DOODLE FACT:


The Limited Edition roll #1 did not come with a doodle........ although,  It did come with a hand written and signed  letter of authenticity pertaining to the special situation involved with It ....that is on the back of the thank you doodle card.

Because I  purchased the very first roll, CJ offered to swap out the unnumbered roll with the official numbered roll if I proved I destroyed the unnumbered roll.   

I didn't have the heart to destroy the very first roll ever, of any limited product whether it be numbered or not.  So I discussed this with CJ and it was agreed that I buy the numbered roll and that I would keep them as a First Issue set.. 

Even tho the First roll ever issued is not numbered , Its still the FIRST ROLL, and would have been an atrocity to destroy it, I consider them both the FIRST ROLL AND #1 ROLL of the Limited Edition rolls  and would only sell them as 1.   

PM offers if interested in this 2 roll, FIRST/#1 set.

Well Ive been touch and go on bcttalk the last month but I have to say I love my pennies and here is the sketch Id like to add to this thread:

Ha! I'd forgotten all about the little "was hand-rolled by" note written on matching Kraft paper. We might need to revisit that idea. :)

OK, I've decided to scan and save my doodles before mailing them out, for posterity's (and minerjones') sake. ;D

Here is my most recent doodle as an example of my scanning skills (which equal my doodling skills, in my humble opinion). I likely won't post any other scans to this thread (unless I'm exceptionally proud of my artwork). I'll leave the fun of posting to our customers.

I originally tried to doodle the doge in the middle (not multi-media with print & glue), but I'm an awful artist, so the doge kept coming out looking like Crispin Glover. Finally, I gave up and decided on the multi-media approach. I'm super happy that I'm a quitter, because I love the final result. Necessity and invention, am I right? ;)

It took me 2 days and I went through about 20 pieces of card to get this right.
I am not an artist, and I suck at drawing ;D

I believe there are a few left of the 20 AE (Autograph Edition) Hardcover.  You would have to PM Elianite directly for price and serial numbers available.  He is on 2-3 week vacation though, so you may not get back a quick response from him.

That's not one of my / our (The Bitcoin Penny Company) doodles. I believe Zepher doodled that one. I like how he added the arrows to over-explain the obvious. That's my doodle trademark. ;)

Today, I made a hi-res scan of all 50 of those special Encyclopedia doodles, just in case we ever issue a collection of doodles in e-book format. We can have a small chapter dedicated to this project. ;)

On a similar note, here's a doodle going out to a website customer. My favorite doodle pen (Lamy Safari XF) started running low on my favorite doodle ink (Noodler's Bulletproof Black). Naturally, I felt inclined to address the issue on the front of the card. :)

OK, the move is over, and we're in our new home in Greenville, SC. (Whew! It's been a super busy summer!) My summer travels are over, and I'm ready to settle back into the daily world of BTForums and all of my friends here. :)

And to start things off, here's a doodle I made last week (or was it the week before?) for a customer in Spain. I call it "Tent & Campfire." My scanner was packed and ready for moving, so I was only able to take a quick snapshot with my iPhone. Starting today, I'll be back to scanning all my doodles for a possible future doodle collection project.

Viz, Regarding your "This Doodle Belongs To:" doodle, I've always liked those word-only doodles. It's the ironist in me. (Is ironist -- one who likes irony -- even a word? It is now.)  I also like Mitchell's "Bitcoin Penny™ Postcard" doodle. In fact, I think he should actually post it to me in the US, let me scan it (for a special before and after page in the above-mentioned possible future doodle collection project) with all those colorful Netherland-y postage stamps, then auction it off right here on BTForums. I'd be super happy to win it. :)

Well, five packages went out today, and the Owl Cookie Jar doodle was in one of them. One of the packages was a special doodle for Lauda, and it wasn't the Owl Cookie Jar. That leaves only four packages that it could be inside. It's a short list of names. (Buckrodgers, you're on it.)

So you're planning to create a book about doodles? Any ETA and/or other information (hard cover vs. soft cover)? Hopefully this doesn't turn out like a trash quality item like the soft cover Encyclopedia that was released this year. Take your time with this project. I'll probably be very interested once I know the price, quantity and other specifications.

