I was doing a little research in google trends in order to understand as places has more Regional interest for BTC this year,When I came across a very different result than I expected to see.

The first country on the list is slovenia (link below) , I've never seen anything that relates slovenia with BTC,I searched on google but did not find much related thing what else is found on the nuclear deal with Iran (hahaha).

Could someone explain to me why slovenia has a high level of research for BTC?

Slovenians are smart people. The could the exact opposite of the British. You don't see much binge drinking in Ljubljana, and when the Brits are big spenders, the Slovenians are big savers. They're the people who make you believe in Europe. If there ware only Germans, Slovenians, Estonians and people like that in the EU, it would rule the world. Unfortunately, people like the Greeks or the French are wrecking it.

the high interest come from there, so it isn't a new thing, because bitstamp is fairly old as an exchange

There are a lot of exchanges that are based over those countries. I think besides Bitstamp, BTC-e was also from slovenia, which made a lot of people weary of sending money over there. There shouldn't be any problem tho, with average SEPA transaction I would have any worries. The problem would be if your local bank sends some transaction to slovenia, it may raise some alarms.

If i'm not wrong Bitstamp is based in U.k, but they have their bank in slovenia, also for coinbase if i remember well

Based in the UK in the sense of renting a small box for post to arrive at. All the real work happens in Slovenia.

I think Coinbase's EU bank is Estonian.

Hmm yeah Bitstamp is based in UK now, but initially operated in Slovenia then moved to UK in April 2013. The Bitstamp CEO is a Slovenian entrepreneur and bitcoin enthusiast, Nejc Kodrič.

It's in the UK on paper and that's all. Every name I've heard associated with it is Slovenian.

There is no clear information available as to where Bitstamp's operations are located or whether they actually have any presence at all in the UK, or are still run out of Slovenia.'

BTC-e is actually based in Bulgaria, which is still part of the EU so there shouldn't be any problems. I think there was a russian based exchange, and thats where people had a lot of doubts depositing money over there.

No one knows. It seems you need to translate your moaning into Russian to actually get noticed if you have a problem. They claimed to be under Cypress jurisdiction at one point. Bulgaria seems to be the one that pops up most often now.

It would be lovely to have EU exchanges without a single question mark surrounding them. It still amazes me that people put up with it.

1.One of the reason could be  Bitstamp, a Slovenia based Bitcoin exchange, is one of toppers in terms of trading volume.(Now in UK)
2.Another reason could be solvenia is Europe's Top 5 Countries for Bitcoin ATMs.

Your question is like asking "Why the Americans are so capable to have created the most powerful and developed economy of the world?". There are thousand thoughts and arguments that can be told. Some will be right and some others wrong. But one it will be for sure the right one. Simple because are the most capable people in the world. Are they who which their minds and their hands that have created such economy.

Same with the Slovenians. The research is more developed there because the Slovenians are the most interested people about bitcoin. There are to many people there that are attracted by bitcoin. Maybe not to many common people (I don't know this) but for sure researchers yes. And those people (those who made research) occupy their time and work around and about it. More simple than that cannot be.  :D

If that will be not correct, in the article you have read or in some other place in internet or library must be mentioned the reasons which boost this people to be such friendly with bitcoin. If there are not such the above interpretation remain the most plausible.

Slovenia have less then 2 million population. All this statistic was most possibly made by population. Small nations exceeded expectations in many cases. You will find Slovenians on Top in many other things also.

About ATMs, here are many, also many aware of Bitcoin even Government take it serious. Thing is because of strange denationalization 30 years ago, after last financial crisis most of Slo economy returned back and become country owned ( companies took loans in our biggest bank. That bank was owned by one Belgian bank, and in 2009 when they see they cant manage, Slo goverment invest money in it so most of Slo companies did not bankrupt. This way Country also got biggest shares in all those companies.) That means if companies implement Bitcoins, then basically government is doing it.
Last conference that was i think at end of November 2014 was organized by our biggest telecommunication company, that is after many atempts to be sold still owned by Country of Slovenia.   ;D



Bitstamp is not doing much to popularize Bitcoin in Slovenia, but Owners got into Top100 wealthiest Slovenians i think 2 years ago, and they got some media attention. Some people realized then, that with building infrastructure around Bitcoin you can make good business.
