He also stated that any member is welcome to call and confirm the price and confirm that he has spoken with me.
I would like to run this group buy until Tuesday January 12th and close it at 6:00 pm EST. Any longer and we start cutting into mining profits ;D I am looking for someone to escrow the funds and make the payment to BlockC. There is no limit to how many or how few a person can buy. I am making a large enough purchase that will allow people to buy as few as 1 on this order. I will be making my payment directly to BlockC which will allow others to purchase fewer than 10 units and still get the $1100 price. I am going to ask philipma1957 to be escrow but will wait on his reply. Any questions or concerns please let me know. As for escrow I have never handled more then 13 coins for other people to purchase gear. At the time it was about 5300 used to purchase 4 s-7's I did split 50 coins for 2 blocks hit at the time that was 12000 I also split 25 coins for 1 block hit at the time that was 16 given at 500 each or 8000. @ kilo17 Check on shipping and how it gets handled I know you are USA based . He is allowing people to essentially piggyback off of my order at the discounted price I am getting for buying a bunch of units. It might be possible to send him our own shipping labels to slap on the boxes to ship out and then stick with the $1100, but I have not asked that question. Biodom - The noise from the Avalon is just rushed air (1 Fan vs 2 on the S7), not whining Jet Engine like S7. The default speed is at 20% and it's as quiet as S3, so you can definitely have it running in your office. However that's only if your office need a 1100W heater or you can get Ebay ducts to vent out the vent thru the window for summer. You just need to make sure you run it with a super quiet PSU like the EVGA G2 as the PSU may end up being noisier than your Avalon. Right now my house is 70F and the box is sounds like a little computer FAN up close. If your environment is hotter and you need to run the fan above 40% then the sound is closer to a Microwave exhaust fan on low to medium depending on the fan speed. I'm using it in my Living room right now to heat up the house. With the TV on, I don't even notice the Avalon 6 running. This is why the Avalon 6 is still my favorite box. At this $1100 price, it definitely keeps it in the race especially if the PI is included as I paid $1550 for it just a month ago. While I was considering the buy of an Avalon6 I was considering buying four new 5v or 6v 360 watt power supplies for under $30 each, putting a digital readout on each and again at one of the two PCIE connectors on each blade, putting two in series for each blade. Putting 12v supplies in parallel burns them up. So, with two of these improved cheap LED 12v supplies on an S3+ right here that I have a Kill-A-Watt monitoring, I get 120.2VAC, 0.70 power factor, 59.9~/s, 554VA, 388 watts, 4.62 amps. So, I figure the losses using cheap supplies would show up in the power factor figure and wattage. Can someone tell me how this compares with quality supplies? Thanks. What I'm powering with these really doesn't matter. The 12vdc would appear as a resistive load so power factor doesn't apply. I really can't get a good reading on the DC current. I considered buying shunts but then the cost... That is a ton of work for little savings, the server PSU's like the 1000w and 1200w can be had for $40 or less. Simply jump the "on" with a resistor and solder on some wires and done. I have a few I did recently and can post it on the PSU thread here if you want. Also the 1200w has a Pot to adjust voltage and amperage (I have a thread on that as well). A good server PSU will have active PFC on the input, which typically yields a PF of 0.97 or better. 0.7 is pretty bad and if you run too much power at that level your utility provider will hate you. My bill goes up 1% for every 1% my PF is below 90% (averaged for the whole shop).
I have some Avalon6 already in hosting; the most recent ones were put with a Dell 750W server PSU per blade. They're running just fine far as I can tell. I wish I had stock right now, but we won't for another month or I'd probably offer a discount deal for participation within this group buy. We're working on an interface board that's compatible with DPS800 and DPS1200 edge-connector server PSUs, probably the ones kilo just talked about. Maybe next month. Also I add 3½ LEDs measuring the voltage at the PCIE connector. With a C1 I use four 360 watt 12v LED supplies, one on each blade and a fifth to power the radiator fans and pump. While I was considering the buy of an Avalon6 I was considering buying four new 5v or 6v 360 watt power supplies for under $30 each, putting a digital readout on each and again at one of the two PCIE connectors on each blade, putting two in series for each blade. Putting 12v supplies in parallel burns them up. So, with two of these improved cheap LED 12v supplies on an S3+ right here that I have a Kill-A-Watt monitoring, I get 120.2VAC, 0.70 power factor, 59.9~/s, 554VA, 388 watts, 4.62 amps. So, I figure the losses using cheap supplies would show up in the power factor figure and wattage. Can someone tell me how this compares with quality supplies? Thanks. That is a ton of work for little savings, the server PSU's like the 1000w and 1200w can be had for $40 or less. Simply jump the "on" with a resistor and solder on some wires and done. I owned a KNC Mercury back in the day and they were having Jupiter users with burned up supplies. They were jumping the connector. Those supplies were designed for motherboards not miners. The respective voltage loads are way different. I suspect some supply manufacturers were using a low voltage rail for the maximum current ramp circuit as the low voltage would reach its limit quickest but jumping the connector and never putting a load on the low voltage rail, when a user would turn off the miner, the supply's low voltage rail wasn't brought to ground quickly enough then the user turned the Jupiter back on while the maximum current ramp was still high and bam the voltage spiked blowing the capacitors on the miner board sometimes causing the board to burn. By the way the solution there I think was the pre-fab jumpers with a resistor to the low voltage rail allowing it to be drawn down to ground when the miner was shut down. They sell those on Ebay. It actually uses a boost converter off rectified mains and constantly adjusts the current draw to be proportional to voltage draw, scaled against the power draw required to maintain output regulation. You get a bit of HF component and the nonlinearity of your rectifiers but otherwise it's pretty darn good (and that's not hard to filter out). I haven't measured directly but if you can find the 80PLUS sheets on 'em they'll have the expected power factor listed, and all the ones I've seen are well over 0.9. A regular passive PFC is cheaper and less complex but for any kind of high-power load will never get anywhere near what an active PFC can do. That's also why server PSUs (and high-end ATX) don't have a 120/240 switch like a lot of old ATX supplies, and contributes to increased efficiency off higher input voltage; whatever the input voltage, it all goes to the same high-volt DC bus by merit of the boost converter.

