Title: Bitcoin ATMs
Post by: PinkLlama on February 13, 2016, 01:05:38 PM
Hey guys. Just a conversation here :P

Does your country or city have a Bitcoin ATM?

In Croatia (where I am) we have only one Bitcoin ATM in Zagreb. It's in Tkalčićevoj 68, Zagreb if anyone wants to sell/buy some Bitcoin there.

http://crobitcoin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/batm.jpg

When you buy, there's only a 3% fee! That's pretty great to be honest because usually, on forums, the fees are 10-20%.

So do you have a local Bitcoin ATM?

offtopic; gotta love Croatian girls am I right or am I right

ot; I think we have some ATM's here in Melbourne but they're too far from me, 1-2 hours lol not gonna bother going that for to take out money.
I just use e-coin & withdraw at any atm, but the problem is the fees :/
$100 = $5.7 USD fee.

No ATMs in my city or country so far and don't think we will get them because here you need a government approval for things like this and until it becomes completely legal, I don't expect to see them.

There also the practical factor of reaching out for fiat from your digital coins at physical places. There's a comfort factor here that, obviously, comes at a price...

I would prefer 10x more a local ATM machine that would give me the easy to use tools to convert my coins instead of having to go online to an exchange, post an order, wait for the order to be executed, than transfering fiat to my bank account (which usually takes more than 24 hours) and only after that being able to withdraw my cash.

Regina, SK Canada has a BTC atm at a pizza place a way from where I am. I can get there, but have to go to another neighborhood to use it.

We went to see it and prove for ourselves that it really was there. I was glad it was there.

...

There are two BTC ATMs in my city (metro population a little over 2,000,000).  Both machines work.  Lamassu brand.

9% premium to "spot" (very high), but localbitcoins.com does not seem to work well here.  Their rep told me that they were going to get better machines (more robust, higher capacity) fairly soon.  Most of the times I have used them there were no other people there wanting to as well.

Here in Belgium, we currently have 4 Bitcoin ATM's.
Two in Antwerp, one in Ghent and one in Hasselt (on campus).

I'd actually like to see one in Leuven, it's a big university town and I've met quite a few people there who use Bitcoin.
Also, it's pretty surprising that there isn't one in our capital, Brussels. Not a single one in the French-speaking part of Belgium.

Source:
https://coinatmradar.com/country/21/bitcoin-atm-belgium/

Side note: Would it be possible to set up some sort of crowdfunding campaign to get a Bitcoin ATM in my home town (Leuven), if I provide at least 25% of the investment myself? I wouldn't know what perks to give to investors/crowdfunders and it would be a pretty small target audience.
Or would this just be a pretty bad idea to start with, would like to hear some opinions of long-time members of this forum.

Yup converting bitcoin to your currency takes a lot of time before you can get it but if you would prefer to pay bitcoin with stuff and if you and your country already accepted bitcoin and has a ATM in yout country which you can withdraw bitcoins then that would be easy .  But now only few are acepting bitcoins and i also read that some country has an atm which you can withdraw bitcoin and thats really nice and i hope that we do have also that here in our country

Anybody ever sold bitcoin at a BTM? What experience(s) have you had?

I presume you can send whatever you want to sell to a paper wallet, then go to the BTM & scan the QR code & the relevent amount of cash comes out of the machine (minus fees).

Sounds easy in theory but I've never used one. I've been a HODLER for a few years now & I'm trying to get as much info I can so I can get rid of my coins in a variety of ways whenever the time comes (still a few years away at least but I want to be prepared).

I did not use a ATM honestly. I know it cost a lot of money just to have one.
Even worse is that you always have the risk of system defects and robbery.

well after some investigation i can say that it's considered as a vending mechine as it could only sell bitcoin and i just give the bitcoin vending machine 's company a question about it and they say the same thing,it's definitely a vending machine,it's for correction

There is only one Bitcoin ATM here, in Serbia. It is located in Belgrade in some restuarant. Too bad that I am not living there, so I will not be able to buy Bitcoins that way. I hope it comes to my town so I can use it because I do not own a credit card, but Serbia is a small country so I think it will mainly be in big cities and later get to other, smaller ones.

In fact, I am not entirely sure. However, I believe that a city like Sydney should have a Bitcoin ATM somewhere if it is in Croatia.

It would be nice to have a Bitcoin ATM around. And a meagre 3% fee is pretty good. In fact, it is one of the best that I have heard about.

Not your ID, rather, it has to be verified through your phone and Bitcoin Mobile App.
I haven't personally tried it yet, but according to the machine developer, the time varies:
   For Buying: Estimated Time : 3 - 10 minutes
        https://scontent.fmnl4-3.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/12523182_572131202950227_2768214526522825504_n.jpg?oh=2581f937dec625d3259b7349dc7cc0cb&oe=5841D7FF

For Selling or Getting Cash from your Bitcoin Mobile App : Estimated Time : 5 - 30 minutes

     * It mainly depends on how long the confirmation takes from your Bitcoin Mobile App
     * Some needs two confirmations for the transaction to be validated and accepted by the machine

The answer is no, we don’t have even a single bitcoin ATM in my city although it is the biggest city and the largest financial centre in my country. We only have some small coffee shops that accept bitcoin as payment in the foreigners area and honestly, I’ve never tried those shops as well as the bitcoin ATMs so I’m so curious about how bitcoin ATMs work and I really want to experience these extraordinary machines at least once in my life.

Croatia, eh?  That's great, it's nice to hear there's bitcoin action across the world.  I'm in the US and I have yet to see anything like a bitcoin ATM.  I don't exactly live in a hick town in a hick state either.  Sometimes I think the hicks use bitcoin more so than the urban stylers like myself.

