Title: We're building a wallet - what features do you want?
Post by: Insert_Bitcoin on May 15, 2015, 09:09:59 AM
We're a startup in the process of building a new wallet and we want your help! Our goal is to build something that every user will love. We already have a design outline, but we want to hear from as many people as possible so that what we create is exactly what the community needs. Let us know what you want in a wallet, as well as what you don't - and we'll build it. It's that simple.

You can share your thoughts and ideas right here in this thread, via PM, or (preferably) via our website.

http://www.mywalletisbetterthanyours.com

We're also seeking alpha testers so if anyone wants to help influence development directly and get early access to the wallet when its done, you can sign-up to be a tester on our website ;D

Planned features

  • Multi-currency - it will work well with alt-coins
  • Secure - payments can be done with smart contracts without the complexity of multi-signature
  • Simple - fast and easy to get new coins, excellent for new users
  • ????? - your idea here

A Bitcoin directory with business near you to spend bitcoins would be a good start :)

It would be great if it could do the following:

  • Read my mind
  • Give massages
  • Sort garbage for recycling
  • Filter pollutants from the air around my computer
  • Emit sweet smells when I am in a bad mood
  • Play soothing ocean sounds when I am trying to nap

Please provide a roadmap for the completion of these features and I will consider investing.

I would like to have some fancy charts of incoming and outgoing transaction amounts for different addresse I've created with my wallet. A wallet based on node.js would also be great.

I know, the thread title is "We're building a wallet - what features do you want?"

Those are the features I want. I don't think AI is required for any of those features, but I'm not the one who started the thread. I'm just contributing my input  :-*

I actually woke up with a good idea today concerning a new way to build light wallets but its quite technical so I won't bore you. The good news is you guys are really helping us plan this so I'm more confident we can deliver a kick ass wallet the longer this discussion continues.

Great ideas so far, keep em coming.

Doesn't blockchain.info have it already. I've seen it on their mobile app for iOS, but anyways, if it were implemented on a larger scale, it would be better. How about compatibility with many devices, such as arduino and stuff, this will surely increase your user base substantially. Make a nice feature  rich API too. Finally, I'd like to say that at the core, security should be of the highest level

There are a few services who offer that, and it has been built into quite a few wallets as well. It's just a personal feature I like to use :)

In regards to what you came up with: raspberry pi support is a definite must :)

Yes, raspberry pi, arduino, spark core, etc  ask those devices need to be able to easily integrate, then the possibilities will increase rapidly

Do you mean a full wallet with the whole blockchain or a light wallet? I assume you mean a light wallet because the blockchain wouldn't fit that well on some of these devices  ;D. Out of curiosity, what applications do you envision for a wallet running on these devices? It kind of gives me a glimpse of new applications for open commerce systems but I'm sure I'm only scratching the surface here.

Is this going to be a normal wallet or is it going to be a web wallet?

Also, I think improved security will always be a good sale point  ;)

Depends on whether you want to run it as a node or not....If you do, additional storage will be needed but that's up to the user I guess :)

Depends what the users what. I never really liked the idea of a web wallet because it seemed insecure to me but a lot of progress has been made with multi-sig so it might be more secure now.

Interesting domain ;D
I think the most important for wallet is security, improve your security to highest level is the best way for better wallet.

These are just small devices which are cheap. Possibly some open source hardware wallets, some new internet of things innovations. The possibilities are endless, you just need them to be compatible :D

There's already quite secure wallets e.g. Armory and Dark Wallet but I'm wondering if these are the most ideal for a new user. Imagine being a Bitcoin virgin and using one of these wallets and its talking about all these things like "multi-signature" when "cryptocurrency" sounds intimidating enough. You would start to wonder if you've downloaded the wrong program. Don't get me wrong - these wallets are excellent and we need these features but perhaps it should be abstracted so its easier to use. I know something like a third-party signing mechanism and SMS codes would be a good compromise.

I see what you mean. I still have a few more unanswered questions regarding achieving this level of cross-platform execution but its definitely possible.

Are there any particular cryptocurrencies this wallet should support? I'm trying not to encourage crap coins but I think there's a lot of legitimate innovation in the alt-coin space and I want to make sure I don't miss anything.

Why a new wallet?  Couldn't you help develop an existing one?

Sure, if our visions were 100% compatible but developing our own means we have creative control.

Making something that everyone will love is very hard.  I am a developer, and I need Electrum-like functionality with different HD-wallet-format supports, and access to hundreds of addresses and tens of wallets with easy clicks.  For me, Electrum works best for address management and whatnot.

However, I'm not like most people.  They want a Mycelium-like wallet that's easy, gives an address to receive, and lets you send without hassle.

If you're making a new wallet, build one that has completely Electrum functionality (so that is a fork of Electrum), with the following features:

  • Multiple coins from the same HD code (BTC, LTC, DOGE, MYR are the main ones)
  • Easily switch between wallets without using File -> Open (like you have to do in Electrum)

I'm an amateur Python coder (but can really do just about any language if you want), and would be interested in helping with the project.  Let me know if there's any desire for another goofy programmer.

Pretty interesting suggestions, wouldn't mind seeing this type of functionality :)

For the moment I only have one idea which I really would like to see on any Bitcoin wallet and it's making the ability for users to create a Multi signature adresses and it gets added to your receiving adresses and not creating it by cmd like on Bitcoin Core which is a little bit difficult if you ask me .

in-build chat
lightning opening of the client(better optimization of the code)
2fa directly added to the client, so you need to login to use it, and on top of that a msg is sent to your phone, this should remove the problem of newbies losing coins because of their low competence in security

Good wallet need serious security and fast BTC transfer times. I think good wallet need small amount of RAM. And not Web based, because of security.  ;)
