Title: The Meaning Of Minions
Post by: WhatTheGox on April 20, 2015, 05:18:14 PM
What in your opinion is the sociological meaning of the popularity of minions?

These little bastards are everywhere atm, they are everywhere in UK anyway not sure elsewhere, they work for evil guys, there are many of them, they are pretty useless & powerless individually.

My theory is their popularity is partly down to society slowly becoming self aware of the current power structures.  The kids pick up on the collective unconscious of society probably clearer than anyone.  So if thats true the mass public are in a kinda stage of...... ok i see the power structure problem and for the time being im owning it until someone has a better idea - living life being a minion etc.  The owning of a "problem" is often one of the first steps to gaining control of a problem.  I think we are seeing early stages of big power structure changes.... do we have to look at minions to work that out? maybe, maybe not. :)

Minions working for evil guys? What are you talking about? Are people doing small jobs for big corporations minions?
People will do anything for a job if they can't feed their family a minion is really not the worst thing you can become.

There is a difference between popularity to others and practicality for oneself.

When someone needs minions they typically offer some benefit, like money. The prospective minion is like a small blob of slime mold that gravitates toward nourishment. He or she smells the money and is captured. The rest of the minion's miserable life is then typically spent justifying their existence. Something made easier by the group effect.

Nope a minion isnt the worse thing you can become, from my take of what they represent.... you would have no choice really in not being a minion. Its either go with the flow or get chewed up by the system for the most part.  We are all mostly minions atm, we hold together the systems which benefit the 1st world & rich elites but it suck for the poor as we do help contribute keeping some groups down.
