How hard it is to explain to someone what's bitcoin? In your country there are many stores where you can use the bitcoins? Do your friends related to bitcoin? Do they know what exactly is a bitcoin? Title: Re: The bitcoin in daily life Post by: Amph on October 16, 2015, 07:29:24 AM yeah to buy game only for now, i'm waiting for something like open bazar, to try to buy more expensive thing
depend who is this "someone", to a nerd would be pretty easy i preusme there are some, still on growing, long way to go, i believe there will be another huge increase on the next big bubble Title: Re: The bitcoin in daily life Post by: 1Referee on October 16, 2015, 08:21:21 AM Here in my country there are several places where you can spend your coins, but the total amount is still way too low. You can buy fastfood with Bitcoin, buy beer in a pub, rent a bike with Bitcoin. That's it about it. I am more interested in seeing a supermarket nearby willing to accept Bitcoin.
Title: Re: The bitcoin in daily life Post by: Lauda on October 16, 2015, 08:37:31 AM Your thread consists of questions that are not that related. I've never used Bitcoin as a payment method in person but I did buy it once via a Bitcoin bon. Explaining Bitcoin is really hard at times. You have to use a good analogy so that some can actually understand rather than just pretending to.
Bitcoin still needs more adoption before people can use it in their daily routine. Title: Re: The bitcoin in daily life Post by: John_Dave on October 16, 2015, 09:33:48 AM My friends have no idea what bitcoin is!
I want to exchange a few of mine bitcoins for dollars. Looking for a good platform to do this now Title: Re: The bitcoin in daily life Post by: OmegaStarScream on October 16, 2015, 09:44:40 AM Have you guys ever used bitcoins like a payment method? How hard it is to explain to someone what's bitcoin? In your country there are many stores where you can use the bitcoins? Do your friends related to bitcoin? Do they know what exactly is a bitcoin? I prefer to HODL , I never buy stuff usually but I use it from time to time to buy digital goods (mostly Steam games) . Bitcoin may sounds simple to us with time but I personally find it hard to explain it to someone . for what comes to my country , my country is so big however we have like 0 zero stores that accepts bitcoin so can't do much with them unless I use them online as I said above . I have one that knows what BTC is , he founds is annoying honestly when I start to explain (but as I said I guess I'm just not good at explaining to people what BTC is ) but well .. it's his choice Title: Re: The bitcoin in daily life Post by: Nahl on October 16, 2015, 09:49:44 AM Have you guys ever used bitcoins like a payment method? almost every day i use bitcoin for a payment method and mostly for recharge my phone number but unfortunately not many stores accept bitcoin for their payment method in my countryHow hard it is to explain to someone what's bitcoin? In your country there are many stores where you can use the bitcoins? Do your friends related to bitcoin? Do they know what exactly is a bitcoin? No, I never used bitcoin to buy something. Except the using of it in the case of investment to earn others. It was paid with it for clod mining only. One time with success and another with loss. It is not hard to explain to someone about bitcoin. It is enough that the other have the will to hear and in about 15-20 minutes everything is done. In my country there are no store which accept bitcoin. Bitcoin itself is known very few or almost at all. No any of my friends is related with bitcoin. I am the only one. Some of they have some knowledge about bitcoin given by me but not to much. Title: Re: The bitcoin in daily life Post by: --Encrypted-- on October 16, 2015, 10:11:12 AM 1) of course.
2) that depends on who am I talking to. some of my friends understood the basics after I explained it once (their questions are correct), while some just can't grasp it (they ask questions like "so is this mining works like PTC or something"?) 3) unfortunately, no. 4) I don't understand this question. 5) most of them does. most are few in my case, though. Yes, just pay very often online with Bitcoin. Only in Paris you can find more stores, coffee shops, etc, to pay with Bitcoin. It just depends about explaining. If somebody is tech savvy, they get it really fast. There are some people though that can get it even after I explain the 3 times. Like I said, in Paris there are most stores. I don't bother to explain bitcoin to anyone. It is too complicated for most people to grasp or they don't want to be bothered with another method of payment. They are happy with their cash and credit cards. So I say, "Uhmmh, suit yourselves!" Title: Re: The bitcoin in daily life Post by: Kprawn on October 16, 2015, 01:39:08 PM Yes, we have loads of people accepting Bitcoin and we have access to Bitcoin ATM's and vending machines. My local pub also accept Bitcoin and that is the most important merchant. ;)
All my friends and family have Bitcoin and they use it daily, so it's quite widespread around here. I also have friends who receive part of their salary in Bitcoin directly and that is a big plus. I think it's easier in the 1st world, because the infrastructure is in place to offer these services to enable Bitcoin use. ;D Title: Re: The bitcoin in daily life Post by: confirmation120 on October 16, 2015, 01:41:20 PM Have you guys ever used bitcoins like a payment method? Well, the hardest part is not about providing the explanation. It is about convincing them on why we need bitcoin in the first place. Most of them will tell you that since your fiat will get you virtually everything, why do you need to convert to bitcoin in order to purchase the same item. Then you will have to find a way to turn things around and then letting them know that fiat value is shrinking as days go by.

