I tend to flip through the main topics in the general section, daily.
I've noticed when they talk about useless stuff, there is general "peace" in the Bitcoin world and the price tends to float up.
It's when they start getting serious about debating stuff that the price goes down.

This week is very short as we only have today and Sunday left. My prediction is that we see the price reach $430-$440 somewhere next week.

The only thing guaranteed in life, is death. You cannot know for sure that bitcoin will go up - a security vulnerability might get exposed and it might bottom out instead. Just remember not to hold all your eggs in the cryptocurrency investing basket and you should be fine.

i hope price will not go down or rise in this week or next month, i guess bitcoin price will stable like now for one month again before we see price increase fast.

I don't think there has ever been a rise in value after a period of 'stability', only crashes.

Everyone has been wishing that the price of bitcoin will rise to make profit but i hope we wont be disappointed when the halving comes.

I believe we will see an increase in price and therefore a reaction in th market when SegWit was implemented.
Until then we will continue moving sideways.

i think we'll see the price stay in the current range of $410 to $420 for another week. i can't see any indications of why the price will go up next week. my guess is that we'll see the market starts moving a month before the actual block halving. till that time it will most likely remain the same.

i don't want to believe this because the price looks stable and nothing indicates any upward movement.

but at the same time, thinking back i see this is somewhat true :) when things are heated (bad) the price goes down which is obvious but the rise usually happens in the calm.

Maybe for a few weeks for the price to be in the $400 - $450 range.

i hope this is will be true because i'm always excited when bitcoin rise up but we are pretty close to next week although prices will go up i guess that will be less than $5 and not more than that

My prediction, there will be like no much change in bitcoin price until the halving. It will remain between $390-$420 all the time till that time.

I think the same too. Nothing much is gonna change, Bitcoin is now rather stable at $400-$420.
But I won't be surprised if we will see some further price decline in anticipation of pump right before halving.

the price may indeed stay at these levels for a few weeks, but eventually we will get some action back in the market. but i have to say that i like this stability. if the price will also remain stable like this at $500 and higher, then it will get even better for the most people here.

Well, I hope it's also the best. I will save my bitcoin in recent months. probably about 3 months, perhaps at that moment bitcoin prices already so high that I could sell it. but for this week, I think bitcoin prices remained stable or less at the price of $ 415

With some good news about Bitcoin the price could be go higher. Mostly there are some Bitcoin news and that could influence the price.

Well I suppose that is fairly true.

Bitcointalk is the #1 forum for discussions surrounding bitcoin online and is really "up there" in popularity when it comes to politics, society and technology.

Therefore, there's a majority of the community that trades cryptocurrencies and altcoins (and thus who controls the price) who reads and posts on here. Any bad news or negative speculation could cause these traders to get worried and start selling their shares of bitcoin. This can result in a snow ball effect, where everyone releases everything causing the price to plummet.

Of course, there is also hype surrounding halving which is in just a few short months (and which we cannot wait for). This is guaranteed to send the price through the roof, so perhaps it is also announcements/events that are happening at the same time that most people are being "peaceful".

It has been stable for a long time now, and I do not really think it will go up much from here. I guess that 420 or so is possible, but 440 seems unlikely.

At this point $440 may look far away for you, but a whale can get the price there instantly if he so wish. Right now I can't see the price go up much. Maybe it will go to $422 or so and then come back to around $410.

Since past few weeks this expectation of price go high is continuing. Now the price is stable, so its expected to go high on halving. Till that little increase can be experienced.

bitcoin prices  traded largely between $410 and $420 during this week as substantial visibility this week.. the digital currency enjoyed robust trading volume... there is a chance to go up this week...

The bitcoin price has gone up to $470 and went back to $440. It is now $450. So it is still range trading.

Now it is staggering around $450, sure we can believe that the price will rise significantly without any fall for couple of months and we can hope this to happen till this year end.

The price is quite stable at the moment. If it lasts for a few more weeks, that will help the price to rise higher.

The main reason is due to the devaluation of yuan and little and middle investors are looking to save its funds, that's why they have invested in bitcoin and thanks to this we have this price ! The Chinese are the main force behind the recent big rise. There is a chance the Chinese currency will devalue, so people buy bitcoin.

1000 usd will not be achieved in next week, as price has stuck to $750 but if everything goes fine than it can touch to $800 in next week and that is also good price to achieve.

