Title: You are banned from using this forum!
Post by: Krunox on September 20, 2015, 12:58:47 PM
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
So, few weeks ago on 29th of August, my account password was changed when I was asleep.
https://i.imgur.com/HhNRK9D.png

When I woke up in the morning, around 5 a.m.-ish, I noticed that my account has been logged out when I visit BitcoinTalk.
So, I tried to login back into my account, but the system says my password is incorrect. Then, I tried to reset my password via email, but the system says something like incorrect email(IIRC).

So, my last hope is to reset my password via secret question. Password successfully changed via secret question, but now my account has been banned or locked.

If you doubt about it, search for my username in the Security Log (https://bitcointalk.org/seclog.php). You can see that my account password was changed twice. The first one is "password changed", which was not done by me and he second time was reset via secret question, which was done by myself.

Oh, sorry, I almost forgot to mention about this... my username is krunox123 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=96502).

I can sign an old bitcoin address to prove that krunox123 is my account.

Here is the unedited post where I posted that address: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=150753.msg1890880#msg1890880

I already sent an email to the email address provided in the ban message, and two private messages on 30th of August and 8th of September to theymos and BadBear.
Until today, no response from either of them. That's why I make this thread.

I guess you're going to have to message theymos again. He's a busy man, but should eventually get around to sorting it out.

Or unless he sees this post.

Been also in that position before. Badbear responded to my mail when I openned a thread about the same problem before. Maybe try to contact badbear in the forum I don't know if it will help badbear to notice your problem. Give another week tho. Maybe they are just busy .

I'd like to do so, but I will wait for another week before I send him another private message.
...and I hope he sees my post, so I do not need to do so. :)

It has been 22 days since the first private message sent and 13 days since the second private message sent.

As the krunox123 account is used by you and your sister, it is possible that she has changed the password so that you spend less time on BitcoinTalk and more on your studies. So, before bothering theymos and BadBear, you need to confirm with your sister about it.

Sure.

One thing i don't get; you talk about stolen account while you make thread titled "You are banned from using this forum!"
Were you banned or not ?! If yes, then provide reason why if it's stated.

Yes. My account was stolen while I was sleeping, but I managed to reset the password via secret question as soon as I realized I couldn't reset my password via email.
Password successfully changed via secret question, but now my account is banned/locked. I'm not sure why though.

I named this thread "You are banned from using this forum!" because that is part of the ban message.

Just curious, do you have an idea how this "hacker" managed to change your account details?

If the hacker had a keylogger or a RAT on his computer, he could have easily stolen the password and changed it later.

OP, have you checked your computer for viruses?

That is a new security thing that theymos implemented since the site was hacked a few months ago. It automatically locks the account if the password is reset through the security question. Technically your account is locked, not banned.

I've used the same password with my Bitcointalk account on several website. :-[

Yes, but I don't think it's because of virus because I did virus scan and my antivirus says my computer is clean.

If I reset my password via secret question, my account will be locked? I did not know that. :o

Have you found which sites were compromised? Maybe some site had a leak and that password was used to guess on a bunch of your other stuff and eventually led to bitcointalk.

Yeah, theymos said that he was doing that because the hash on the secret question answers weren't very strong so they could easily be bruteforced and people would have their accounts compromised.

Yeah, theymos said that he was doing that because the hash on the secret question answers weren't very strong so they could easily be bruteforced and people would have their accounts compromised.
So, my account will be locked and I need to make this thread every time I reset my password via secret question?

You need to PM theymos or badbear or email the address given to you in order to recover the account. Basically just don't use the secret question option. Instead use the email recovery.

I've do so as stated in OP, but no response from either of them. I cannot reset the password via email, that's why I reset my password via secret question.

If you did what message asked you, and with this thread, it should be enough to get their attention, just be patient as they are always busy.
In the meantime, figure out how the attacker got your details in the first place, otherwise you'll be making this same thread in a week - if you got infected, the attacker will just take the details again..

It should be you're allowed in Meta section that's the rules, if you break the rules when you post in out from Meta section it will be bad for your account or could say you'll get Ban evasion and that can be get Perma Ban

What you mean by "bad for my account"?
The unofficial list of official Bitcointalk rules didn't state anything about permanent ban for ban evasion.

Most likely my appeal will be ignored if I start posting outside of Meta section.

I thought you are banned because of a security issue not because you broke any rules. I doubt the ban evasion rule is applicable in your case.

Well if we consider a ban a typical act to make sure users follow the rules and the ban evasion rule one that was set in place to make sure you cant just create a new account and continue to violate the rules or get away with it, I dont think it should be applied in your case. Im not sure though and by the time an admin replies to this question your account is probably restored anyway, but it might be something that should be answered for the future regardless.

Keep in mind that the security based ban is pretty new and we have no precendence for this.

If your account was locked merely as a security measure then it probably wont count as ban-evading.

My account are not banned permanently, but were locked because the password of my account was reset via secret question.

I thought you will only be banned permanently(for insubstantial posts) if admin/mod will banned you for the third time because of insubstantial posts, and I've only been banned once for insubstantial posts which was a year ago, IIRC.

