Lol.  Truth speaks for itself in this industry, too bad there's little of it except BTCBTCBTC and yes $$$ in peoples eyes.  Breakout success is great and everyone wishes they could do that someday but not at others expense and loss.  Keep on keeping on "Engineer"!

My wife and I are saving up for a few trips coming up this summer so cards are off limits, otherwise I would.

Valkir has offered to order it for me Smiley  Already bought the sandwiches.

Doesn't seem right not being able to buy directly with BTC. I emailed them and told them I was a trying to buy a shirt to support a project but I didn't see bitcoin as a payment option and would like to know when they were going to add it to the payment options.

I probably won't buy one. How weird is it to buy a t-shirt with your own name on it so you can get the profits? I'll just support the project in a more... direct way..

I have to say thank you sidehack.  Thanks for being respectful to people here.  Thanks for giving to the community, particularly with this project.  Please keep enduring through the development frustrations.  I look forward to the future products you will create from this start!

I think right now our tagline would be something along the lines of "we don't suck and neither does our stuff". Neither of us is really into marketing - we're engineers, which means we prefer honesty and accuracy to flashy slogans and crap. Let the numbers speak for themselves, and you tend to get customers who understand numbers. BFL was really really good at marketing and it didn't take long for people who understood numbers to see through to the lies.

Depends on your ultimate goal. Own the world or products that work. You are going for latter.

BFL was purely scam not a marketing master class. If you have no intention of delivery on what is promised that is a scam. Just wanted to clarify. There are far too many scams run by ineffective delusional teams. Your team has a reasonable goal, transparency and is self-funded. That is why people will not require the "marketing".

You are in the same league or mindset as Spondoolies. Trust is the hardest thing to achieve outside the actual engineering. Your following is growing and requires little or no marketing because you're working towards a goal / vision not a profit bottomline. Build it locally. Build it well. Build for a specific niche market already asking to be first in line to buy. Zero competition.

Dogie trust abuse, spam, bullying, conspiracy posts & insults to forum members. Ask the mods or admins to move Dogie's spam or off topic stalking posts to the link above.

What I meant was, BFL kept getting sales a year after the whole world should have known not to trust them because of their marketing team. Their ads were very visible and any n00b looking for a miner would probably find their stuff first. Of course if you followed up on literally any claim they pushed about their product line you'd find it was an outright lie, and I'm still impressed they weren't called to account on that a lot sooner. But the only advertising we've ever done for anything we've ever made was posting here on the forums. No SEO optimization, no banner ads, just building stuff that doesn't suck and trusting the numbers to speak for themselves (and also satisfied customers, that helped too). I've done exactly zero advertising for our miner line as well. I've mentioned it to a few people when they ask me what I'm up to, and then this forum thread. That's it.

Also, I recall a study someone did where they interviewed a bunch of people entering the job market and asked why they went into their respective fields - because it was fun and interesting, or because they sought wealth. 20 years later they tracked down the same people and measured their financial successes. Of the original sample, I believe there were 300 millionaires in the group; of them, 299 went into their jobs based on a genuine interest and only one because it was a path to riches. I like those numbers. Tells you a lot about human nature - you're a heck of a lot more likely to be successful if you enjoy what you're doing than if you're doing it specifically to be successful. Novak and I are both pretty much constantly broke, but we're definitely enjoying the work. I'm hoping that, between his project and mine (these miners), we can start snowballing bigger, but what matters most (beyond "being able to pay the bills") is that we keep being entertained by the job - and that we don't compromise quality or integrity for the sake of short-term profits. With what we want to do, there's literally no good reason to go down that road.

Also, we've got about a dozen old S1s running around already. Thanks though. I wouldn't turn down more smoked-out S5... heh heh...

Shirts and burgers are both a good idea.
However, I don't think that there should be any discounts based on "shirts", and no "shirt-based" cutting in front, but it is entirely up to sidehack & novak.
I am just voicing my opinion as it all went in an "interesting" direction.
BTW, total shirt donation=$60 (=$4X15 at most)
burger donation=~$$360
I initially thought that it was better to stick to one source since "burgers" were clearly in part for development, but now I see that voluntary buying a support shirt is great as well AS LONG as you don't expect any favors.

people who try to buy-in based on buying a shirt look a bit silly, in my opinion.

That's one reason I rejected the idea of a VIP front-of-the-line for shirt buyers, is it's too easy to exploit. But I don't really like the idea of getting something for nothing (I hesitated to put up the burger address) so that's why I figured the $4 discount on a miner. I didn't ask for the shirt thing, that was all whats-his-name's idea, but since someone's giving us money we didn't ask for I'd just as soon it was exchanged for equivalent product value. I'll probably do something with burger donations as well, where verified amounts of sandwich cash could be traded for stuff. We'll see.

Last thing before i turn back to my other endeavors.

I don't think that you should consider any compensation to anyone for either burger or shirt donations.
simple "thanks" is sufficient-and you already have done that on multiple occasions.
donations were just there to help with the project that most people cannot do themselves
keep calm and sidehack on!

At this point why worry about a few dollars in donations or creative ways to achieve it.  It in all is just a way of saying thanks.  It's not actually enough to support what your doing at this point.

Though the burger money thrown in so far could cover about 60% of our materials costs. There's no wage associated with this dev work, so it's almost been self-supporting as far as billed project costs. Novak's lucky, someone's actually paying him to do his job.