I do not think that people will buy the bitcoin like crazy. At the moment, people are buying the Ethereum like crazy.

That could be the reason why the bitcoin price did not rise in the last few weeks. Investors are buying Ethereum.

So at least one of the Ethereum has to be killed before the rise of bitcoin can be resumed again. What a pity.

The bitcoin price has already 3% in the last 24 hours. I am not sure if that is just normal market volatility.

The Bitcoin price has taken a significant hit before two months and after that it stayed stable. Now it had suffered 3% drop overnight and I think the price may increase from next week.

3% drop is nothing in bitcoin price. it is only a $10 drop in the $650 market price which is only a small set back because of those day-traders cashing out and wanting to buy back in again. you will see a jump back sooner than you may think.

such a drop is indeed nothing in the bitcoin world. you know what's even more funny? when the price goes up like 10% then people say "this is it?". when the price goes down like 2-3% people see it as a big dump, lol. people here don't know what they want anymore.

When Bitfinex returns, the price will shoot up to $600 if it doesn't already happen next week. People are somewhat over the hack by now. It will be interesting to see if the price can stay above the $600 level. I think it will take two attempts.

yeah bitcoin market always acts weird, the hack which wasn't really big compared to daily trade volume created a near $100 panic drop and i am sure the return can cause a shoot up as well, although we are already near the $600 so we can expect a much bigger rise.

The price has only been going down in the past few weeks. I hope it goes up to a steady 600$ - 640$ in the next week. The drop is not very dangerous though, we will see a steady price over 600$ soon, it is slowly but surely recovering from the drop, nothing to be worried about.

Everyone was also waiting for the next move before the price came down from $650 to where it is now. In that aspect nothing has changed so far. Right now we need some large buys to spark the market action again. My guess is that we'll reach $600 this week.

Was there any other reason for the price drop last week other than the Bitfinex hack?
If not I can almost guarantee it will be back up to $650 within the next couple weeks.

Even price went down after bitfinex hack the best thing to see is price has started to rise slowly now and we can expect much higher price in next couple of months.

I think $600 will be touched in next 1 or 2 days and its not difficult now, real satisfaction will be when again it crosses $650 mark and it is possible to reach in next month.

the price reached the $600 level yesterday. to be more precise, bitstamp peaked at $603. right now it's waiting for a large buyer to pull the trigger. if this happens, then i think we might see another peak to possibly $610-$620 in the coming days.

i hope that you are right though unfortunately the price is pretty much impossible to predict so the price might easily fall either and cause us a big loss

Well we dont know if the price will hit again in few days but the price right now is 596 according to preev price so i think the price will go to 600 soon..

It seems Poloniex is quite active recently. The trading volumes there including all the coins is the highest.

I think the people who lost their money in bitfinex are diverting their investments to poloniex and started to trade on that site as it is the most trusted site at a moment.

people using bitfinex are either back at bitfinex trading there again or they have gone to other bitcoin/fiat exchanges like kraken, bitstamp, btc-e and a couple of others and they certainly have not gone to poloniex because polo does not have fiat trading what you see is USDT which is tether, and altcoin

polo is seeing a lot of activity these days because of the ethereum and becasue ethereum foundation is throwing everything they have got at ETC to push its price down.

The 600 or the 620 dollars are just less than 5% from the current price, that is within the easy reach for the bitcoin price.

I think the hack will be a positive effect on the price in the long term. It provided news coverage for bitcoin and it could help get more people to adopt the currency. Hopefully we'll get to $700 within the year.

Yeah right it can be bad effect because many people are expecting for the price increase and now because of hacking the price goes down and people are panic to sell.. but i think this is not the reason that we need to panic sell because every year its happening if you remember mtgox and cryptsy this is just the same..

In some ways I can understand people that are panic selling when it comes to an exchange being hacked, and as result lost plenty of coins. But the whole point is that the price always recovers after a while. Instead of selling at panic, use other people their panic selling reaction to buy up their cheap coins. It will allow you to make some sweet profits in a very short time. Only a very few do this. Others will just end up buying back their coins at a premium....

If price falls extremely then we should consider it as an opportunity to buy maximum coins as we are sure that price will again go higher someday allowing us to make good profits.

The thing with other people is they always expect the price to just go up and up, that is why when the price does not meet their expectations, they resort to panic selling. As has been said before, the price may go down by as much as 10% or even 15% in a flash, but it always finds a a way to recover. It may take a while for the recovery period but it nevertheless shows that it can bounce back and reach for new highs.