I actually know why. The account is getting farmed. Look at the post history. They make one post ~every 14 days to get as much potential activity as possible.

But, back to the topic. IMHO you have provided all the info you can and I have seen accounts get gestored with less. Unless there is an issue I dont know about I think its only a matter of time. I would suggest - as I might have already upthread - that you write BadBear and theymos a PM every 2-4 days to remind them about the issue and lock the thread. Bumping the thread here will only attract more like the above, but not increase the chance that the admins have time to take action. You can also unlock the thread later if you think there is more to discuss.

Lol. I thought "farmer" only exist in real life and in game, but I am wrong. ::)

It has been more than 30 days and no action taken by them admins yet. Like you said, it's only a matter of time and I'm pretty sure my account will be unlocked sooner or later.
I'd like to send theymos and BadBear a private message to remind them of my issue every 2-4 days as suggested by you, but my schedule is so tight that it makes me unable to do so.
I think I will lock this thread and will only open it when necessary such as when I want to make a BUMP message in this thread. :)

Many thanks for the advices, shorena.

Lets not repeat what already was discussed.

Its a security ban, not a violation of the rules ban. As such OP can use a different account without evading the ban.

The only thing I should do right now is to remind theymos and BadBear every few days by sending private messages to them, until they noticed it.
If I create a new account, it will not count as ban evasion because I did not violate any forum rules.

And yes, that is my only option. :(

Thank you for the free BUMP, though.

Lets not repeat what already was discussed.

Its a security ban, not a violation of the rules ban. As such OP can use a different account without evading the ban.

Thank you for clarifying, again.

If my account were already unlocked, I won't post BUMP message in this appeal anymore. :-\

Hey, I really appreciate the BUMP message.
I have been very busy lately and I am not able to always BUMP my(this) appeal thread.

How long you have been waiting for your account to be unlocked by theymos or BadBear?
It has been more than 2 months for me.

I will wait even though it will took theymos or BadBear many months(or years?) before my account is unlocked.
But I really hope my account will be unlocked before Christmas this year. :P

Guys Im devastated. I have been a member of this forum for 2 years. I have contributed over 2500+ posts of quality content. Ive helped more new users than I can count. Im highly respected in the community and WAS a proud hero member. In the two years ive been on this forum, ive NEVER had a problem, not 1. A couple of months ago I released my first coin, fly coin. Things were going great, so great that I began to look for an additional dev. So I posted a few messages in the same place I ALWAYS post for everything, in the altcoin announcements. Almost all of my 2500 posts are in there. Anyway BAM, I get banned! My jaw almost hit the floor. I thought for sure this was a mistake. I didnt threaten anyone, I didnt advertise, I wasnt vulgar. It was a very simple posts that said "hey guys, things are well with my coin, and Im looking to add another dev, if anyone has talent PM me". Thats pretty much it. It took me a while to read the rules and discover this was "off topic". Now whats concerning is there is no date on the ban. If I made a mistake and its a 10 day ban, then Ill take my punishment. Just respond and tell me. Ive reached out to badbear and theymos. Its been 6 days and no response. Im a good member of the community, and this was a simple mistake. I was very apologetic in my email to theymos and badbear. Neither has responded. Can I really get my hero account banned forever for accidentally posting in the wrong thread!?!?!? I cant even wrap my mind around that. Theymos if your reading this, please sir, lift the ban on Vegasguy, or atleast repsond and tell me how long the ban is. This was a simple mistake, that I can assure you will NEVER happen again. My sincere apologies.

Vegasguy
You can't post in sections other than meta while being banned, when exactly were you banned?
P.S: Make a new topic in meta.

This happened for me exactly you described above ............ But unfortunately i haven't secret question for resting ................ we are not alone ............. others have same problem ...........

See this :

And this

Seems there is a technical problem or admins did this intentionally ............ They don't like us for some reasons  :-X..............

It has been 63 days (or 9 weeks) since I post this thread and surprisingly theymos or BadBear is yet to noticed it.
To be honest, I am proud of myself too. :P

And I still cannot believe that this new account is already a Jr. Member.

Have you been sending them weekly PMs and Emails?

Have you been sending them weekly PMs and Emails?
I have send quite a lot (only 10 though :P) of private messages to theymos and BadBear to date.
And some to the email address provided, and I'm not sure if it is only me or what because after I send the signed message it cannot be verified.

Is it a good idea if I send a private message and an email once every two days to theymos and/or BadBear?

You should send them more often. What do you mean that the signed message cannot be verified after you send it?

Sorry, but I do not know the exact word to describe it... Perhaps I can send a signed message to your email and you can check it for yourself?

Ah. I see. The problem is that your email is putting line breaks in places where it shouldn't. It probably has to do with screen width or something on the server that reads multiline text as actually having line breaks when it really doesn't. If you remove those line breaks, then it verifies.

FYI, the cause of this problem are not related with the screen width or something on the server that reads multi-line text like what you said (bolded text) in the quoted message.
They(Google) are just following the internet standard for plain text messages (RFC 2822 (https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2822#section-2.1.1)) recommended and promoted by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) where maximum characters per line in the source of email messages should be no more than 78.