Yes when I bought an account of a game from my friend. It is very hard especially if they will say right away that its fake or scam. Here in the Philippines bitcoin can already be used in many different ways like buying prepaid credits or buying steam wallet code, used as payment for credit card, electric, and water bills. And many more. None of my friends know about bitcoin because they are easy going and not think about what will happen to their future. Moreover, to explain it in a third world country, is pretty much very complicated for a beginner especially the terminology like hashes, algorithm etc. I say it because i need to teach my interested friend a couple of days before he understand the basic Stuff of Bitcoin. And it took him a month or two to fully grasp bitcoin economy. Title: Re: The bitcoin in daily life Post by: chennan on July 04, 2016, 04:37:10 PM It seems kinda pointless some times to find a reason why I should influence someone to accept Bitcoins IRL situations to purchase something.
Like the whole point of Bitcoins is supposed to be a currency where you can pay someone money without having to reveal your identity or who you are as a person; and then when you go up to them and try to explain why you want to pay this person with a currency that is supposed to help protect your right to privacy by remaining pseudonymous, I can just see them saying "well, I mean, I'm looking at you right now... why do you want to remain pseudonymous?" Then from there it gets into the real sticky debate that well it can be viewed as a store of wealth, then you have to explain the limited nature of bitcoins to only 21 Million coins, blah blah blah... TLDR; I feel I could persuade someone who runs a business online whom I don't know personally to accept bitcoin a lot easier than a buddy of mine whom I know in real life, because of the nature of bitcoin and what purpose bitcoin serves on the internet. First of all. yes i have used BTC several times as a payment method to buy products from the internet. How hard it is to explain to someone what's bitcoin? In your country there are many stores where you can use the bitcoins? Do your friends related to bitcoin? Do they know what exactly is a bitcoin? Depends on the person. At first, i was having a hard time explaining it, but after some time i think i found the "right" and simple words to make my friends understand what it is about. I don't know anything about a store receiving BTC in Greece. there must be some. but until now i have no idea unfortunately. But even if they did accept btc, the products in Greece are more expensive sometimes. For example i bought my phone from China because it costed around 100+ euro in Greece. At last but not least only around 2 or 3 know exactly what's a bitcoin because they are internet geeks just like me. the others just have a general idea. Well i set up a temporary minecraft server that payed players for mining and building blocks. How hard it is to explain to someone what's bitcoin? Just tell them they get to buy stuff online without using credit cards or paypal so they can help you out. In your country there are many stores where you can use the bitcoins? In your country there are many stores where you can use the bitcoins? Do your friends related to bitcoin? Do they know what exactly is a bitcoin? Hi Huobi, your topic seems to be very short but the contents are very long. But it is ok I will answer your questions one after another. First, Have I ever used bitcoins like a payment method? Yes for so many times, I used it to have my prepaid load on my phone, second, I used it in paying my utility bills. How hard it is to explain to someone whats bitcoin? It is not hard at all, just give him some youtube or google links related to bitcoin. Third, in my country, there is no stores yet which I know that use bitcoins. Fourth, my real friends no nothing about bitcoins. Title: Re: The bitcoin in daily life Post by: marcuslong on July 09, 2016, 06:46:17 PM Yes I use bitcoins many times in my daily life . Yes same here, I always make sure that I have money in my bitcoin wallet account because in case of emergency, they will be of great use. Like the example that you said which is using bitcoin for mobile recharges. I can relate to that. Because mobile load is very important to us and if we ran out of load, well no need to worry because our bitcoin wallet is there to help us plus some rebate. What do you mean a bit slow with accepting bitcoins? Is it they don't acknowledge bitcoins as a mode of payment? Or it is they just don't use it very often. Which country do you came from by the way? If the government is not prohibiting the use of bitcoins in your country maybe sooner or later, bitcoin will get its popularity in your country like here in mine. It is