The Blockchain.info app is back on the app store…no idea how that happened, but install it now before Apple changes their minds again.

Unfortunately, it is not the Blockchain for iOS wallet app, but instead just their block explorer utility.  [Update: Apparently, the real deal -- full wallet.]

There does seem to be a way to activate the full wallet functionality.
It is best to install it ASAP.

I wonder if Apple has had a room full of aspergic chimps working on attacks to clear out coins from iOS Blockchain.info wallets, and now that they think they've developed the perfect attack, they re-release the app?

Hmmmm, not from the way that piuk describes the operation of the blockchain.info wallets. They appear to be a fairly ingenious method of securing online wallets (private key is generated, stored and encrypted locally, then signatures are used to access the funds. Not sure how they validate the signatures! But it seems to work)

Any more specific info on that please?

You guys should put your money where your mouth is and stop supporting Bitcoin blocking Apple. Buy some Bitcoin loving Android phone.

Yes, that's what tin-foil Carlton was concerned about, the open source aspect.

I do understand that this has not done the Satoshi client any harm (far from it), but I have a good idea of how many developers are throwing their collective nous at that project (and also a good impression of their calibre as coders). Plus there's plenty of other evidence about the extent to which others disseminate and analyse the source.

With blockchain.info wallet, piuk appears to be the sole developer. Not trying to cast any aspersions against piuk, he appears to have done a great job judging by the feedback in the main thread, but I'm still not quite confident enough to use the app. I will be sitting back and waiting for the moment, as there's no compelling use case for me (yet)

Since the code is open, people can modify, compile and publish as an app. Or simply wait for the compiled version from Qkos Services Ltd and change it (Man-in-the-Middle).

Other than that its great for just monitoring funds in another wallet.

That attack won't work with the app store, the signatures would fail.

As far as downloading a malicious version the same advice goes for any other bitcoin software, just make you you download it from a trusted source.  You could easily download a recompiled version of the mainline bitcoin client that was modified.  Just be vigilant.

Wasn't blockchain.info fundamentally different in its approach to securing the wallet? I can't remember the technical details, nor am I an authority on them to begin with, but I do remember making a decision to move some coins to blockchain.info after reading some previous threads.

It would be nice to get a final determination on this some time.

yup, that did it. Uninstalled Cydia's version and the AppStore version downloaded just fine :)

That is necessary for many things since Apple has designed the iOS system with large restrictions on what they can do compared with things like Android, Bada, Tizen, Meego. Those four are based on Linux, which is free and open software.

Interesting idea... I ran into the same issue.  I removed the Cydia package and then the iOS version installed without a hitch.

Seems to me like a real Bitcoin wallet...that keeps the coins on the server, not on the phone. Not a Bitcoin client. Pretty cool.

No you got it wrong. If you choose apple, you also choose not to have a Bitcoin client. So you can choose between apple and Bitcoin. So don't complain once your choice was apple.

Apple and their walled garden system is the same as central banks and fiat. Looks great from a distance, has some (not so) hidden drawbacks. People got so used to fiat and to be governed by apple that they have a hard time to get into Bitcoin and free open source smartphones.

Or you choose to jailbreak your phone, or you choose to have a separate QR code reader, or you choose to build your app from source with xcode. I'm cool with that, and trust me, I do open source.

A Galaxy S3 with the latest version of android is so much much much better.

Seeing as this thread is already way off topic, I figured I'd throw in my two cents. I want a phone that works. I do not like that an arbitrary decision can be made to exclude a program, however, that's the price I'm willing to pay to have my phone just work. Bitcoin is bigger than Apple. Whether Apple realizes this or not is irrelevant.

Is the wallet app still available on Apple's official app store and still fully functional (able to send and receive coins)? Can someone with an iPhone please confirm?

Is Apple changing its tune? Was (re)allowing the fully-functional app a mistake? Will Apple's mobile payment platform, Passport, due with iOS5 officially support Bitcoin? </rampant_speculation>

It is still available - just checked. Yes it can still send and receive coin. Just used it :)

Blockchain It works on my iPhone 4S. No jailbreak required, I got it from the App Store.

There were only two tricky parts:
 - the QR code you need to link to your blockchain.info account is under My Wallet> Account Settings > Devices on their website.
 - the Captcha image is very easy to read and type. Just ignore the little squiggles at the front of the ascii characters - only type what looks like letters/numbers.

I've already confirmed it allows money to pass into the wallet, and out. QR code functionality also work.

Just want to say that the blockchain.info services kick ass. Definitely the best bitcoin related services out there (imho).

I just downloaded it on my iphone 5 and it works great - not full screen but scans codes- send and receives just fine

You should check out http://instawallet.org, cause they allow you to add a bitcoin address to your passbook app, and it updates the balance automatically and it really cool.

Please provide more information on how to add a Bitcoin address to passbook.

This topic is old, but I'm so confused by this... I have an iPad 3 and a iPhone 4, both running iOS6, neither is "jail broken", and both download and run the blockchain.info app/wallet with no problems at all.

Just open instawallet.org in Safari on an iOS 6 device.

Then click "add to passbook" button and it is that simple

Yep, blockchain.info is hands down THE most secure and functional online wallet. I trust my coins with it entirely.

Agreed.  Infact I just switched back as my main storage as it is the easiest option with the greatest security for my needs.