I've gone to the Kill-A-Watt dollars per day running cost and am waiting for numbers.... I've doubled the S3+ with the Dell PowerEdge cost per day as it's only running one blade - not accurate I know as the other doesn't use two controller cards but I'm only counting one fan on the S3+ half. Now, cost per day running the full S3+ getting 457GH/s avg times 100 divided by the cost per day of the ½ S3+ getting 225GH/s avg with the Dell at .98pf is 79%. So, the cheap supplies at pf .7 according to the Kill-A-Watt is more efficient by 11%. A true test would be to swap out the Dell PowerEdge for a cheap supply and see what it costs. When I got the Dell I did a Kill-A-Watt test and it didn't power as cheaply as my modified cheap supplies. The difficulty is the question if the power meter correctly calculates the power factor or not. If not then the cheap supplies would be worse. They take a USB cable from the Pi to an SPI adapter which then goes to one miner. Each miner has two SPI ports, so you'd have cables to daisychain from one miner to another. You'd only need one controller and SPI adapter to run, I don't know exactly how many but probably dozens of Avalon6.

So far five units fired up and hash. 2 rasp pi,s work fine. The only doa item was a four pin cable but if you are the guy that got a shit cable you would be annoyed. Yan was smart and sent me 13 four pin cables. At ppoc I will mine for you for the 6-7 days. I have two pdu's and 2 30 amp 240 volt circuits. each can do 30 x 240 x .80 = 5760 watts which is : 1 IBM 2980 watt psu on the left side fuse of the pdu the dual 2000= 4000 psu on the right fuse of the pdu that would be 26 amps if the dual 2000 = 4000 pulls 18 amps with 4 avalon 6's and the ibm 2980 watt psu does 8 amps running 2 avalon6's with two circuits I could double that power wise but not heat wise. I am going to be running a 60kwatt solar farm-------- maybe in the spring . I will be supplying gear and another forum member is building the site on his land. His business is solar installs and I leave that part up to him. I sold him 1 s-7 and I have the 3 avalon6's soon to be more. Except for 1 four pin cable Yan sent extra 1 blue adapter I had one from my Avalon 4.1 setups Lastly 1 rasp pi could have an issue. Of course all three parts are in my hands as passing problems on is not what I do. In running eight in my garage heat got high 90 f or so. This may have caused my 1 flakey rasp pi. I have a fan pointed at it along with all the other rasp pi's So as a heads up Watch the heat on the rasp pi's Note the have a grill for passive cooling soo make sure the grill does not get covered. This was the case with the one rasp pi that did have a few issues. I had it's grill covered since I flipped it and have a fan moving at it zero issues. He passed along some info about the samsung walwarts they are rated at 2 amps but there are dud ones that do not put out 2 amp. This in turn underpowers the rasp pi which in turn under powers the little blue adapter. I will test this and demo during the week. well as pissed as I was about killing off the 1 hashing board. I got some good news and info to share about the 2980 or the 2880 psu's. Right now I developed a low cost fan mod and really improved the sound and the power use for the fans. I am running 2 ½ avalon6's and they are doing 10 amps on the 2980 plat psu. that is 2400 watts but once I go to 10 amps my decimal drops off. if it is a flat 10 amps it would be 2400 watts. but it could be more like 2520 watts. my hashrate is 6775 + 1801 = 8576 so 2400/8576 = .2798 watts a gh better then the newer s-7's of course with the amps at 10.5 it is 2520 watts and 2520/8576 = 0.2938 watts a gh a hair better then the newer s-7's The fan mod may not work at a higher load of 3 full avalon6's so if I did not burn up the board I would not have tested this. the fan mod cost about 30 for the first 2980/2880 and then about 22 for any after. watts for the fans drop from 60 to under 25 .. once I fully test this mod I will reveal exactly how to make it . I will also show the install of the replacement hash board. I did test all of them and all worked.
