Title: Happy Birthday Bitcoin
Post by: CoinLearn on October 31, 2015, 07:54:00 PM
Seven years ago today, Satoshi Nakamoto released his famous whitepaper to the world, inviting users on the leading cryptography mailing list to work on it, officially marking the start of Bitcoin's existence. I still think, every newbie must read the whitepaper at least once...

I know of a dude  ;) who laboriously penned Satoshi Nakamoto's white paper on Twitter for easy readability in exactly 256 tweets (think SHA-256): https://twitter.com/FirstWhitePaper

The dude told me to pass it on that anybody who follows said account would be followed in kind.

Ha, that's really nice ;D Makes me remember that twitter account that posted a movie frame by frame

Well the little baby has been registered to 1st class :).
7 years are really long but it seems that it is too little in the technology.
I see myself that i joined late bitcoin but still good, hope bitcoin will be implemented almost everywhere.

...

Was bitcoin really launched on October 31?, someone could dress a bitcoin costume and celebrate two festivities at once ;D.

Yes, I just re-read Satoshi's Bitcoin white paper announcement, the fact it was announced on Halloween had escaped me until now. Now I'll never forget the exact date Bitcoin was announced. He must have deliberately chosen a memorable day that half the world parties on.

Ok, here (http://www.paidbooks.com/book/bitcoin-white-paper-satoshi-nakamoto) is an alternative link to read the Bitcoin White Paper, you can also earn a few satoshis while reading (no, it has no referral link inside. Adblock highly recommended since their ads tend to get annoying).

That is an interesting website, getting paid to read.

I hope bitcoin/blockchain technology will last for hundreds of years from now.

Happy birthday to Bitcoin. Seven years from the white paper, but anyone knows which day was mined the genesis block? And if anyone knows how many bitcoins were mined till today?

The official copy (and the original place it was posted) is on the bitcoin.org website --> https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf
Here is a copy of the original email the Satoshi sent to Cypherpunks with the white paper --> https://www.mail-archive.com/cryptography%40metzdowd.com/msg09959.html

It looks like he sent it on November 1st, so you are a day off. But timezones can mess with that so in some places it might have been the 31st and in others the 2nd.

This is happy birthday to Bitcoin white paper or an announcement that Bitcoin will be launched actually and not the real Bitcoin birthday. Real birthday is a day of the launch or when the Genesis block was mined, which is 3rd of January 2009 like people have already said above.

Still this day needs to be remembered as a day when the world has seen first plans of Bitcoin!

It is amazing that 7 years ago Satoshi made Bitcoin. And still, no one has been able to make a better cryptocurrency than him. I couldn't imagine the world without bitcoin. I have used bitcoin a lot and it really helps with day to day life. It's great too see it come this far, for the amount of time and the price it has gotten too.

I'm not sure if I agree that a better cryptocurrency hasn't been made. Bitcoin has a lot of flaws, and there are a lot of altcoins out there with fixes to the inherent flaws of Bitcoin. However, the community surrounding Bitcoin has made it impossible for any alternative to take the throne, and I imagine nothing will be able to surpass Bitcoin until the community agrees to back this alternative.

Yeah. Bitcoin has gone further than any fiat currency could in a span of a few years.

Happy birthday bitcoin, and thank you satoshi!

The link to it that I found shows Satoshi sent the email on 31 October, but the link to it you found shows Satoshi sent the email on 1 November. Maybe the discrepancy is because of time zones, or maybe someone had to review his email before publishing it. I don't know how the Cypherpunks mailing list worked back in 2008.

Ahh, the whitepaper that sparked my interests on cryptography and bitcoin. It's Nov. 1 for me and he sent that on Nov. 1 in the mailing list, so I guess today is the 7th year of that event. You will easily understand how bitcoin works if you've read the whitepaper. ;)

Very good post and thread. Hope that it will be long: the longest of bitcointalk. Anyone of us which are here like bitcoin and have no reasons to tell this with big words. Our active participation here (who less and who more, day many and days few - depending from our free time, possibilities and other commitments) is the best testimonial about this. I hope that this our affection for bitcoin can be spread in many people possible because bitcoin is a rarity and was the first product which announce a new era in the world of technologies connected with its production technology and a new era in the entire development of the environment in which live the human kind. Welcome bitcoin. Thank you Satoshi. Become alive. Everyone who like bitcoin or who have hear about you want to know you and want to hear you and your words.

I agree. It would be more accurate to say that Bitcoin was conceived on 31 October 2008.

But isn't that a reason to celebrate too?  :)

Still whitepaper didn't actually mark the birth of bitcoin. It was only when the first block was mined, the first bitcoin came into being. Putting out a whitepaper is just like making a women pregnant(we know a baby is gonna come out) but we don't celebrate birthdays on when your/our mother became pregnant.

It is the occasion to make an annotation here in order to be staked. Now everyone can tell that bitcoin has "spirit". He gave a big show only one-two days after its birthday. To tell us who follow it and the others who will known it in the future that he can make big things. "Its my birthday and I want to celebrate it on my way. Giving to all of you the satisfaction of my evaluation with about 100%."

But then remembered that is a yet child and have no power to go such away so fast. And made a step back going to 50% evaluation. It will stay here? Only him know the answer.  ???  :D
