Title: Why volume of altcoins just dropped drastically ?
Post by: shapeshift on April 03, 2015, 07:00:08 PM
There is a significant volume decrease at most of the altcoins. Except some coins , nearly all altcoins have very low volume (@cryptsy especially). What is your opinion about this? Why altcoins' volume dropped?

I have some conspiracy theories , but I like most the possibility of all whales went to holiday :)

Because 99.99% of them are forks of Bitcoin-QT or Cryptonote (Monero).  No value in them as you can make your own clone / Monero for free.

The wildcat days are over.

The shakeout has begun.  The industry is maturing.

People may think that Gen 2.0 platforms are sucking out all the oxygen...
But wait till Wall Street starts rolling out dozens of ETFs...
And start-ups on Junior Exchanges that you'll trade through your broker...
This "trust" below is structured similar to the Winklevoss ETF where a share = 0.1 BTC.

Fees will be miniscule...
I can buy/sell 1,000 shares at $25.00 worth $25,000 for about $3.00...
Flip it for $0.10 and that's $100... do it all day... can't wait.

I'm waiting for the Market Makers to get their act together on this one:

What are you talking about!!!????

Many of the weed and hemp nice coins have been growing in volume or are about to.

CANN up 150% in the last month.

THC up 250% in the last month.

CCN, DOPE and POT are about to blast off.

The value of CANN and THC have also been increasing a lot. I only own these types of coins so I wouldn't know whats going on with other ones.

No conspiracy therories needed, its bitcoin ... everyone knows it is at a threshold to drop to new lower prices or go high.
Investors just won't take this risk anymore and wait.

This is just it. The risk/reward ratio is nuts. Playing with altcoins is like picking up pennies on the highway

The majority of the newbies bitcoin has changed hands to the whales and there are no more newbies who are jumping in their shoes to give their money away on the array of crap coins that are available. Even good traders have no doubt been burnt on them and have called it a day i know i have, i only have a couple of long term investments that i got in cheap at the start. The only volume left now are the manipulators imho.

Monero and Bitcoin is also a fork from some older idea... Just as Monero from Bytecoin.
You are almost speaking if they invented the wheel.

True, actually even the concept of the wheel itself was taken from previous "natural" things. Every idea comes from an impression, humans may have gotten the impression of a wheel or circle from their own bodies and nature among other things(Ex: The tips of the thumb and all other finger tips touching at the same time form a wheel of sorts, animals dig circle shaped burrows all the time, etc).

Bitcoin itself, its core components, were taken from mechanisms others have built such as it's very algorithm SHA256, the cryptography it uses, and more. The point isn't to try to so-call, "reinvent the wheel", it's to make a better "wheel" that fits the purpose for a large amount of people.

yes, but we can still call it innovation, which package the existing substance to form a new things  or concept, not copy or paste.

Don't fret!

Your investment is NEM?

1 minute is a long time, 120x the time consumed by the Clotho-Hydra to achieve certainty, but at least I know (https://forum.ournem.com/technical-discussion/how-many-confirmations/) NEM needs multiple confirmations for certainty, so the situation is even worse.

I see no price stability either.

Hold no matter what.  Believe no warnings.

My investment in NEM?

You mean the .0065 btc submitted during the call for participation?

My 44,900% return on that investment?  Is that the one you're talking about?

 :D :D :D

*Cough* for the ones new to trading this is one of those magical moments where large amounts of BTC/fiat can and will be made.  The sad part is most will choose wrong and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't happy.

I suggest newbies to really watch what happens this month so next time volume stalls you don't fall into the obvious traps.

Many people has stopped participating in the altcoin market due to many scams.
People have less confidence unless there are whales pumping the coin. Then greedy people will rush in again.

If you want to know if your coin that you investing in is overvalued, manipulated and propped up by crypto cartels. Take a look here and compare your coin to this, then see where on coinmarketcap your coin fits in.

I have some conspiracy theories , but I like most the possibility of all whales went to holiday :)

Only three 'Alts' have any 'worth' due to innovation;

Litecoin - 1st major fork of Bitcoin employing different POW algorithm and emission/block times.

Next - Unique code and POS based.

Bytecoin - Original and actively developed Cryptonote coin. Unique code.

All the others are shitcoins and are totally worthless beyond this tiny shard of unreality called BCT.

Litecoin was just a scheme by the Lee brothers to get rich on all the people who missed the Bitcoin train. It wasn't even anything new but a clone of tenebrix and adds no real utility value. The whole "silver to Bitcoin's gold!" Didn't even make sense it was just a marketing ploy.

NXT is interesting but IMO it's nothing more than a cartel run op to sell boondoggle "assets"

Bytecoin again is also unique but was mined in secret by the creators.

Altcoin river is dry, thats sad but true  :) However every dry river has its dry river bed which seems incredibly large but first rain is usually able to fill it incredibly...
In summer 2013 there were alts being considered as worthless. Same like in 1914 people were feeling well like never before. Same like Rommel went on holiday on 6th June 1944.

3 choices - be optimistic, buy even worthless shit/scam-coins for almost 0 and hope it will get some new juice when bitcoin goes up again

- be pesimistic and sell your gazillion of shitcoins for 0.001 satoshi and go to work

- be realistic, stay in better alts only and wait until BTC goes over 500 again. Meanwhile build up some new company or write a book about strangers sitting home in darkness and trying to get money and sense of life from wasting electricity and building obscure PCs.

