Title: ICO. When ppl started to accept it again?
Post by: Shadow_Runner on May 16, 2015, 10:23:08 AM

This is temporary thread to disscuss. Remember early 2014 when we had several ICO scams, some of them had over 70 BTC fill.
Then ppl started to reject ICOs and now after one temporary success of one coin we have over 9999 another failed ICOs.
And ppl still investing.

I have no problems with well prepared coin, escrow, roadmaps etc. But I see more and more ICOs without anything.
When I offered to escrow Black Market, "dev" (better name - scammer) ran fast. LOL.

Now we have "SeedShares". Hidden ICO, hidden investors, 30% of total coins. New way to have 30% premine?

2014 - Fuck ICO.
2015 - Oh, ICO. Great! No premine, no ICO - SCAM.

WAT.
Maybe I traped in reverse reality? When this "accepting line" happened and why?

Most ico devs have self-moderated topics. They remove legit comments. One solution is to make an unmoderated topic. They hate this, their coin will fail when people can read what they delete.

I think it's a shame this can all happen. Why doesn't Bitcointalk make rules. How many more scams do we need?

I'm sick of every coin being started by "coin name Dev" accounts. If the concept is that great and has been worked on for so long as promised most times, there should be someone or several people willing to put their real account and rep on the line when launching a coin if it's so dam great.

I think it is because we have a lot gamblers here. They don't care about their loss and trying to invest over and over again waiting for diamond success.
More gamblers - more scams.

Question: Is it forever?

That's why shitty ICOs kills potential good project.
Next time scared gamblers and other paranoid idiots will dump cheaper than invested because we had several self-filled ICOs I think when dev sending BTC from different addresses and keep his own coins to dump on exchange...
They are see this and think next time will be the same.

For me It's simple, if someone has a great idea then they would fund it themselves.

These ICO's are just a few dev's churning out many ico's with coins for the "inner circle".

Also C-CEX creates them just to keep their site alive with volume, at least that's what I see I'd like it to be wrong.

My rule is easy to follow = ICO = avoid. Everyone has their own choice so they must do there own research.

Yes, and it is not even just real ICO projects that are affected by scams, scammers have been giving the whole altcoin market a bad name for a year or 2.

No it is not forever. Sooner or later the authorities will arrest these people. I can not wait for that day.

Of course. If idiots want to burn their BTC they can do whatever they want to. This is their own choice.
But I hope community has normal members? Or we are minority compared to them?

It's possible that to post in announcement section should only by junior member or above but this would be judged as policing the forum but it certainly would stop most of the scammers.

ORLY? C'mon. Don't be a dreamer. This is more expensive than "justice". Who will track them? FBI? Interpol? Do you really think they are interested in this?
They ignores more harder crime and they will spend their time to find a geek who scamed someone for few thousands $?

Don't be a dreamer.

It's a gamble.
And not all ico got same success on community.

For example ARbit ico(with the best escrow outther alexrossi) gained only 6 btc of ico.

Some ico goes well, some other goes bad.

Depend fromf the algo, graphics, roadmap, and dev activity.

But i like ico.
There is noone with a gun in your head that tell you to buy.
If there is a good escrow,it's just your choice to buy, mine, instamine.

I hate instaminer for example.

Some of them have bot that instamine all new coin.

They are ruined the altcoin scene.

Escrow. Plans. Small ICO (not 30-50%). How many ICOs are matches this?
I see over and over again ICOs withou escrow, without nothing.

And last crust is "hidden ICO with hidden investors". What's next? Ninja launch with already filled 50% ICO by hidden investors from Zimbabwe?

It's a gamble.

Yes that is true. But there is a difference between gambling on a project that does not have the interest you first expected so price slowly slumps as project goes on. Compared to someone taking 50+ BTC from ICO investors, having fancy graphics and lots of words/docs. Then leaving after a week or 2 if your lucky and leaving you with nothing.

Personally I watch an ICO and after 2 weeks on markets if it hasn't been a P&D and dev is working/community building I look to buy into it in the free market.

ICO without escrow is just crazy and totally a gamble.

What is hidden ICO?

SeedShares. No address, no tx, no stats about investments. Only few words from dev about several private investors.

Hello Peter Caruana,

My name is Huang Zhiling, and I work at China Construction Bank, Hong Kong. We have just concluded an investigation which was not productive in respect of a global search of any kind of relative to a deceased client of ours named Mr. Nate Caruana who has an investment placed under my management 14 years ago.

The main reason of contacting you now is because our investigation results, you not only share the same last name as the deceased, but your profile best fits what I intend to do. I hope that you will be interested in my proposal as regards to the prospective opportunities and return it could provide for both of us, please take your time to read. Please find below a summarized biography of the deceased's personality and also the purpose of contact with you and do note that this business deal is strictly confidential meanwhile to clarify your email, once you confirm your readiness before I can bring you in and introduce you as the next of kin to late Nate Caruana.

