Midnight is a combined proof-of-work and proof-of-stake cryptocurrency that uses the Blue Midnight Wish hashing algorithm throughout, for block hashes as well as additional replacement of Bitcoin's double-SHA256 hashing.  Proof-of-work in Midnight is ongoing.  The initial mining emission is a high reward using a triangle waveform, with proof-of-stake high rewards interleaved.  After approximately 15 days of high reward period, the block reward for both POW and POS goes to 1 MDT per block, and halves every year to a floor of 0.125 MDT for POW and 0.25 MDT for POS.  Every 720 blocks is a 100 MDT coin reward, which acts as an incentive to mine on a continuous basis.

Midnight can be mined right from the wallet or daemon by entering "setgenerate true" in the RPC console (Help->Debug Window), or passing -gen=1 on the command line or placing gen=1 in the midnight.conf file.

Midnight includes 1-click Midnight Nodes.  The masternodes receive 33% of the stake reward and 10% of the stake reward goes to the Midnight Reserve stabilization & dev support fund.  More details about the Midnight Reserve will be released in the near future.

Midnight's high reward phase has been designed to reward both early and late miners, so everyone has a chance to get onboard.  The efficiency of the BMW algorithm means you can mine with old hardware, cloud mine, or mine however you like.  Eventually we anticipate that someone will develop an FPGA or GPU miner.

Midnight Specs

Ticker symbol: MDT
Block spacing: 60 seconds
Maturity: 40 blocks
Min Stake Age: 4 hours
Port: 28801
RPC Port: 28802
Midnight Node Amount: 5000 MDT

How to mine it without miner?
In the wallet open the RPC console and type:

Code:
setgenerate true

Blue Midnight Wish is a very fast hashing algorithm with performance similar to shabal.  It was one of the entries in the SHA-3 competition.  Midnight is using the BMW-256 hash.  Mainly its just really fast, and when I tested it on Linux with htop it sits around 1% cpu use for me on an i7 quad core even while staking.  I imagine it will be attractive for staking on a raspberry pi.

I type setgenerate true 2, and the wallet is using all four of my cores, not just 2. Not stressing out my computer with solo mining.

If you can let me know what you find I'll fix it ;)  I know that the Windows wallet has the crash-on-first-run we inherited from blackcoin that I'm still trying to figure out, and the tooltip background on windows is white-on-white which I have a fix for.  If there's anything else let me know and I'll take care of it.

OK here is the miner:

https://github.com/ocminer/cpuminer-bmw

I've just hacked the qubit Algo for BMW mining atm, that means you'll need to use "-a qubit" for mining.

Use it like this:

Code:
./cpuminer -a qubit -o stratum+tcp://mdt.suprnova.cc:5146 -u yourusername.yourworkername -p x

If someone could please compile this for Windows would be awesome !

Anyone can compile my miner under windows with an build environment, its a fork from tpruvots miner, which compiles perfectly in windows.

Wallet only lets you mine with 8 cores... on Xeon cpus with more cores using setgenerate true 24 only lets you mine with 8 cores. looks like algo is not optimized either, with all 8 cores  on 4770k cpu at 60-70%..

Well you can barely find any new algo coin with a miner at launch. And IMO distribution is better with in-wallet mining at first

A GPU miner (ccminer) is quite easy to implement - I cannot do it until I'm back home at my testrig, maybe someone else can do it sooner.

Yes no problem, coins can be sent when masternode is no longer needed or wanted. Coins must stay in your wallet for masternode to work.

didnt made binaries... which are all tagged by anti viruses ;) so build it... and see who is right :p

PS: MSVCR120D means you built a Debug binary (slower)

That does not look like a valid address for me either.

midnight/src/midnightd validateaddress 808080Mfh459BfapDrVm6DZmE8ffqN3UUmZHZ7Ny

GPU miner is extremely easy to build, everything is already there, if I'd have my test-rig ready I'd build it in 5 min, maybe less.

Probably (most likely) someone else did that already.

I forked sgminer and am modifying it.  It probably will not be optimized as it is doing the full 512-bit bmw hash and we are using BMW-256 but maybe somebody can then take it and optimize it once I have a compileable version put up in github.

Well, it appears I'll have to wait for an exchange to get my 5000 coins.  :) Even if a gpu miner does crop up for the masses, my 7570 just does not have what it takes.
P.S. Please do not PM me with offers to sell your coins to me. Don't take it personally, but I'm not that trusting. Although I do realize an exchange can screw me over just as bad. LOL

All coins until now lol ....... But seriously i dont say its totally instamined since the algorithm is new and at first cpu miners were mining. We had a chance to mine with cpu for a while and then someone build a gpu miner i think and gpu miner is mining this coin shortly after the launch yesterday

I added a fork of sgminer to the repo:

https://github.com/midnightmdt/sgminer

I made the changes I think are needed but need to get some dependencies installed to compile it and try it out.  If anyone else wants to try compiling it and test it out feel free.  You should be able to specify "midnight" as the algo.

Made a Windows build with Mingw64 of sgminer.  It runs, doesn't like my NVidia card... I haven't tested this on my rig with an ATI card yet, about to do that, but if anyone wants to try it:

runs with --algorithm midnight

Ok I got a build that successfully compiles the kernel for the gpu on both my NVidia and my ATI machines:

sgminermdt-windows-upd.zip (https://mega.co.nz/#!8NUWnTJR!D6GNPY5N6YUx8TKDUDmL0kjqoXy8Z4kViDX0JUyk8U0)

The only problem I'm having with it now is that it just spews hardware errors.  So that is down to either tweaking the midnight.cl kernel file or adjusting settings, but somebody can do that without having to recompile the miner itself.

WTB 10k MDT for .06 btc guys, anyone interested pm me  :)

Since no one is interested to sell, i will wait for an exchange. My offer is closed for now, will see how this coin rolls out in exchanges

With the instamine and gpu miner, you should be able to score some coins for cheap if and when this hit an exchange. :D

How many coins were instamined?

All coins until now lol ....... But seriously i dont say its totally instamined since the algorithm is new and at first cpu miners were mining. We had a chance to mine with cpu for a while and then someone build a gpu miner i think and gpu miner is mining this coin shortly after the launch yesterday
Too bad this was killed by a few with soooo much greed, that they screwed themselves...

Every coin that is launched now is early miners get the reward. When will the devs learn, they kill their coins because of greed. Well, some will buy it on the exchange and several will be burned. This coin could have done better. Next coin please.  ;D

Don't think it is Earlz, he wouldn't have mistaken bmw512 for 256. That guy clearly know nothing about cryptography
(which isn't the case of Earlz).
There were some real thought and work behind the pluck algo, he didn't just pick one algo of sphlib

No help. Still HW errors and wrong difficulty. It chose midnight.cl even with -k midnight. There must be something wrong with that kernel file.
