I wonder If somthing bad happend to bitcoin what cryptocurrency will you use ? is there any good cryptocurrencies out there ? and you are planning to use ? or are you waiting for a new crypto ?

If something bad happen to Bitcoin I will use Litecoin which is one of the oldest and popular cryptocurrency in the Internet. I Hmm.. I should really buy some Litecoin next month when I receive Bitcoin from BitcoinRush campaign.

The exact same or worse fights would happen with whatever crypto took over. All the others have the luxury of being niche or totally irrelevant so the pressure's off. BTC is taking the heavy hits because it actually counts at present.

Nothing Happened to Bitcoin. But if any thing bad happen, its may be Doge Coin, Because there is stronger community backup for this Coin.

I'd just go back to USD or EU. If Bitcoin can't make it nothing will. The general population will just turn off to cryptocurrency.

As long as we have one node and miner  running on core then the block-chain lives on!  This is what i see happening:


1. XT Is out everyone!! Herpa Derp! 75% lets jump on the Gav coin (peace be up on his name)
2. Two chains live on for a while, with core having much less hashing power. (potential for double spends, whatevs.. wait for 20 confirmations for expensive shit)
3. After a little while all the schmuck's who jumped on Shitcoin-xt start to see signs of even more centralization, black/white listing and other types of fuckary
4. Smart ones panic and sell, and dumb ones get stuck holding a bag of Shitcoin-xts   
5. True BTC gets the nodes/hashing power back
6. we all live on happily ever after without mike and gavin (peace be up on his name) and they can go hang out with magical tux.

even if xt seems a winner at one point, i think core will win in the end. i think there can't be any other way, no alt pretending to be btc is going to become btc, thats insanity.

there's always going to be users who never accept xt as bitcoin, they may not be the most vocal but there'll always be a good stab of purists.

Completely agree. It might not win in the first place but you're right even if it does win it will only be for a short while and people who choose it will bounce back to the original Bitcoin because there is and always will be one bitcoin and no altcoin can take it's place.

To answer your question OP, whatever happens with bitcoin I will always support only one cryptocurrency, which is Bitcoin.

id look into litecoin and then maybe even doge coin :) but the price of btc would have to drop hideously for me to justify switching coins :)

If the best crypto-currency is unable to survive, then how the others are going to do us any good? Death of Bitcoin will be the death of all crypto, period. Without Bitcoin, the crypto-currency payment method will be obsolete.

Something bad= Bitcoin will fail? Depends on the reason of failure I guess. But is it because the community fights each other so much and it would end a kind of online battle I believe that would be the end for cryptos as we know it now reach mass adoption.
Centralized solutions would take it over and nothing would have changed.

I cannot see bitcoin disappearing from the map,there is just too much invested in it at this stage.

It might go through some changes but that is to be expected as it adapts to changing circumstances.

If I had to choose an alternative it would have to be Litecoin. I currently have Litecoin but not that much, about 15% in value of what I have in bitcoin. Will be buying a bit more to bring this up to around 40% over the next month or two.

if anyhow bitcoin crashed or extint then I will go for the other altcoins.that's the alternative way where I can earn money and then all the system or traders will start accepting any other altcoin so that time we can see any new altcoin beciming popular and rising

If bitcoin were to fail, you would surely have to go POS like NXT peercoin or even Ethereum if it ever gets off the ground

I think at this moment in time 'failure' will be related to its trust being destroyed, not anything technical. You can have the greatest tech ever but if it doesn't attract the trust and faith of people then it'll forever remain on one hard drive.

Nothing bad will happen to bitcoin. But if I will use the substitute of bitcoin in the market. Which will have the better share in the market, which will have the better price in us dollars or euro compare to other coins that will be the coin I will use.

If something happened to bitcoin so bad that u can't use it anymore, i wouldn't touch other crypto even with an isolated stick.
You need to understand that loosing faith and security in bitcoin means that every crypto is going to be abandoned, since they are all created on
bitcoin's image. But regardless of that, even in that scenario, i would still collect as many bitcoins as i could, since it has become a sort of habbit of doing so :)

It is true this. Every coin is something like a clone of bitcoin. Not a case every coin is connected with price with bitcoin and not with fiat money (with very low difference). But this doesn't know that is bitcoin have some stupid things and will be destroyed or destructed all then coins will have the same destiny. This maybe may be the occasion for them to be in appearance.