About Late Nate, he was a miner / mining consultant most of his life, who spent most part of his life working in South Africa, Indonesia, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. He migrated into Hong Kong a long time ago as an orphan at the age of 6; this made it difficult to have any link with his immediate extended family, as he was raised by a Priest (Rev. George Good of blessed memory) His ailment began when he lost his family (wife and their only. daughter) in a mysterious circumstance during a vacation visit to Northern Africa, he became devastated as a result of the shock from the news of the death of his family, subsequently fell sick (mentally), as he was been treated, his condition deteriorated, he suffered severe brain damage which eventually caused him to slip into coma, he later lost the fight and passed away. Prior to the unfortunate situation he confided in me that he had never known his father or his family and it had made it difficult for him to connect anyone from his lineage.

Late Nate entered a financial investment of about $ 55,000,000.00 (Fifty five million United States dollars) which he wished to have us turn over (invest) for ten years. We worked on strategies in line with the volume of fund at our disposal strategically investing in equity and equity related securities including venture capital. We spun the money around various diversified medium term programs and then attracting a margin in profit of 7.5% annually mostly in shares. This investment is now worth US $ 96,250,000.00 (Ninety six million, two hundred and fifty thousand United States dollars). In 2012, after the arrears were due, we noticed the inactivity on his portfolio, hence my office initiated an investigation which lasted for 18 months and had not found any next of kin as Nate was intestate in his belief. in line with his philosophy in enouncing valuables He also did not leave any known immediate family member behind because of his background and upbringing as an orphan;. Hence this is my primary reason for contacting you He lived a very prosperous and generous life, May his soul rest in peace. After his painful death, we tried severally to trace / locate anyone who could be slightly related to him, this task has been very challenging due to the circumstance of his migration into the Hong Kong, we tried to establish a connection from his only known roots (the orphanage) where he was raised, but almost everyone that knew him then have passed on. All efforts were unsuccessful. Recently I received news that has rekindled the need to locate his next of kin urgently, Hence my contact with you. Considering the similarity in your surnames and also we have some clues which has led us to believe that there is a geographical root connection between our late client and you. It is my wish to explore the possibility of establishing and presenting you as the next of kin / legal beneficiary of my late client. I have every information as well as resources here in Hong Kong and I am prepared to place you in a beneficiary's position as the rightful next of kin to Nate estate. The deposit hopefully should be released to you within a couple of weeks after all the necessary paper work has been put together and filed in accordance with the inheritance act law of no claims circumstance. We can then share in a ratio of 60% for me and 40% for you. But before I proceed to divulge further details, I require that you re-confirmed and send to me your complete background information which should include the following below.

1) Full Names (Surname, others) As Stated in the Letter You received.
2) Contact info (Physical address)
3)Telephone, Fax and Mobile Numbers
4) Age, Marital Status, Religious Affiliation and Current Occupation.
5) A valid copy of your International Passport or Driver's license Copy.

Upon receipt of the above requested information, I will furnish you with further detailed information of your expected role in order to achieve the successful realization of this objective "transfer of title of ownership" (Inheritance) to you. Thank you for your time, understanding and full anticipated cooperation.

I think the only way to stop ICO scams is to educate people they they are very likely getting scammed and they shouldn't invest into them. They are probably have more chances of making a profit with a random shady ponzi site. If you trust a random new account with your BTC because of a few bulletpoints and pretty images I think you have no right to get upset if you get parted with said BTC.

If I had my tinfoil hat on looking at all the new ICO and SHA256 coins I might be wondering whether or not there is a new group that is keep pushing out coins with different flavors.

When this "accepting line" happened and why?

When there became more sockpuppet accounts controlled by scammers than the actual number of people posting here. Right around then.

Those who purchased Rimbit via Indiegogo should be demanding a refund from their credit card company now, because the campaign violated Indiegogo's Terms of Service on Prohibited Perks, thus the tokens will now be scorned and worthless.

This $151,806 loss for Indiegogo and huge number of chargebacks jeopardizing their merchant account relationship with the credit card companies, will hopefully incentivize Indiegogo to take legal action against Marcelo Karlsson. Hopefully they will also report him to the SEC so they can hopefully begin an investigation into the investments scams in crypto currency.

I have an inkling this smallish scam may be the one that ignites the fire that brings down the entire ICO altcoin ecosystem.

Edit: the SEC has recently warned (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1218399.msg14203520#msg14203520) about those who are getting involved in these crypto-currency scams and I hope Indiegogo takes the SEC warning seriously.

Why doesn't Bitcointalk make rules. How many more scams do we need?

I think it is because we have a lot gamblers here. They don't care about their loss and trying to invest over and over again waiting for diamond success.
More gamblers - more scams.

Question: Is it forever?
Yeah that's at least part of it.  And there are an awful lot of utter fucking morons, too.  Add the gamblers and the morons and then the scammers as well and that should account for why there are so many shitcoins.