Actually, I was joking about the book. Please don't get me wrong. I'd absolutely LOVE to print one, and I even started planning the lay-out (in my mind) several months ago. Unfortunately, I can't think of how I might sell enough of them to break even with the publishing costs. :)

I've never published a book (or a collection of doodles), so maybe I'm totally wrong about the perceived publishing costs vs public interest.

Perhaps I'll make it my resolution for the New Year of 2017 to look into this "doodle book" as a viable project. There's got to be a way to make it worth printing. (And I'm always up for suggestions!)

Thank you, minerjones. Since my post above, I've been giving this a bit more thought, and I think that I may just do it. In fact, I'll likely start a new thread dedicated to crowdsourcing ideas about the book, from collectibility (a limited number) to contents (your favorite doodles) --whatever people think might be fun. After all, this should be a fun project for everyone. :)

I don't mind paying a higher price for better quality, please try to make it the highest quality you can, I don't want a book that will give up its beauty in a few years.

I'll definitely try to make this a quality print, and I'll ask for plenty of input from the community to make it so.

However, I'm not sure that a book of silly doodles justifies a museum quality printing. On the other hand, the people get what the people want. If the people want hardback, full color (for the very few colored doodles), glossy pages, and a limited printing of only XX numbered/signed books, then that's what I'll do. (I could even have a doodle tutorial in the back -- "Learn to doodle in 87 easy steps!" LOL)

Well, not so much "colored" as sometimes drawn with blue ink instead of the usual black. Of course, that's solved with a simple asterisk and a footnote stating that the original was drawn in blue ink.

I couldn't print a book of doodles without including my favorite Dogemon doodle, and it can't be printed in black-and-white, so I'll either need to pay a ton extra for all pages to be color, or simply add the Dogemon doodle to the cover (in full color).

Umm...yes. Dogemon on the back cover would solve the problem. Lots of money saved.

I doodled it. (And I'm not the best poet in the world, but I did my best.) MJ and Lauda asked me if I would make a special doodle for our friend Mitchell as part of a special gift package, and I was honored for the opportunity. MJ and Lauda gave me advice/suggestions/guidance about what to draw, so it's really a group effort. I couldn't have doodled it without them. (Thanks, guys!)

This is definitely one of my favorite (and most elaborate) doodles of all.

And a little more FYI:

The original (2015) cards were printed five (5) per sheet (8.5x11") on standard white cardstock, then hand cut on a Dahle 533 Professional Guillotine paper cutter, so many of those first-year THANK YOU doodle cards are a little off, dimension-wise. Some are a bit smaller; some are a bit larger. (However, my personal notes confirm that the intended dimensions of those 2015 doodle cards were exactly 5" x 3.25"...so well done, MJ.)

For the 2016 release, I decided to splurge and have the THANK YOU doodle cards professionally printed as 6" x 4" postcards. (No more measuring and cutting for me!) However, because of the limited size of our padded shipping envelopes (which are just under 4" wide) as well as the smaller of our two standard shipping boxes (which suffers from the same limited width), we were forced to repeat the 2015 hand-cutting process for many of our 2016 shipments. (My personal notes confirm that the intended dimensions of the 2016(B) hand-cut doodle cards were exactly 5.25" x 3.5". Again, well done, MJ.)

As for the "C" vs "Chris w/ smiley" signatures, I really hadn't noticed the signature change, so I have no clue as to when we made the switch, and it's quite likely that we made the switch sometime during 2015 (or 2016) and not exactly between the two releases. (Does that confusing explanation of jumbled words makes sense to anyone?)

MJ has done an OUTSTANDING job of cataloging these Bitcoin Penny™ THANK YOU doodle cards!

Thank you for the kind words, Mitchell. How long it took is a complex answer. The actual doodling didn't take too long. I did have to Google a picture of the Death Star and various fighters, though. (Did you know there were two Death Stars? Yep, surprising what odd info a Google turns up.) But that doodle was a long time in the making. I kept forgetting to start it. LOL It's actually going to TMAN. He won a raffle earlier this year where we donated a professionally framed doodle as one of the prizes. When the doodle was finished being framed, I PMed him to say that it would be shipped soon. He mentioned something about being very excited to see it, because our doodles are "epic." Personally, I felt rather bad, because he may have been expecting a special epic-level raffle doodle, when it was just a normal simple doodle (the kind of minimalist doodle that I prefer) that happened to be professionally framed. I feared he may have raised his hopes too much, so I promised him an "epic" consolation doodle. (Being a true gentleman, he declined my offer of an additional doodle, and he assured me that my raffle doodle would be more than good enough. However, I insisted on making that epic consolation doodle anyway.) So here it is, the "epic" doodle that I promised to TMAN a long, long time ago. ;)