I still don't think they're necessary, though.  You can buy bitcoin just as fast and with lower fees right on your cell phone through Circle or any of the other exchanges.

Does your country or city have a Bitcoin ATM?

In Croatia (where I am) we have only one Bitcoin ATM in Zagreb. It's in Tkalčićevoj 68, Zagreb if anyone wants to sell/buy some Bitcoin there.

When you buy, there's only a 3% fee! That's pretty great to be honest because usually, on forums, the fees are 10-20%.

So do you have a local Bitcoin ATM?
My country doesn't have a bitcoin atm only exchangers

I haven't bought or sold myself and won't with that kind of markup.

Yeah but a low initial volume can force them to have high fees, later they will lower their fees not because of competition but because there will be a high number of txs and they will get more money even with a lower fee.

When you buy, there's only a 3% fee! That's pretty great to be honest because usually, on forums, the fees are 10-20%.

So do you have a local Bitcoin ATM?

3% fee is not a huge fee comparing with those that require you lots of documents and verification process which sometimes can take many business days. In my country I haven't seen any atm bitcoin but if i ever see any I would go there and try how it works (with small amounts of course)

In my country Bitcoin ATMs are not so wide spread and the first one was placed in capital but there are more and more ideas to put them in other cities too. And some tourists who have visited my country have been asking about those ATMs so people are starting to see it as something normal and usual.

The issue is not so much bitcoin ATMs, but more so that there is a limited amount of retailers that accept BTC in proximity to the ATMs.

I think the same as ATM machines in general, you are only charged the normal transaction fee and no fee will be charged double. Because I've never tried Bitcoin ATM then I myself do not understand. thanks

Not surprising at all, tbh. Makati is a city that has always been advanced in terms of this stuff. Bitcoin ATM would be a good way to introduce Bitcoin to the people passing by. But, I don't think the machine in the picture is functional. See the picture and the paper on it says "Out of order". I've never seen this Bitcoin ATM in person (well, because I live far away from the city) but I'm looking forward into seeing them around especially now that you can buy Bitcoins from 7-Eleven.

Lol, but everybody knows they can deposit their money into their wallet directly, but I means the usefulness of bitcoin atm, you can withdraw your BTC into fiat at the same time and no need to visiting the exchange site or contacting the buyers of bitcoin before.

As far as I know, there is already a bitcoin ATM here in UAE but I did not see one yet. This is an advantage to people in here if they use bitcoin because about half of the population does not have access to banking services since there is a salary requirement in opening a bank account which is quiet high and only those who have positions in the company can usually open their own bank account. Using bitcoin, people can store their money as bitcoin and reduce the possibility of spending more because of the limited use of bitcoin.

Cool,  i haven't seen any bitcoin ATM here in our place.  But soon i hope that there would be some merchant that is going to established ATM same as your place have.  I just want to ask if how beneficial  that bitcoin ATM for you as a user.  Since i think that there are also other services in which you can convert your bitcoin to fiat or for buying and selling

I never saw or used any bitcoin ATM, there is two in capitol city, which is 240 km from my city. Is anyone really using this ATM`s or they are just standing there and collecting dust?
Someone posted a site about where we can find bitcoin ATM`s all over the world, I wonder is there any statistic how much people are using this, and is there some profit in this? I tried to find something on internet, but I didn't have success.

Good for you I am envious right now that you have that.  We do not have it here but maybe one day as bitcoin is accepted here in our country to pay for our bills.  Maybe if many people here in our country would use bitcoin and will be familiar with it maybe our bitcoin wallet company would put up a bitcoin atm.  While still we do not have that I am very much happy to the service and on what bitcoin can do for me.

Just checked coinatmradar.
And regarding their charts there were 252 new Atms taken into operation this year so far.
Last year the number was "only" 182.
So compared to that this years performance is really good and we have a few more months to go this year.
2,72 Atms as an average number, get installed per day.
With that kind of momentum we could see the 1000 Atms installed this year already. That would be awesome.
What we don't know is if deinstalled Atms get taken into account as well.

Installing ATMs is great and all, but did it also mention something about how many of them are actually being used by people? I think that's the most important bit of information.

In my country (RO) you can buy Bitcoin from self-payment machines (zebrapay). The fees are higher than I'd like, but they cover quite a lot of cities and they are quite handy.
But you can only buy Bitcoin, not sell....

There are a few BTMs in Bucharest, but that's too far for me...

I think it is a cool idea but if they want people to use them more often the fees must be lowered,if i recall correct there is only one Bitcoin ATM in my city and not very far from where my home is but i never used it cause it doesn't give you the option to sell BTC and i am not interested in buying from an ATM.

According to Coinatmradar there are lots in Spain, but my experience is that few if any are working correctly when trying to sell coins. I have visited several along the coast between Málaga and Barcelona. If you send coins and don't get the right amount you won't get your coins back. I tried to warn about it on Coinatmradar but I was banned.

That's not a good service, in order for a ATM to successfully work, it should also allow us to buy bitcoins like some Bank ATMs which allows its client to withdraw and deposit, I think they will innovate and improve their system once there are many people who are in demand of using the ATM.

Considering there is a constant increase of bitcoin atm stalls, there should be high enough demand/use of them because they would not be installing them if there were not in demand. In my opinion, bitcoin ATM's playing dual role like spreading bitcoin to new people and for a bitcoiner it serves the real purpose of ease bur/sell for fiats. What else we could expect from a traditional vendor machine to modern crypto.

I think we still also have a Robocoin machine here too but with all the verification needed like photo and palm print scan  i would be to paranoid to walk in front of the machine let alone use it.

Yeah I  actually have 2 bitcoin ATM’s in my town and they both work great. The fees are a bit high and I would rather just go to an exchange and get money like that, but there are working ATM’s across the globe.
