you for your answer mate Smiley
Please excuse my noobness regarding this matter.
So when you say you can't find and sign a message it an app, you also mean to say that, like for example, in EXODUS wallet we cannot also sign messages?
There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

i assume you are using a mobile phone and rely an apps for keeping your bitcoin.
if so then u might use mycelium apps . the steps already on the first page , just type mycelium there.
You still can use coins.ph as ur hot wallet (for daily transaction) and use mycelium only for making a signature. So if something happened to you such as your account got hijacked, you can prove you're the rightful owner and the account will back to you.

use this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.0 to post your signature and wait someone to quote your signature and verify it,
you can use it as a prove later.

Many thanks for your great tutorial. Coinomi also has the feature now, but I get an error. Maybe I must debug coinomi or similar. I wrote coinomi but haven't an answer right now. Before I do something wrong, I wait better for an advice of an experienced member here. Smiley
I think, that I need first to get somehow the private key on coinomi with backup, before I can generate a signature.

Great tutorial, very helpful for newbies who I have seen having trouble understanding the difference between signing a message and signing a post.

I dont know what 'signing a post' means, so it probably just means to post something with a signed message?

Can you make one for 'How to get a PGP Key', as well?

No. This came up often in the past, but there are good PGP tutorials and creating another one would be redudant.

I would like to verify messages using a script, not by hand.
For what I've seen, I could do that by downloading the full blockchain, and then I can use bitcoin-cli API ( this command ).

If I can't download the full blockchain, is there any other way to do that? Maybe an API service like https://blockchain.info/api or https://blockexplorer.com/api-ref

Chain Query is really close to what I'm looking for, but I need to send requests from a script

You dont need the full blockchain in order to verify a message, you can point the client at a false IP and keep it unsynced. I mostly use scripting vs. a local node[1], but a remote API can also work, e.g. blocktrail's[2] has a verify message call.

Blocktrail's API suits my needs, thanks for your help!

I just stumbled upon this tutorial and would like to thank the OP for creating this thread. I've been seeing those signed messages  in this forum and wondered before on how to do it. Will definitely put this on my watchlist as this will become very handy in the future.
