I'm not one to think that Friedcat needs to update us everytime the hashrate drops 10-20% below the weekly average... but something is definitely up right now. What's going on?

Seems like they started renting out their hash power (many new IPs finding blocks on blockchain, very low hash power for ASICMINER), should we still expect blades sells? Seems kinda hard to keep track of dividends this way.

Only one person who knows what's going on ..... but in the end, the proof of the pudding is in the dividend pay out each week, this week's pudding wasn't very tasty. Let's hope this is very temporary. There is too much competition coming online for serious mistakes not to kill dividends and therefore share price.

Please define rocky periods. Down and uptrends for dividends is to be expected simply due to changes in the time preferences for operational cash.

AM found one!! Grin What's that, like several hours.

Oh, the good ol days.....

You're talking about blocks?
They've found more today, but just not with the ASICMINER tag. Wink

https://blockchain.info/blocks/82.1.136.194

This IP found a block for example, and added it to the address of ASICMINER.

https://blockchain.info/block-index/402738/0000000000000047c930af80cfbc3979d1f97778049d62599113880a76622297

Does anyone know why Friedcat isn't tagging them?

A few pages back, people were complaining about the orphan rate and number of transactions per block of AM mined blocks compared to others. Perhaps he's establishing new pools and VPN's closer to where the "action" is in order to see if that solves that issue? And if its a new pool, he might not have completely configured it yet.

If I (in the US) send coins to someone else, I assume that my wallet broadcasts it through its connections and those connections relay it to miners somewhere. Could it have been that most of the BTC transactions are occuring in the US and EU and wallets were just relaying to the closest nodes and mining pools (lowest latency, perhaps?) and that's why we have been seeing so few fees and so many more orphans with AM than anywhere else? And if that was the issue, wouldnt the remedy be to have nodes situated in areas where latency would be lower (fewer hops between wallets and pools) in hope of capturing more of that? Not to mention that every block is a race, so if we're even a couple nanoseconds behind getting our block included, then it becomes an orphan?

Point is, we've all been noticing issues as of late, doubtless that friedcat isn't. Perhaps he's attempting to geographically disperse his mining power and operating it through different pools, and simply not stamping new blocks with the ASICMiner stamp?

Allow me to posit a conspiracy...

We do know that AM was the target of the DDoS attacks that were patched recently in bitcoin-qt. So, clearly AM's mining operation is in someone's crosshairs. It's entirely possible that there is a shadowy pool-level collision to preferentially ignore/delay acknowledgment of AM blocks, or perhaps some new form of network attack that disadvantages propagation of AM blocks. That could explain the orphan rate, and AMs use of new IPs and the lack of tagging.  Shocked Shocked Cool Grin Shocked Sad Shocked Cheesy Wink Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed

OFFICIAL UPDATE

The topic of the orphaned blocks and low tx fees in AM blocks was recently addressed by the board.

Friedcat is aware of the problem and Bitfountain is working to solve it. In the meantime, it is a negligible but necessary loss.

It is not as simple as it might seem. The problem comes from peering and poor bandwidth/internet connectivity in China and software optimizations used to deal with the situation. Companies like Amazon(.cn) also suffer from these problems in China. It isn't necessarily a problem caused by the Great Firewall itself.

Thank you,

~TAT
