They are also monitored by people in Greece. A single new Bitcoin ATM machine has just appeared in Athens. I suggest that this is a rare strategic opportunity to get Bitcoin a bit of temporary propulsion. Retweet this tweet and try to get it to float. All the appropriate hashtags are contained but feel free to propagate. Bitcointalk has a huge audience and this is a nothing-to-loose opportunity. Bitcoin can do 2 things for people in Greece: [1] - facilitate electronic transfers of cash. People are avoiding using credit cards or debit cards right now because they're worried their money's going to dissapear down a hole. Everyone wants cash. There are limited amount of the money for them that can be used to buy bitcoin. Besides that, they need spare money for daily consumption. But for most of us, it will be a good lesson for heavily fiat money holders.

It is a pita to get them, they can't just buy them at the store. Plus their money is stuck in the banks. There will be serious limits at the banks for the near future because the Greek government knows that the run will continue. So imo it is too late for the Greek people to take advantage of bitcoins.

I've been watching Google trends and it looks like that Bitcoin is getting more attention recently. We need someone with a lot of followers from Greece to pick it up. The news is actually almost everywhere. I've been trying to find news from countries that are small and could be considered irrelevant. After a while of translating and searching I've found articles that are related in a lot of places. "Under certain situation" - you mean when your country's economy is crumbling, banks are closed and your FIAT is frozen and unable to be claimed? I am sure that bitcoin popularity could capitalize on that. The only problem that in our current state, you can have bitcoin ATM but you can't buy groceries for bitcoin. So what is the point? Despite the barriers (limits on cash withdrawals, poor exposure and ignorance of BTC) it is a good option for such a crisis. Yes it may be too late but there could always be a "next time" as I see it all of Europe is going down the drain. I'm sure greece's neighbours are watching and taking notes.
BTC won't take over tomorrow, but every situation like this moves it that much closer. Better retweeted than sorry |
