Probably a random Humble Bundle Key.

Maybe he just want to prevent fraud while he's away. Nothing perfect on system, so anything can happen. Better to shut it down momentarily right?

I remember there was a site to buy steam giftcards directly, you just bought them by using your personal BTC address, not even Bitpay needed. I forgot the URL.

if seller is scamper they will come from stolen credit cards money and steam will bust the buyer.

if they are legit they can buy it with conventional ways like credit card or paypal or etc and i think steam has some discounts like summer sale and things like that which makes them super cheap to buy.

It used to be an automated system, but that required the operator to run a steam client on the server IIRC. The client apparently was hacked in the past and thus the homepage is now just an interface to interact with a person. If there is no person, the site is not operational. At least thats my understanding of it. Martok88 could probably tell us more about that.

Dont know sorry, Martok88 was last online on steam 6 days ago, on their profile it says "ON VACATION - until July 26". If you cant find an alternative they should be back soon.

If you like indy games you should give one finger death punch a try. IIRC it wasnt expensive, but loads of fun. I think its somewhat known though.

There is quite an informative article on Polygon (http://www.polygon.com/2015/2/9/8006693/the-truth-behind-those-mysteriously-cheap-gray-market-game-codes) about possible origins of the keys third party merchants like Kinguin or G2A are selling.

Yep, gmg is really nice and they almost always have a 20%+ off voucher on top of their already competitive deal prices.

It's nice to see that they added Bitpay as an option, but i honestly have to ask ; is it worth risking your money for a "random" steam key?
And on top of that there's no proof that would ensure that the keys are indeed random; they could just be a bunch of low value items ..
You said you wanted to buy a game, so this could not have helped you out. (but some of the above mentioned sites just might tho)

cheers

Most of the time you'll get games you don't want to play. It's a mix of low value items they can pick up during a sale and a few copies of actually good games.
