Good day! My name is Helen Manasir. I’m 40 years old. It so happened that I had 2 sons, but 2 months ago my eldest died of lung cancer. It was a very heavy loss, I could not believe it and so far it seems to me that this is not true. This is a very big loss. I did not have time to move away from this grief. As 2 weeks ago my youngest son had an accident, I'm just in shock. I barely speak and write messages. My life just doesn't make sense anymore. I spent all my savings playing a beautiful funeral for my boys. At the moment I don’t have any money left, just a little 1-2 months of food, I don’t know what to do next. My husband is disabled, I need expensive pills and vaccines. I know that the eldest one was engaged in cryptocurrency, but I'm probably a bad mom and generally do not know how to work with it. This is my last hope and last chance to live and eat. My youngest son has about 5 bitcoins in his wallet. This is all that remains of the youngest son. But I just don’t understand what to do with it and how to turn it into real money, please help me please, I will be very grateful and I will definitely thank you for something.

Text me please in Telegram: @helenmanasir_1 or on Mail my husband: Johnbekker@zohomail.eu

Be careful if someone contacted you with the email you provided above and telling that they can help you there is a high risk that you can be scam if you give the details of your son's wallet.

Much better to stay ask help here on the forum than outside from this forum.

Anyway, Let me ask if what wallet that 5 BTC stored?
If you have access to the wallet you can send it to local exchanges in your country where you can sell it into real money.
Just tell us more about the wallet and if you have access to this wallet?  and let me know where do you live?

So that we can guide you the right way how to exchange it into real money.

First thing I can say is:

Be careful, do not accept anyone trying to help you via private messages or via email (as they will likely be scammers)

And second thing:

Nobody should send any email or private message to this person, as this person (OP) could really be a scammer.

So, what to do?

Everyone should make all discussions here public.

I can help you, but only in public posts here in this forum.
Do you have 12/24 words seed? Those words are the best way to access your bitcoins. Just download Electrum.org and insert your words there. Then send those funds to Coinbase, or any other great exchange in your country (like bitstamp, kraken, whatever) and sell those bitcoins for Fiat (about 50,000 USD now).

If you need any help feel free to send me a pm or telegram, no one here should really handle your wallet files with the 5btc stored in them, but perhaps you could send a screenshot of where they're listed so we can best help you? A picture of the window is all we really need.

State your country and we can help you try to conver them (check what the best exchange is in that country and also help you to send your funds to it and ensure your connection is as secure as it can be).

Also, I'd recommend using 5 or 10 chunks when sending funds since they're such a high value for the exchange to receive, they might not have all that money in their hot wallet sand there may be trouble with the transaction (if one bounces then you have to contact their support and wait a few days, but if the same happens and you already took out 2BTC worth then it's much less stressful.

First of all, my deepest condolences to you OP.

OP: This is very frustrating to you and my only advise is do not let anyone handle the private keys/or wallet for you. The only help you could get from here is the advise from the forum people. There’s a lot of articles here where you can learn how to handle the withdrawal on yoir own.

For all: Please do not engage thru private conversation, this could be a trap. The only thing you can do is give her the best advise what to do and where o start. This type of posts are too shady.

I hope you get the help you need, OP.

First of all condolences for your children, I bet this is very hard for you.  Cry
Like other forum members said, try to stay in here as there are many good intended people than outside this forum, but always stay vigilant.
One suggestion is to contact a well known member who provides Escrow services, in this way you'll know your funds are in safe hands.
Here is a list of recommended escrow services: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2439910.0

I will not suggest you to come here since there are so many scammers around that will take advantage for situation, and the best thing for you to do now is to contact the neighbor nor the friends of your son who is engaged with cryptocurrency and by then he/she can help you to get and encashed the 5 BTC remains of your son safely.

I am sorry for the departure of your son, I can only pray from here, you try to log on the local market exchange in your country.
if you have a bitcoin private key you can login using trustwallet which can be downloaded at PlayStore then you can sell and deposit it to the local market exchange in your country.
and please be careful not to send emails haphazardly because these emails could have been sent phishing or things that are dangerous for people who intend evil

I don't like to sound very rude but I want to ask if your youngest son is still alive since you didn't specify what happened after his accident? If not, then how did you know he has 5 Bitcoins in his wallet since you've stated that you "don't know how to work with it"?

Forgive me if I have offended you but the least I could say If what you are telling is true, is that I think it is  much better if you can find a person you personally knew and can be trusted like a close relative who are also into cryptocurrency and can probably help you with your issue. Imho.

Seriously? Another newbie account again making their selves pitiful. Is this the trend now?

Pretty sure it's another scam attempt whoever will fall to their trap moreover asking if she can just sell the 5btc account to 2.5btc or at least lend nor deposit her some money. What's next then? Nothing new, anyway.

Little you can do now is to find something on your son's things that might contain important information ( like a notebook ) and look for someone that you can trust, whether your neighbor or friend that is familiar with crypto.

Thanks to all those who responded with help, I read everything and your advice is very valuable to me. But unfortunately I am a very primitive computer user. And all I can do is use a browser and mail, a little messenger. I really don’t understand anything about it. I will be glad to care people who will respond to my plea for help, you have a wonderful forum. Thank! God exists.

I'm sorry for this awful tragedy. But you don't explain us if you are in possession of the seed of your son's wallet. A seed is a word sequence of 12-24words usually with these english words https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039/english.txt

Be very wary with this sort of pleads for help, wrapped in a drama situation to soften the reader. The likely outcome is that anyone who tries to engage in a private conversation will receive an "irresistible" offer to swipe those alleged 5 BTCs from their hands in exchange for some other sort of crypto or cash in some form.

Now if the OP comes back to the thread with compelling arguments and convinces us of the opposite, then so be it, but we know it’s not going to happen.

I'm sorry but if other beginners read this kind of comment, they'll never dare to post here. I think only advanced users should try to privately help newcomers but you don't need to be rude here. You can stay vigilant and assuming the good faith of the newcomers when you're replying to them.

In the off chance that this is legit, your best chance to recover the coins are probably by using this service:

https://walletrecoveryservices.com/
Bitcointalk thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=240779.0

As for everyone else, don't send this person money under any circumstance unless you 100% believe her story and are solely doing it for charity. If she is really in the circumstance she says she's in, she'll try to get help from an actual professional with a good track record. if Dave from above link can't do it, there's probably zero chance of recovering the coins.

That is what I'm thinking! Maybe the OP should modify her script and tell us a more convincing story because I believe there are conflicting statements around story and we ought to be very cautious about it.

In fact the OP didn't reply  or didn't provide further clarifications to my previous inquiry above which I find rather unusual if she is indeed needs the help of the community. Grin

Lol. The cryptocommunity has been already fed up with different kinds of scam that this kind of modus operandi will not likely  prosper. Smiley

Well, this explains everything. This is obviously a scam and people should be aware in the first place.

Scams are not moderated on the forum, therefore reporting the OP for being an alleged scam should have no real effect. Were it to break any other rule, then by all means report, but, as yet, I don’t think it has.

In my opinion, what’s been done so far is correct: people have spoken-up to warn on the possible intent behind trying to lure people to private communication channels. It is perhaps not yet flagrant enough to add a negative trust rating (*), and a bit less distant from a yellow flag. Nevertheless, if anyone considers these may apply, then go ahead.

(*) The name and surname do not necessarily mean the OP is impersonating the actress (could be a coincidence).
