It won't be unethical (encouraging violence, etc) but I feel the points I plan to list in it will definitely make me a lot of enemies.
How hard would it be to protect my identity from anyone finding out who I am? I know domains always have a $10/year option for privatizing your registration information but is there any other protection I should think about having? Always use the $10/year privacy service, then everyone cannot see you've left false information. You should not use false whois info because whoever's against your cause or simply has malicious intentions could target you more easily. Unless of course you're willing to use .gr, where no information about owners are disclosed. I think that must be the only country tld doing this. Rates for an anonymous site are pretty expensive. 40 EUR for a dot com domain 30 EUR for shared-linux server per month! No DDOS protectoin and only 1 SQL database. Yikes! There are several websites which allow to register domains and get hosting packages without revealing any of your personal informations. The 3rd one is nice, but unfortunately it doesn't accept BTC ( unlike the other two ) . So I suggest you to use the 2nd one. It is very reliable and it's very good if you want to run a blog.