Wow! It's been a long while since I've seen one of those, BG! :) Those brown Kraft paper scribbles went out with our first sales, and I believe only for our Limited Edition Rolls. I don't think we sent similar notes along with our Short Rolls. We may have, but I don't think so. (The Short Rolls were miffman's idea, if I remember correctly. You might ask him if he ever received one with his Short Roll, which was our first one sold.)

Regardless, our simple books show that until we placed the order for our first THANK YOU cards, we had only sold four (4) Limited Edition Rolls and two (2) Short Rolls. So...six (6) of those brown Kraft paper scribbles at the most?

And a recent customer wrote to me saying, "I look forward to having the doodle on my wall. It'll be a subtle hint to my interest in bitcoin and only others in the know will really be aware of its meaning." Toying with the ideas of "subtle hint to my interest in bitcoin" and "only others...will be aware of the meaning," I doodled the following. I suspect that most non-bitcoin enthusiasts will see only a fly rod and reel. We, on the other hand, will immediately notice the BTC symbol in the reel center. ;)

I was reading through thread from the beginning and found this post.

Let the record show that the original secondary market offers for the Doodles started at ~0.04BTC on 18 June, 2016, when bitcoin was trading at $761 according to http://blockchain.info (http://blockchain.info).

All of these doodles should fetch much more these days!

I originally commissioned eleven (11) Copper Doodles -- ten (10) for the 2017 Special Edition Rolls + one (1) extra, just in case. However, I was hopeful that the "just in case" would be unnecessary and that I'd be able to keep the extra Copper Doodle for myself, which is why the doodle is of a straight razor and barber's hone. (Because, as you know, I love my vintage straight razors!)

I'm thinking that the next .999 Copper Doodles will be reserved for our 2018 Special Edition Rolls, but we WILL be releasing a very limited number of special doodles in early August. It's called the Daddy-Daughter Doodle Project. ;D My youngest daughter and I will be co-doodling a few doodles and auctioning them off to raise funds for more art supplies / books / classes. She is CRAZY for all things art! She spends hours per day practicing Anime and drawing all her original characters. She's been doing it for a few years now. Long stories about each character, alternative world's where each character is a little (or a lot) different. Very intricate imagination. She's hoping to be a professional artist (or museum curator; she's still undecided) when she grows up. Plus, she LOVES my doodles, and this project will bring us even closer together. (She's entering high school next year, so she won't have much time for me soon! Gotta take the attention when I can get it. LOL)

The Daddy-Daughter Doodle Project should be pretty cool. Keep an eye out for it. ;)

I've been off the grid for the last few weeks while traveling between SC/NC, NY, and Florida. During my spare time, my daughter and I have been working on our first annual Daddy-Daughter Doodle Project! (It's super fun co-doodling with my daughter!)

We've co-doodled ten (10) new doodles. Her contribution is in blue ink, and my contribution is in my typical black ink. Here's a quick photo of the doodles in progress...

We still have to add the superfluous labels/arrows as well as both signatures on each doodle. Then she'll be coloring the blue-inked parts (her own contributions) with assorted colored pencils. (FUN FACT: These are the only co-doodles I've ever produced, and they will be some of the very few COLOR doodles too!)

After the coloring is complete, we'll both sign the fronts, and I'll add something like "DDDP #1/10" or "DDDP #7/10" as well.

Then we'll be auctioning them with all proceeds going to my daughter for art supplies, art classes, and other miscellaneous art stuffs. (I may even convince her to HODL a little BTC for the future too!)

The Daddy-Daughter Doodle Project auction should be ready in the next day or two, so keep an eye out! ;D

Furious? I suppose that depends on how much you paid for them and/or how much you value the thought of having a genuine BP doodle. In my case, I can draw a genuine BP doodle anytime I wish, so they aren't incredibly valuable to me. However, to collectors (and other people who aren't me), they may have monetary and/or sentimental value. In fact, I seem to recall a few doodles being sold for ~$30 each a while back. Maybe that's changed. I don't know.