Dont forget - the PoW system of Bitcoin has its disadvantages too - its ecology disaster and really inefficient in many ways. Alts may co-exist if they dont try to make a better bitcoin but when they come with independent initiative. Making BTC 2.0 is not enough.

And dont forget the next important thing - the volume dropped because there are NO exchanges. Remember how many of them just vanished (maaaany of them), lost credibility (bter), was ruined by criminals (mintpump) or just was too craptsy (hi vern  :D ). Poloniex as the only big one today is just a shame of other ones - do you remember how unimportant this exchange was 1.5 years ago?

what a crock of sh&t....coblee examined the faults of previous cryptos and avoided what he learnt failed in them and one was the dev designing it to personally profit.

i've often seen coblee turn down freebee litecoins. and coblee's never held a stash of litecoin like satoshi or gavin (and still he requests 100k a year from btc foundation) have of bitcoin.

I agree with you about exchanges. however , I disagree with poloniex position. More than half of Poloniex's volume is just because of XMR and NEM. And after , changing the front end ow exchange , it became quite irrigating. Their website slowed after renewing.

NXT is one of the biggest scams about. You only get away with supporting scams in the cryptoworld in the real world you be facing court for supporting a known scam.

Quote
NXT is a 100% Proof of Stake coin, the first of its kind. Anyone with a modicum of understanding about how coins are generated will then ask, how do the people obtain coins fairly? For the coin to be truly Proof of Stake, they must be generated somehow in the beginning. Who gets to hold the first NXT? Was the coin creator focusing on making a fair distribution?

Let us use a metaphor to more aptly explain what happened with NXT.

Your buddy is about to create a house that, if it sells well, will probably be replicated and used many times over and make your buddy a lot of money. He wants capital and some investors to spread the risk. You can't give him much but you want to help, so you send him .01 BTC.

A week later, your friends ask you about the house idea and you explain it to them. They think its innovative and they want to invest in it, too. You call your house selling buddy but he informs you that the investing period is over. Oh well, they can buy shares from you individually, he said.

Now, the hype around this house is building (hehe) and people are becoming very interested. It's appearing like you could sell some of your stake at a premium. How much should you sell some your stake for?

a) a small premium, 1.5x what you paid for it, or .015 BTC
b) double your money, 2x what you paid for it, or .02 BTC
c) 5x your investment, this is about to get big, or .05 BTC
d) 50x your investment, or .5 BTC
If you chose “d”, that is the answer that apparently played out 78). And the investment premium only skyrocketed further.

NXT had an “IPO” for their coins, for being 100% PoS, they had to distribute their coins somehow. If you send them BTC, they would give you a certain percentage of the coins, that percentage determined by how many people donated by the end of the IPO. The coin creator, BCNext, left a loosely labeled start to the coin at January 3, 2014 and loose instructions that the IPO would continue up until that point. This didn't happen. The IPO was closed around November 18th 79), a full month early. Only 73 people 73 anonymous bitcointalk accounts were in the official IPO list, meaning NXT's 1,000,000,000 coin instageneration was distributed amongst these people.

What happened next was absolutely fabulous for those 73 investors 73 anonymous accounts on bitcointalk = about 5 main investors with 10 sock-puppet accounts each and about 20 investors who got some dust to play with (they where happy as larry for getting hundreds of thousands for sending only a fraction of bitcoin). NXT went to the market in a huge way. In under a month, NXT reached a market cap of $80,000,000 or 8 cents a coin (December 26th. Plus it went higher a few days later). When you look at what .01 BTC got you in the IPO, some 500,000 NXT, you begin to grasp what an enormous price jump NXT went through.

NXT reached $80 million market cap on December 26th. Bitcoin was worth around $700 on the same day. At .01 BTC, which is $7 at that time, you could have gotten 500,000 NXT 80). 500,000 x .08 = $40,000. …all from a $7 investment… if someone finds a better profit margin in around the same time frame (1-2 months), notify us. We're pretty sure this is the quickest and best performing investment of all time, especially when you extrapolate the actual value of some of the BTC invested in early November and October (~$120 per BTC. And this wasn't even the top of NXT's growth. It's one thing to profit 2x-10x of your original investment. If you double your money, you should get a pat on your back. If you get 10x your money, you should buy a round for everyone at the bar. What if you do 5,000x better than your investment? You should check your math because something is very wrong.

What does this mean to the investor now? Well, those 73 original IPOs investors  5-6 friends who are behind the nxt scam are kings of the world, that is for sure.

Just ask yourself if you were an original NXT holder and you make over 5,000x your initial investment. Would your plan be to sell it all, hold it all, or somewhere in between? Considering there is no other example of an IPO in history that has performed this well, only an idiot would continue to hold if they could. The original investors are looking to sell. The bunch of nxt friends will dump till day x, still holding well over 90% of worthless thin air coins.

It is amazing so many Joe's still can be found.

So it is true. The best lies are the ones that are close to the truth  :D it would take someone hours of research to disentangle the two from your post. It is convincing narrative, if you don't try to dig too deep. But I guess that is what you're counting on, right?  :D

What are you complaining? Now is the time to move in and HODL. Just buy big now and go on vacations for 10 to 30 months and then come back to sell for profit.

While you greedy scum were chasing the  initial 5 minutes pump i waited for this moment: rock bottom everywhere.
Now is the time to fill that bag of coins and hold it.

I'm accumulating now while you can drown here in your own tears.

Newbies are still coming to crypto. The days when every alt went up in late 2013 brought a lot of us here, and it is kind of addictive.
