Title: How is forum activity calculated?
Post by: tyz on April 21, 2015, 06:39:47 PM
I am wondering how the forum activity value is calculated? In my case the activity mostly equals the number of my forum posts. But I saw some users which had around 500 posts and an activity of about 200.

Its all in the FAQ -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0

tl;dr you get up to 14 activity every 14 days. Activity is capped by your number of posts and thus can never be higher than your number of posts. You can have more posts than activity though.

this could help

Apparently , the activity changes every 1210000 units of the UNIX timestamp.

This equates to 14 days , 6 minutes , 40 seconds.

This means , after 3026 2 week periods , you would expect to gain 42364 activity.

But no , you would get only 42350 activity.

TLDR; Every 116 years you will lose out on 14 activity. Sad right ?

Q : How is activity calculated ?

The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Q : Help ! My activity (or rank) has not activated yet , even though I have sufficient posts and have posted in sufficient time periods !

Thanks, that is exactly what I have looked for. I thought it would be calculated more trivial.  :D

The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Rough summary of what this means: If you post once per day on average, then you will eventually get the maximum number of activity points that you can get. Posting more than once per day on average is useless for increasing activity. The maximum number of activity points you can get is 1 per day, but your activity score only updates every two weeks. Therefore, it will take about 100 days to get 100 activity if you post once per day on average.

Activity is updated every hour.

The new membergroup limits work like this:
GroupRequirement
Brand New0 posts
Newbie(none)
Jr. Memberactivity: 30
Memberactivity: 60
Full Memberactivity: 120
Sr. Memberactivity: 240
Hero Memberactivity: 480

I'm not 100% sure that the membergroups work correctly. Tell me if you see any bugs.

That is how it work.

Most likely if they posted more then 14 posts per period.   If they did this their post count could be much higher the activity level.

It is more common on higher level accounts.  14 per period is not a lot of posts.

AFAIK no. There is no such limit but there is another limit, 14 activity per 14 days. You can only get maximum of 14 activity per 14 days. Even if you make all 14 posts in one day, you will get 14 activity points.

Dont need to do this because if your posts is so much higher than your activity (above more than 14 points is enough), you just need to post 1x in the 14 days to get 14 activity

I my advice to you just keep posting your posts and one day you will also have the same situation like others have posts more than activity. I also thinks that its over now? Now you also knows the secret of the activity so please lock this thread now

Maximum. Both sentences are different. Dividing your monthly salary by 30 and saying the result you get is what you earn per day maximum is different from saying the amount you get monthly. I am poor at explaining but hope it clears your doubt.

Some people are luckier than others, like someone who has spent only three weeks and is already having an activity of 30.

luck has nothing to do with activity. as long as they have posted on 3 activity periods, a person can spend less than an hour in bitcointalk and have 30 activity.