EDIT: I do value the doodles from the summer's Daddy-Daughter Doodle Project. I value those very much. ;)

Regarding the doodle book...The truth is that it's probably a quick and easy project. I have enough doodles. (Although, it's not a bad idea to wait until summer when I have a  lot more to sort thru and choose from.) I have a pretty good informal outline for the book too. And I have a secret idea for it that I absolutely LOVE!!! Unfortunately, I do not have the will to make the doodle book project a reality. You see, I simply can't get over the feeling that releasing a book of my own doodles is just...arrogant. They're silly little doodles meant for momentary amusement, not real art. I'm in NO WAY a legitimate artist, and to release a book of my doodles feels like I'm pretending to be a real artist. It's hard to explain, but it feels unwarrantedly vain and self-absorbed to release a doodle book.

OTOH... Maybe I just need to print the darn thing and stop worrying about if my doodles are art-worthy enough. :-\

TBH i don't know a lot about that but IMO you should just chill about it! i do know that you do not make that as an art but started as a fun little thing which we all have come to love. I just think, it would be cool to have a little book of those doodles like a part of my bitcoinpenny collection and how it will depict the history with little intro on how and why you started the doodles :)

I am a little confused here though, are you gonna make the book with new doodles or put all the old ones ever made? I was thinking the later one :)

Good question! I'm not very creative, so I used to just sit in my living room or kitchen and look around for something to draw. That means there are quite likely to be more than one doodle of a coffee mug, wine glass, house plant, kettle, etc. Nowadays, I spend my doodle time at the local Barnes & Noble. I'll grab a few magazines and flip thru them while sipping on a venti chai latte (no water). Every page or so, I'll doodle something from that page. It's not always the exact something, but it's a good starting point for doodle inspiration.

EDIT: In reply to your question in another thread about the "C" signature on the doodles... That's my doodle signature. There's only one other person at TBPCo who's an authorized doodler, and that's my daughter. Last summer, she and I co-illustrated a series of 10 colored doodles for our 1st Annual Daddy-Daughter Doodle Project. Those 10 doodles went to auction, and the proceeds went to my daughter for HODLing and various art supplies. (She's big on drawing and anime.) We're already planning this summer's DDDP2, so be on the lookout in early August. ;)

When is The Bitcoin Penny TOP SECRET #2 set of hubcaps for our cars going to be underway?

LOL The US Foundry (who made the original BP Manhole Cover Physical Bitcoins) has a lot on its plate right now for summer production, so they're not taking new orders for several weeks more. Just to cover all our options, we'll be talking to two other foundries for the 2018 Mini Manhole Covers. (Obviously, we'd prefer to stick with the original foundry, but we'll see how it goes.) Worst case? We have to postpone the project until the end of 2018. In the meantime, we have a fun project in the works which should be ready in another 3 weeks or so. Stay tuned. ;)

That particular doodle was a fun idea. I wanted to test shoot a Sig Sauer P365 XL. Plus, I needed to make a few doodles that morning. So...two birds (or six flies, as it were), one interesting stone. Regarding my doodles, I do like to change things up a bit, like when I made that multi-medium DOGE / Pokemon doodle or the time I made the Solar Eclipse Viewer 2-card set doodles. (I think MJ has those.) I also made a Star Wars doodle once that I thought was pretty dope. Doodles are fun, but I like oddities too. So every so often, I do something strange with the doodles. This was one of those times. ;D

I've been really focused on our new digital NFDoodle projects for the past few weeks, so physical paper doodles are taking a short sabbatical. In the meantime, we're dropping our next round of NFDoodles on OpenSea tomorrow morning. This new series is called NFSpoons, and it's an abstract monochromatic series of doodles. (One of my few abstract doodles ever.) As with our last few NFDoodles releases, we'll mint 10 identical copies of the White Edition plus an additional 5 unique 1/1 NFDs in different color schemes—gray, blue, red, green, and a more colorful rainbow.

FUN FACT: I am absolutely mesmerized by this series of abstract doodles, and I have no clue why, because I'm not a real artist, and this series is so overly simplistic. Still, this series enchants me for some strange reason. I've stared at each one for hours. (Literally!)

Therefore, in full disclosure, I may decide to keep one for myself, at least for a little while. ;D
