"People are just too stupid to use bitcoin right now,” I overheard someone argue at a bar a few weeks ago as we were discussing the potential of cryptocurrency. “Society’s understanding of where money comes from is the real challenge.

It's not just that people just don't like change (unless it's the coin kind).  Heck I can't get my Mom away from rotary phones not alone use a new kind of money for things. 

that's normal, people are used to old things and even afraid of new technologies, they used old phone for example for 20 years and they won't go to new phone in days

same with bitcoin, we use fiat for ages now and it will be very, very hard to make people change to bitcoin because it is still new to them

Well, among other things, yes. Additionally, what I find weird is when people ask me how Bitcoin works exactly (in-depth) when they don't even understand how the monetary system that they're using works at all.

This may or may not be true but this kind of attitude is not something that gets anyone anywhere. The argument should not be the fault of the (potential) users, but rather the product/companies that are trying to push a product that users don't understand.

Exactly, when something new comes to being it surely takes some time to be understood by people around the world, the same case is with bitcoin, though a lot of people have already understood and started using it but it is still a long way to go for bitcoin as the whole world is still unaware of such a technology, and at first when someone just hears about it then they would surely react like that until they don't totally understand the things behind it.

in order to start using bitcoin now needs a big change from the old familiar fiat to a new technology which is not well known among regular people. also there is always the lack of places to use bitcoin at, for example in that bar you heard this if the bar was accepting bitcoin that would have been a different story!

Unfortunately i have to agree in some aspects with OP.
People in general are just very lazy and ignorant. Learning new things comes with much effort.
Bitcoins big chance for mass success is or are big companies. If they introduce
BTC to mass consciousness as stable reliable way of storing goods than we may have a chance
for complete adoption.
Bitcoins are not that hard to use or gather, average Joe will understand (basics) in minutes but
first he have to have some desire to use them.
And second, an easy way of acquiring that knowledge. This is where we, older users have our part to play. 
Advertisement of BTC needs to be done by bigger/wealthier party's. 

Guys you have to admit that it is not really easy to buy BTC. After that you have to store your BTC's in a wallet and this isn't easy neither.

in fact you don't need to upload your identity or your details to create a wallet let compare with other payment processor like paypal you must verificate your account, about fees imagine if you send 1 Million dollars in bitcoin or 1 million dollars through western union, of course bitcoin is simplest is easy to use and its decentralized no one can't froze your money, i think peoples are just too lazy and ignorant to understand how bitcoin's work

I agree here as many don't take Bitcoins as a way to not pay taxes and its decentralization and ability to own the private keys of a wallet don't go well with the mass. They still prefer PayPal/Cards over Bitcoins as many websites/brands only make use of these payment methods. Also, there are way too many negatives written by media about bitcoins that people fear that it can be illegal to use this currency which is a untrue. It's just that crypto currency is not a convenient payment method for many and it's not easy to buy bitcoins online as well.

actually both of the things that you mentioned are super easy.
buying bitcoin is so easy these days with services like coinbase, circle, localbitcoins to buy locally, all these exchangers.

also storing bitcoin is easy, you don't need any bank or paperwork, you can just download one of the bitcoin wallets that suites your needs and store them easily in the smallest of spaces.
i don't know what part of storing bitcoin in a wallet is hard for you?

Actually we don't really need knowledge in using bitcoin if we already rich and use it just to buy goods. I think what you mean about stupidity in using bitcoin is that we need some talens in multiplying bitcoin like in trading and investments. Of course not all of us has given this skill on such areas that is why we cannot deny that there is really some people who are dumb in using bitcoin and are keeping complaining.

Maybe because they really dont know what bitcoin is because bitcoin is unknown for those people who are not expose on internet or adventorous on world wide web. But for those who know like us is we know its potential thats why where here. I hope someday people will be educated by this. Many people can be help for using bitcoin. It can be a temporary solution for unemployment. All need for those people who didnt know is education for bitcoin.

i wouldn't say that they are stupid, look at people that use bitcoin, trades it and other alt coins, and even gambles with them, and of course they spend them, so they really know what is bitcoin, but they are afraid to use it as main currency because they need time to get used to it more, but tehy aren't stupid

If I'm the average Joe on the street and my paycheck is in dollars and things are priced in dollars, why go out of my way to buy bitcoin just to spend it on things that I could just as easily buy with dollars?