Most of us always thinking the rising of the price of bitcoin and not thinking about if the price will going down so thats why they panic they are not ready if the price of bitcoins is going down but yep you're right it always finds a way to recover from down. Exactly people have too high expectations from bitcoin and once they don't see it happening they start selling their coins unless waiting for the right time to perform an action and start blaming bitcoins.

as I often experienced when trading. when I buy a coin and hope prices will rise higher, but the coin is not reached the highest price, and it fell back. I was forced to sell the coin at a cheap price. so I think we do not expect to see higher prices in a short time, due to it really takes a long time.

If you are into bitcoin then the first and foremost thing is required is patience without that you can never expect profits, even if you see price going down you should hold it tight and wait for the right time to sell.

Patience is required for holding bitcoin. But we also need more development of the bitcoin environment. It is quite slow recently.

There is no news to drive the bitcoin price low or high. So the bitcoin price will drift lower. More people will invest in the Ethereum or other altcoins.

you need infrastructure to help bitcoin not only patience, if nothing is done about block reward bitcoin will not go up, people are not stupid, they will not invest in something that it is not complete like bitcoin

There is also a rise in every stability. Especially when a promotion is effective and new things are coming out.  But well maybe in bitcoin case it is an exemption.  But who'll know.  We are all uncertain of the future.  All I know is if this thing is played well many will profit from this bitcoin's decreasing price.

Now i don't think that in August Bitcoin will go up, bitcoin will be remain in it. Also it will be under $600. But after one month bitcoin might be up and it will continuously going high. May be i am wrong but i have predict that bitcoin will go at $800 to $1000 in the end of the year, and thats a good period of time to make profit, so if you can buy bitcoin it is a good time of buying.

Yeah and that you can do with altcoin trading as there are major pumps and dumps in it which allows you to multiply your coins in quick time.

Very precise, it should be done. But if if do so in a manner that in a hurry, it will be bad for you. Because it could just be the price is now just a diversion to minimize the owner of crypto in order not to overload the transaction when the price is higher than it is now. Before doing so, you should do a study or observation. so as a result you do not too disappointing

Well if you don't want to extend your waiting period, you can also consider to ride some large price increase when there is a price trend increase. For sure there will be like $100+ margin of price increase in the near future as price is really unexpected. Make sure you always monitor the price as the trend comes in any time of day.

Traders are doing the same thing and earning lots of profits, and I think that is the best way to play with your coins as if its allowing to make quick profits then why to miss the opportunity.

people with experience that know how to do trading, they can make some very decent profits in quite a short time. however, not all people can do this. those who can't must stick to just holding their coins for a longer time till the price goes up high enough. otherwise they will lose money instead of making money.

100% is too high because it need to get recover than we can keep too high expectation. Price is under pressure at the moment so it will take long time to start rising again.

Yup unless it don't find big investors who are willing to invest their money into it will not take its price higher, we need fresh money in the form of investments to see  higher price in future.

There have been passed many weeks since this thread is created but about the current week I can say that I don't expect the price to be increased more because the dump is not stopping and the price probably will be at $500 at the end of the month if no pump happens.

you are right though i doubt it is a good decision as there is a possibility that the person who is doing trading might miss a huge pump and not make money

I will do differently. I believe if the bitcoin is developed, the price will go very high. That is the reason I hold since 2013.

those people are including me because i don't mind got small profit because i was considers that small profit will much better than loss and if i thought short trade will more profitable than long term hold then i would choose that way because for me do trading is for profit and nothing more than that

Nice holding since 2013 wow you have a big profit now. That is the different of short term and long term. If traders want a small profit they take risk for short trade but those have patient and holding the bitcoin for long term they get big profit on it.
So thats nice you are a good trader because you have a patient to wait the bitcoin increase the price.

they manipulating the price and we can't control that, but for me bitcoin will still rise up no matter what since that many investors are joining from time to time, so we can't predict yet mate if the price will rise up this week.

Ya it is true that when ever their is price increase in the market , the small traders start to take profit and sell bitcoins, but this dont means that the price affects too much, until their is not a bad news the price increase will be their, because their are so many users who are buying bitcoins for investment means and they are not like short term profit trader.

about this week rise that we cannot tell till their is any good news i dont think the price wont give much affect in the market.