But I fear if Bitcoin doesn't make it, it's replacement will be a Jp Morgan or bank of america block chain. New world banker types won't just try to take Bitcoin, they want it all.

Unobtanium, no doubt. Very small and clean chain due to low numbers (not even 1GB after 2 years running), secure network and 3 minute blocks does three times or more what btc does in tps - and faster - and less inflationary. I'm asking myself since ages why people don't switch to it and instead go through the pain with the bitcoin halving and high inflation. It's basically a faster bitcoin with lower max coins and less inflation. Unobtanium is Bitcoin on steroids. Also miners would need to go somewhere with their hardware and Uno is second strongest sha-network after btc.

Alternative Primecoin runs like clockwork. Fast, reliable, very good coin to sink money into. Never hardforked to my knowledge. Backed by botnet power - these lights don't go out.

Both coins huge unrealized potential imo - and i have looked at a lot of coins, man. All the rest is fucking crap for being a store of value (which is, i think one of the main purposes of a currency).

Also people have to go somewhere immediately in case btc fails, not in 2 or 3 years. We don't have time to wait for promises or new coins. We have to take what's on the market now when btc fails. I think the crypto-landscape could be much more interesting again for speculators after a bitcoin fail. Overall marketcap probably will drop to the floor for a little while but later we'll see healthy competition and good pumps i'm sure.

Altcoins need to step up their game.

If you mean bitcoin will lost its value, then I dont want to use any cryptocurrency again, since I think bitcoin is the strongest cryptocurrency. But if you mean bitcoin will be changed to new cryptocurrency which it is better and stronger, then I will prefer to use the new one.

Litecoin. Is fast and quite established, which shows that there is some interest in it. And like the name  :)

If bitcoin get lowered,I will try to switch for another stable altcoin coin Like Litecoin or Stellar for example.

Unless it is very obvious that there would be a better crypto-candidate, should Bitcoin fail I would be OUT.  At least for a while.

On some of the other threads (in "Economics") there is talk of better coins coming.  We'll see.

Maybe enough's been learnt to come up with a coin that's ready to go for any eventual possibility straight out of the box. The more beatings BTC takes the more others can pick up from it.

If something happened to bitcoin. I think the 2nd option would be litecoin.

But I doubt we would get many new users. If the best and oldest coin can't live then that sets a bad example for the other coins.

Community and pedigree is what BTC has. That's borderline impossible to import or replicate but perhaps if enough people migrated and fresh blood came on board it might work. It's 50/50 whether people might regard it as a new dawn or the start of another failure though.

But what if one day we have another "Big debate" like the one we currently are having?

I was talking about moving to a new coin. Bitcoin is kind of making it up as it goes along. If a new coin were to take over it would have to demonstrate there were no future stumbling blocks. No one wants a repeat of this shit.

There will be many cryptocurrency subjects in some universities on this world, so I guess the graduated people from there would make a better coin someday or atleast they will try to innovate bitcoin in future. Just my guess.

Monero without a doubt, for the privacy aspect, and automatic block size adjustment as features that are already better than bitcoin.

There is so much development going on in the Monero sphere that I don't think any other alt comes close.

It's the only other crypto that I own right now. I don't have to wait for the end of the world in bitcoin to invest/hedge in another crypto.
 

If Bitcoin disappeared my first alternative choice would be Litecoin. But that preference is driven by choosing the next most valuable option. If Doge coin becomes more valuable than Litecoin, Dogecoin would be my choice.

The coin that has the greatest value will always prevail.

Bitcoin is a better cryptocurrency than Litecoin and Dogecoin, so if something bad happens to bitcoin, then litecoin, dogecoin, and any cryptocurrency else could get into the same situation sooner or later imo.

I think that if Bitcoin doesn't succeed, any POW coin would be out of my mind to switch to. Why? Well it seems to me that POW coins get centralized much easier.

