I was looking for exchanging ETH for BTC, hence, I posted on currency exchange section. For faster communication, I had added my telegram account as well. After couple of minutes, I received a PM in telegram, username- @suchmoons
He was trying to impersonate is suchmoon, I asked him to PM me in bitcointalk, then he disappeared. Never trade with anyone without confirmation from bitcointalk.

Screenshot of the conversation.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

Scammers are everywhere, and they tend to create fake accounts of famous ones in order to scam naive people. Not only fake-suchmoon accounts, but also many others. I don't know that is a real conversation or not, but you pointed out a very common method of scammers.
Unfortunately and hilariously, people often carelessly enough to fall into such trap.

Whichever platforms people use, they should aware that famous users mostly don't go first with PMs or whatever. Especially they don't go first to ask for financial deals. Keep it in mind, and being carefully, then people will be fine.

To give an example, there is a forum that uses Epochtalk software, a new forum of our beloved one. In that forum, you can easily see the pinned message.  On other platforms, being awareness that accounts with same usernames of famous users in the forum, does not guarentee they are same people.

Please keep in mind privacy and safety implications : Don't use your bitcointalk username or otherwise link yourself between sites if your don't want to expose your IP to third parties; Don't use the same e-mail and/or password; Don't assume other users have the same usernames. I'm pretty sure there are many other pitfalls. Be smart please.

These types of impersonations really aren't new, also, linking your Telegram was pretty much an invitation for scammers in the first place lol. Receive your offers via pm, and then give your Telegram handle to the person interested in transacting with you. I suggest removing your Telegram handle for now unless you want more spam. Not to mention I don't think someone like Suchmoon would use his/her real-life photo for his Telegram account(for privacy and anonymity purposes).

By the way, for privacy on Telegram, there are some steps that Telegram users should aware to increase their privacy and prevent contacts from strangers, and scammers.

Phone number privacy:
Who can see my phone number: I suggest to choose "Nobody".

Who can find me by my number:
I suggest to choose "My contacts"

Group invite settings:
Who can add me to groups and channels: I suggest to choose "My contacts"

Personally, I don't have demands to make friends with strangers, so I modify some settings like that.
Q: Who can see my phone number?
On Telegram, you can send messages in private chats and groups without making your phone number visible. By default, your number is only visible to people who you've added to your address book as contacts. You can further modify this in Settings > Privacy and Security > Phone Number.

Note that people will always see your number if they know it already and saved it in their address book.
Furthermore, in case you get such bad attempts to scam from strangers, let report them
Q: What happened to my account?
When users press the ‘Report spam’ button in a chat, they forward these messages to our team of moderators for review. If the moderators decide that the messages deserved this, the account becomes limited temporarily.

This means that if you have been sending unwanted messages to random strangers or posting spam in groups, you lose the ability to do so.

You will be bored sometimes, it reminds me the time when I used facebook from mobile (opera browser). I can't believe how I chatted with friends then.

I should have checked this out before, although all i lost was a $25 AWS Credit. I usually trust peoples but some comes up to be real pit.

Beware of him!(Username: @suchmoons)

Did you have any other notes about him? Like, where did he asked to sent the credits? E-mail? Bitcoin address? Or something similar?

We might be able to use it to identify him in the future. Who knows who will he impersonate next time.

This is unbelievable, thanks for pointing this out @op.

Those scammers are never tired of finding their ways to scam innocent people. Pathetic creatures really, as dumb as this may sound - I wish I could meet such a person face to face in real life...!

I have been scammed in the past as well (more than once), learned my lesson and will never ever again send funds first (except when I am dealing with very established members of course).

Unfortunately not! I usually send the codes to purchaser's preferred way(like Skype/Telegram/Gmail/Discord). He pinged me up in my Telegram account(as i have my telegram ID addressed in my thread) and asked me to send a code.
