Title: Someone on Reddit took this picture

I think this deserved it's own thread there.
When I started to look at Bitcoin back in the day, it was still some sort of nerd thing that had absolutely no recognition in the real world. Now, a person was able to take a pic with 3 magazines (not some random magazines as you can see) in a shop talking about Bitcoin on their covers. How insane is that? I think we aren't really grasping what's going on in here. I wonder what things will look like in 10 years.

This is good publicity, unlike what we see everyday... Obviously not talking about the articles inside the mags, as I haven't read them, but as you say they aren't indeed random mags...

I do wonder too what's it going to be like in 10 years. I just hope mainstream media starts to write without presenting only half of the facts.

I hope those magazines find it's way to other countries that are not yet aware of Bitcoins. Magazines like that is a good medium in spreading awareness of a certain product or topic. It's about time that the world should know about Bitcoins and it's uses.

I think in general people here often forget how far it's come in such a short time. New arrivals seem to think it's been around forever when a few short years ago the entire concept didn't exist. Lord knows what things'll look like in a decade.

I hope this is only the beginning, Still waiting on more magazine, even local ones to cover some eye catching bitcoin articles as well which the mentioned magazines are well known but not easily acquired as only few countries get to read those... with the current events I could really see more magazines doing some sort of similar covers too as they don't want to get too far behind :)

I am skeptical about how they promote blockchain. But still this is going great.
In couple of years bitcoin will be known even more I believe.

There's a lot of anxious people waiting to become millionaires overnight that can't stop looking at the price, meanwhile amazing stuff is happening. The technology gets better and better and we've shaken bank's and institutions heads, they are still trying to wrap their minds around the thing. No doubt we will be very rich as we are still very ahead of the pack but it will take more time than the super early adopters, so sit back and enjoy the ride.

Well, media usually divide block chain and bitcoin. Into 2 separate beings, which is pretty silly in my opinion but it helps them feel better about knocking-off this technology.
But for bitcoin present in any form on the Covers of MAJOR economic title is HUGE! No wonder price is so high.

It is always nice to see bitcoin in the mainstream media/press. Well, at least as long as it is positive news like it is in this case.

Hopefully we can keep adoption steadily growing and the price will follow.

I just saw this picture in another post and is incredible,
In the near future bitcoin will be more available in magazines.
Let's see how many other magazines will re-write this article/image and spread more.

In 10 years I expect all the major economic magazines to have at least a fixed btc-dedicated column :)

Bitcoin is almost ready to go, with bigger blocks and more merchants it can be an awesome money medium (for money transfers), in a few years more I hope it will be considered a currency, and we will start to see the first products directly denominated in bitcoins :)

I amazed to see how bitcoin is getting popularity. However in developing countries like Nepal bitcoin can be more popular if we can spread more words about bitcoin because paypal like payment processosor doesn't allow us showing security reasons. As bitcoin is secured itself in its network, i think it can be new way for us to involve in international market. Feeling happy to be able fullfill some of my online purchasing need via bitcoin which was not possible on past.

It's a beautiful thing, and as someone that's been invested in Bitcoin since 2011 it's great to see more widespread adoption of Bitcoin itself and the technology behind it being utilised in very innovative ways.

that's quite cool. a year ago we'd never see anything like that. if the media is picking up on Bitcoin, then obviously average joe will begin to pick up on it too

Really cool. I guess what brings these medias to write about it is the acceptance of the blockchain tech by a number of big banks. So financial newspapers think that this is the future when banks jump on the bandwagen. In the end result banks think it gains importance because newspapers write about it and so on.

Looks good. :)

It definitely is nice to see such valuable quality exposure. Now on the (sort of) bad side of it, they mostly praise blockchain, and try to separate it as a topic from bitcoin.
In any way, bitcoin is getting a nice boost in popularity, but it would profit even more if the could just keep bitcoin itself as primary topic.

Don't be skeptical. The promotion of the blockchain is a promotion of the technology not "Bitcoin's blockchain" specifically. The technology has A LOT of really practical and good business uses, that will help business and consumers...enable more trust and honesty.

Let's hope that Bitcoin the currency or asset doesn't get eclipsed or lost in the shadow of the popularity of its technology.

Today an Italian magazine which targets women aged 30-60 published a comprehensive guide to Bitcoin. Something is changing, guys.

Hope that people's perception is finally changing. Black market/scammer/drugs tag on Bitcoin's reputation can't last forever.

You got link?

Was it positive article, with guidance hot to use it etc, or just dry, technical and informative?

Some times I also like to watch this video (although old), but really amazing how you notice it getting more and more popular and newsworthy.

It's basically videos from the news about bitcoin from the earliest ones forward.

For a magazine that has nothing to do with technology, it gives a fair representation of the actual situation and even instructs on how to acquire BTC via ATMs on the street.

Really cool to see such an unlikely demographic being exposed to Bitcoin. I have tried to explain my mother how Bitcoin works and I don't think she still gets it tho. It's very hard for older people to understand the concept of electronic money beyond the display on the ATM machines at banks. They can't fathom a stateless currency for some reason.

Judging by the translation, it's got neutral-to-positive tone, like the author is describing a novelty etc.
Always good to see BTC being mentioned outside Financial or Technology press sections (and not mentioning SilkRoad or Mt Gox).

Thanks for sharing.

The only problem I have with Bitcoin being wide spread is that technology isn't even wide spread.  There are people out there who do not have computers.  Granted, most people growing up now will be fine with it but I don't see it becoming a HUGE adoption for another 20-30 years

Nowadays? Oo I really don't know anyone that comes to mind in the moment that does not own a computer, notebook or smartphone. Well, it might be different in developing countries but very often they have smartphones there. They have nothing but smartphones they have... :)

I remember in 2014 when most of the things you would see about Bitcoin was mostly negative. It is great to see how far Bitcoin has gone since then. It has completely changed peoples thoughts about it. Now seeing this, it really sets in that a lot more people are using Bitcoin now. With this, hopefully even more people will start using Bitcoin. Maybe in 10 years time, that whole shelf would be filled with Bitcoin headlines.

Really cool to see indeed! Now we need to wait for bitcoin and blockchain dedicated magazines to make sure we see the magazines every week in the stores, not only at special editions.

Looks like everything is coming together nicely these past weeks!

I quite liked the trust machine book.
You liked it so much you necropumped this thread right out of the grave with a one-liner that no one gives a shit about.  Admittedly the thread wasn't ice cold yet but still.

That must've been a bookstore because I've never seen those magazines at the normal places that sell magazines nowadays, pharmacies and supermarkets.  Still, I guess it does show what OP posits, which is that bitcoin is starting to become a mainstream thing.

This is strange, I went for a hair cut yesterday and on the coffee table between the other magazines, I picked out that copy of <The Economist> and read the article. Today I browse the forum and I see this old thread being revived. I guess it's a sign, I need to buy more bitcoins today!

The shift in focus is definitely towards discussion of the Blockchain and not Bitcoin, but who cares.
