The activity number is determined in this way: time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration activity = min(time * 14, posts) Rough summary of what this means: If you post once per day on average, then you will eventually get the maximum number of activity points that you can get. Posting more than once per day on average is useless for increasing activity. The maximum number of activity points you can get is 1 per day, but your activity score only updates every two weeks. Therefore, it will take about 100 days to get 100 activity if you post once per day on average.Activity is updated every hour. The new membergroup limits work like this: ( Edit: Obsolete, do not use) Group | Requirement | Brand New | 0 posts | Newbie | (none) | Jr. Member | activity: 30 | Member | activity: 60 | Full Member | activity: 120 | Sr. Member | activity: 240 | Hero Member | activity: 480 | Legendary | occurs randomly between 775 and 1030 activity |
I'm not 100% sure that the membergroups work correctly. Tell me if you see any bugs.

Seems to be working a-ok so far. Should be a sound solution to spamming oneself into higher ranks.

Thanks for letting us know the details on how the new system works. Unlike most I actually like this new activity system a lot. Its a nice change, and reputation can be less post based and more time spent reading the forums. Goodjob!!

The next logical step would be to cut the status of people who haven't posted in X time interval.
You can't be a Hero if you've not posted the past week, you can't be Senior if you've not posted the past month. It'd help with the buying/hacking old accounts to prop scams.

This is bullsh*t. If your going to do a post/activity ratio crap, you need to have both available next to the avatar. No one is just going to click your profile?
It's discrediting longtime forum members. Please Fix this immediately!!

No, changing people's titles to "Scammer" and "Untrustworthy" despite evidence of the opposite is discrediting longtime forum members. This is allowing long time forum members to be respected for what they actually are--- ACTIVE-- and stop rewarding newbies for creating new accounts and spamming.

time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration activity = min(time * 14, posts)
I don't like it. It embodies the assumption that any post above once per day (averaged over two weeks) is not contributing; which I do not agree with. At the very least number of posts per day should be increased, e.g. min(time * 28, posts). And you should consider more sophisticated metrics such as sum of f(x) over all two-week periods, f(x) being x / (1 + sqrt(x/14)) or x / (1 + x/28). Time spent logged in will also be useful to include as a component.