If Bitcoin was to go down, I would like if everyone turned to the POS. I mean, rafical change will be needed. Out of all the POS, my vote goes for NXT. Their hardworking community deserves the chance. Also they are the only one that keep delivering all the promised features. I do own some NXT, so I might be biased.

There's the issue of a tiny amount of people being in control of the supply of POS coins. Some have done a better job than others but a properly developed POW coin democratises it a bit. Having said that I don't think BTC qualifies for that either.

If bitcoin dooms, I won't be trusting any other crypto currency again. Bitcoin has been the best for me and I trust it till it remains. After it, I'll only invest in Forex and Stock Market. Other Altcoins aren't trustworthy to attain the success bitcoin has acheived.

Yes, this is the biggest issue with the POS. But nothing is perfect. And with a wide usage, this problem would go away. You will never have a good enough distribution. Even if you make a coin and you distribute it to the 1 million people today, who is to say that in 10 years, the whole planet wouldn't cry how the distribution is bad since there is over 7 or 8 billion people in existence.

Every system will have the drawbacks, we need to find the most sustainable!

My friend, then you will miss out a big time. Blockchain technology is the future, in this form or in the other. If Bitcoin fails, there will be a better successor. We have started the things and there is no coming back. The blockchain is taking over.

I hope it will be Bitcoin though!

Frankly, if Bitcoin failed due to inability to reach consensus over something as trivial as max block size, then it would show that the entire concept of decentralised cryptocurrencies is a joke. Every crypto will face similar problems sooner or later, and it could  also fail, unless it's centralised or have only one influential dev.

On subject, apart from BTC I use/own doge, monero, clams and ethereum so I'd probably stick to these.

Surprised it took so long to see Monero mentioned. If something "bad" happens to bitcoin it will likely be due to government taking advantage of the transparent and non-fungible nature of bitcoin to attack or co-opt it. In this scenario, Monero is the obvious choice as it would be resilient against such attacks.

Monero but for a different reason. The biggest threat to Bitcoin right now is the XT vs Core fight over the blocksize limit. This is a direct result of a fixed blocksize limit baked into the protocol that requires a hard fork to change. Monero does not have this problem since 1) It uses an adaptive blocksize limit and 2) It has a small perpetual emission that ensures the viability of the adaptive blocksize limit.

This is exactly how I feel about the current debate. That's why I am pretty confident that we will over become the current problems and exit stronger out of this mess.

We might see price decreases as a result of the current block size debate, but this should also be just temporary!

The perfect coin that probably we should be using instead of Bitcoin anyway is Vanila Coin. New code, sub second transfer, solved double spend so no need to wait for confirmations, soon to be anonomous. If there is a quicker, safer, better coin I would love to hear about it.

it depends on your definition of something bad that can happen?
if you mean the rises and falls of price, then it is nothing bad at all. so i don't see any reason why i should change.
but if bitcoin were to be useless and without any value or in other words if it dies i would never consider any other cryptocurrency . i would cut my losses and leave crypto world behind me.

16% of the words are misspelled in the first sentence, then it looks like things started improving for you. Something already bad has happened to bitcoin and many more bad things will probably happen also. Bad things happened early to Microsoft and Facebook, but they're still happily kicking.

I would say there's no reason to wait before exploring other currencies. Goldcoin (GLD) probably has the most 'Satoshi like' developer. So I would have to recommend GLD as my favorite alternative at the moment. There are lots of others flying under the radar too, you just have to do some digging to uncover the gems.

I would definitely go for litecoin.
It is long established with a reasonably big market caqp.

Actually, I'd head for the proverbial storm cellar and wait out the wrath wreaked on all cryptocurrencies. As the trader boyz rediscovered in the '08-'09 crisis: "In a bear market, all correlations go to one." I.e.: in a ----storm, every vehicle gets hit with a lot of ----.

And then, I'd poke my head out and survey the wreckage. Any alt that survives that "Mother of All Stress Tests," I'd consider buying & using. To be honest, my first look-over candidates would be NXT and HZ. DOGE would likely pull through: their community is big & very resilient.

Nothing lasts forever.

I am already using Guldencoin and Digibyte more than I am using Bitcoin for purchases.
