Hey,
I have a problem and i just don't understand why it occurs. Please give me an answer or, at least, an advice: I'm using Catalyst 13.1 with SDK 2.7

- If i put one GPU on the x16 slot, directly into the motherboard, it works just fine with a single monitor ( without dummy plugs )
- If i put two or more GPUs on the x16 slots, directly into the motherboard, they still work fine with a single monitor ( without dummy plugs )
- If i put one GPU, using a PCI-E x16 to x1 riser, with a single monitor it works fine ( without dummy plugs )
- If i put two or more GPUs, using two or more PCI-E x16 to x1 extenders, they don't work anymore* !!!
* "they don't work anymore" means i have no signal on my monitor. The system boots, GPU fans spin, but there's nothing on the monitor. It's like when you need dummy plugs.
Also, it doesn't matter to which slot i connect the x1 to x16 riser, as long as i use only one GPU, it works, so it may not be the motherboard that have a problem or require shorting. The problem only appear when i try to use multiple GPUs with x1 to x16 risers.

Why the hell does that happen ? Is the use of dummy plugs the only option if i use x16 to x1 risers ? I just don't understand, please help.

Motherboard: AsRocK H77PRO4-M Socket 1155 , GPUs Gigabyte Radeon HD7950 3GB DDR5 384bit

bingo on the presence pins, also no one should be buying dummy plugs at this point they're always overpriced retaliative to their function(and usually not needed due to the latest drivers)

If you found that funny or something i said useful i always appreciate spare change

Thanks, i was hoping my motherboard won't require shorting those pins since it worked well with just one GPU in the x1 slot -.-

LATER EDIT: If i short those pins, the pc won't even boot up. When i take the wire out, then try again, it works. What am i doing wrong ?
I'm trying to do that into an x16 slot, not into an x1 as i don't have enough x1 slots. The shorting thing only works with x1 slots ?

I kinda wasted money on those x16 to x1 risers from what i can see. If i waste more money and buy x16 to x16 risers, will those work ?

If i use dummy plugs for the other 2 cards will it work or it doesn't matter: as long as i don't short those pins, it just won't let me use more than 1 card on the x1 slot ?

Try reinstalling the ATI/AMDI display drivers once you get everyone installed and booted up with risers. I had to do that with mine or they weren't recognized as 3D capable cards - just standard VGA.

Read again the first post.
Just trying to help. Maybe you should elaborate on what "they don't work anymore" means in your first post. It could simply mean they won't mine, which is what my problem was.

aha, nice mobo.
did you try to put the FIRST card with a 16x to 16x riser? (no need to be powered this one, but the 1x is a good idea)

I will try that, i hope you have at least one 16x to 16x riser Cheesy