just a matter of time. Well in terms of security, I think you are going to lose that argument with your friends, especially if they have heard anything that has been going on with bitcoin lately and can compare that to visa and other payment forms... Debit/credit cards now have chips that are more secure, compared to bitcoin which has the problem of overcoming the block size bloat and miner frustrations due to halving and costs of running a mining company. If I were you I would focus on the fact that there is no governmental agency trying to tax what you are paying, so you can pay someone over the internet tax free.... this is a huge deal when considering large purchases online. ROI is kinda mehhh... I mean, if you make that case, it sounds like you are apart of some kind of internet ponzi scheme. I have Bitcoin debit card and that makes spending Bitcoin much easier. Explain to someone what is Bitcoin isn't that hard if that person has some basic knowlege about internet and virtual world and shows some interest. But the best way to see all advantages of Bitcoion is when you try it by yourself. As said, my everyday expense is done by the btc. I earn in this forum and save the money for almost a month. Bitcoin should be treated as an alternative investment option which can make you rich in future. I do not see the logic in this view whatsoever. So bitcoin is a currency, why does that make it an "investment?" I'm from the UK, but I don't see dollars or euros or roubles as an investment do I? They're currencies, just with different values relative to each other and all used in different areas of the world. I don't see why bitcoins should be any different; of course they are decentralized and as such the value of them relative to other currencies is determined differently, and the digital nature means you can use them globally, but the point still stands that bitcoin is a cryptocurrency FIRST and an "investment" second. As with fiat currencies, just because it is possible to speculate and make a profit off of them, it doesn't make this their primary reason for existing. Title: Re: The bitcoin in daily life Post by: xdrpx on July 29, 2016, 07:34:51 PM Have you guys ever used bitcoins like a payment method?
I've used Bitcoins to purchase one at a computer hardware store, and then many a times online to buy digital software and games from the humblebundle store and steam. I've also purchased several gift cards with it. How hard it is to explain to someone what's bitcoin? I've tried it and trust me it's not hard to explain what Bitcoin is to someone, but it's hard for them to digest the fact that it's a better solution to what banks provide to them like credit card POS terminals. I believe what they see is how it benefits them and how many customers do they get that want to pay in Bitcoins. Also, the price volatility plays a major role, these days Bitcoin's price is quite stable so it's a good point to put forth to people. In your country there are many stores where you can use the bitcoins? Not, at all. All my life I've only been able to find 1 store that accepted Bitcoins and it was a coincidence. I would love to see foot marts accept Bitcoins to purchase daily necessities. Do your friends related to bitcoin? Do they know what exactly is a bitcoin? My friends know about Bitcoins, they own a few as well. But they don't get to spend it much. Title: Re: The bitcoin in daily life Post by: Cereberus on July 29, 2016, 08:40:26 PM It is part of my daily life. I use it or better spend it when I am low on cash its like having your own reserve of money. I try to not touch a lot of this reserve money as I try to keep it there and to grow it as far as I can. The only thing I have bought physically with bitcoin was a graphic card a R9 280x for about 120 USD in bitcoin. The card was used. I also use bitcoin daily as I gamble just a bit like any other bitcoiner here I guess.

But it is like anything used to pay. It is like a credit card bit there is no banks. Miners are the banks computers that is why they are paid. No differance from electric money in the bank or on a atm. Both is a digital number with real life worth. It is easy to understand it. Title: Re: The bitcoin in daily life Post by: hase0278 on July 29, 2016, 10:47:16 PM OP ill answer your questions one by one. I have used bitcoins to pay someone many times since it is easy to send and receive bitcoin. In my opinion, it is hard to explain to someone what is bitcoin and what it can do since when you are explaining many knows it as a criminal money. In my country there are no stores that accepts bitcoin since they don't know it or they branded it as illegal money. My friends know about bitcoin but they don't use it because like others they think it is untrusted or illegal, criminal money.

Have you guys ever used bitcoins like a payment method? I did not use bitcoin yet as payment option because here in UAE, I do not know any shops or store that accept it as payment. How hard it is to explain to someone what's bitcoin? It's hard to explain to someone about bitcoin if the person you explain it to is not into something techie and prefers to use cash as payment method but for others who welcome new ideas and techie then I'm sure it will be easy to explain. In your country there are many stores where you can use the bitcoins? Title: Re: The bitcoin in daily life Post by: torrentheaven on August 27, 2016, 08:18:13 AM bitcoin for me in daily life is really important, i spend a lot of time with it and i make some money from time to time, bitcoin is really great yeah just like me when I'm in a state holiday or return to work at every day. I always took the time to look at some of the forums and get bitcoin and then using bitcoin to buy something. yeah it helps to combat loneliness after work and during holidays Before when I have no idea about bitcoin yet, I used to just watch movies or play games after work but now that I discovered it, I'm in this forum after work reading, learning and earning. I'm glad I learn about it because aside from having extra income,I learned a lot and I'm interested in using bitcoin as one of my source of income by using it in my business someday and hopefully earn a lot from it to cover my expenses that I don't need to have a job anymore. We have the same wish and situation at first i dont know bitcoin until it was introduced to me by a friend and then i got interested on how to earn it. Thats why im here in this forum joining signature campaigns i earn decent maount which adds my extra funds on buying my daily needs. im very thankful to bitcoin. It's true that bitcoin is giving us an opportunity to earn extra money, but at a moment I cannot use it on daily basis to buy anything, every time I need to convert it to fiat first, so I prefer to save them for future. That you can do ", but you also have to wait for all stores accept it all. in my place there are a few stores that already accept bitcoin as payment. But the store only accepts payment for certain products, so not all of the products they sell could be paid with bitcoin. For the Bills, pulse, or things about internet or mobile it's all already there are some who received it. Yeah and at this stage there is no scope for bitcoin to be used in daily life as it cannot be used directly anywhere if you have to spend it then you need to convert it to fiat first. How hard it is to explain to someone what's bitcoin? In your country there are many stores where you can use the bitcoins? Do your friends related to bitcoin? Do they know what exactly is a bitcoin? So far I'm not using it as payment in the billings, But I used it for money transferring, and loading to my mobile. And in my country it is not yet popular. Due to many citizens in my country are 2% believer in bitcoin we had it now. Aside from that none of my friend don't know about in bitcoin, some they heard it but ignored it. I would never ever convert my Bitcoin to fiat trash just to buy at a shop. Buying Bitcoin just to convert it to fiat later is highly irrational behavior. If the shops only accepts fiat, I buy with the fiat at hand. Why waste precious Bitcoin? I only pay with Bitcoin, if the seller accepts native Bitcoin payments - that means without fiat conversion. Fiat conversion is detrimental to Bitcoin adoption, because it anchors Bitcoin value at still born debt money and adds complexity and costs to the payment process. Fiat conversion ruins the easy and seamless way to freely pay with Bitcoin without surveillance or control by third parties. By fiat conversion, unnecessary fees are added and full ownership of one's funds is surrendered to payment providers (and ultimately central banks). Especially for remittances is would be a great leap forward, if people would use direct BTC payments. ya.ya.yo! People who are tech savvy and are interested in innovative technology will never miss the opportunity to get into bitcoins and it takes less time to convince them as they know they will get best benefits in future. It's not that hard to explain bitcoin to people in that way how to use it. There are good and intuitive online wallets and no need to explain verbose technology standing behind bitcoin. so i just show how to get\send\check BTC and describe main benefits and risks compared to fiat. Is your company pays you in bitcoins or you are a full timer in bitcoins as a freelancer? As I have never heard that any company has started to pay their employees in bitcoins yet. When I get up of bed, I usually just go to Facebook and then watch videos on Youtube while sipping a cup of coffee. That consumes an hour of my daily life. Today, instead of wasting my time on social media sites, I spend it in this place. I update the overview of signature campaign table (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.0;topicseen) everyday so I could help other people in this place in return of the benefits that I get in this forum.

Yeah it is hard for us to introduce bitcoin to our friends if they have a closed mind and doesn't want to learn new things about technology. But as we enjoy the essence of bitcoins services let's just keep on using it. Just like me I've been using bitcoin for my daily life and as well as daily transactions and it is really now one of the important thing in my life. I agree with you, its really hard to convince someone to use bitcoin especially on paying bills since they are always using fiat and they know that its the only way to pay bills because they are not aware about bitcoins. If they would know it maybe they would give a try and know the convenience it gives. But it's good also to keep some satoshis on your wallet to wait the BTC rise soon, so you can make some extra profit.