Yes bitcoin is very complicated to the people who didnt expose to much in web. and even if they are always online of facebook theyr not still aware this is existing. lucky we are adventourous person and knoe about this and yet not were earning by bitcoins. And i dont think were stupid cause we earn by this were not wasting our time for nothing.

Yeah I didn't saw any stupidity in people using bitcoin, it worth its users a lot, there are people who don't know anything about bitcoin. For that we are lucky and it's a boon for us to know about bitcoin.

All the people aren't too stupid, you made it too generic. Some need more information about what is and how could change its monetary system. Others never heard anything about bitcoin. And some could be stupid or wrong and don't want to use it.

it is not just on people, and not only because of their stupidity.
as others have mentioned, it is mostly because of the fear that usually people have towards new things and fear of changing the familiar ways of living. so they stick to their regular ways and don't change unless they are forced to.

besides this fear, the media and the government and their rules doesn't help this either. especially the media with demonizing bitcoin has always been a downside for bitcoin adoption.

My mother finally made it to use a smartphone and therefore dropped her old but pretty stable Nokia 6310i.
In the beginning she really struggled with swiping her finger and tiny tipping on the surface.But now she got used to it.
However she often don't understand to what all those different apps are good for.
As I told her about Bitcoin her whole face looked like a huge question mark.It is just too much for the average people if they don't have knowledge about money in general, network systems, economics, politics etc. It's too complex.Therefore nothing will change with Bitcoin or cryptos over night.Many people are sceptic to new things. Especially when this also involves money!!

People don't care about the FED, or the fact that they are printing infinite fake money, they just want to pay for something, and get the goods or services delivered, everything else is just irrelevant. And that's the challenge, wake up the sheep into realizing Bitcoin is real money and fiat is bullshit.

It's just because misunderstandings have been made regarding Bitcoins as it's just a so-called ponzi scheme and nothing else, we need to change the thinking of people by going ahead and telling them that it is not what they think it is, it's a completely different and innovative concept which is still needed to get adopted by so many who are not aware of it yet...

Stupidity is only one factor... you have to add laziness into that too. The researchers and smart people determined that the average person in most developed countries, have

experienced a shorter attention span. {Some say, 20 minutes at most} This is because of too many external influences and also because people are bombarded by too much

information. {TV / Cellphones / Internet .... } They even adjusted the intervals for advertisements within TV programs to accommodate for that. So people are over stimulated

and this leads to a shorter attention span. If you want to explain Bitcoin to someone, you have to take that into consideration and have short breaks... We are now doing this

in our meetups, with great success. {Beer/smoke Breaks every 20 minutes}  ;D

Its not people are too stupid, its because they are lazy and don't have clear objectives, if they do, then I am sure they can embrace just anything, having a very strong determined will to achieve what you plan then you can achieve anything, using, buying, selling and storing bitcoin. Bitcoin is more for persons who have very much clear objectives in life and see Bitcoin as a mean to achieve them. I guess this is not for the mass after all, although I hope to be wrong.

The problem is - most people are not thinking about concepts of society, politics, economic and philosophy. They just want to live.
FIAT money is for them something so natural like air, they don't wonder where it comes from and how it works - and how it could be even better.

We just lucky because we are still young and still want to learn new things . With age, learning new things is getting harder and harder each day.

It's not because we are adventurous , it's because we are still young. Even tho there are Old people that still learning new things, but for average people, it's hard.

People are suspicious about new things. And yet after fighting against something (no matter what change), people slowly start to accept it. I think same will be with bitcoin. Silent water crushes even mountains, bitcoin is slowly conquer the world. I think progress that bitcoin made in last 8 years is awesome. Bitcoin is stronger every year, we can imagine how everything will look for another 8 to 10 years.
I believe bitcoin have a nice future. Many people work for that and many many more follows. Community is growing stronger.

I think he's right! But not (only) for the reasons in the article. My main reason: look at how many bitcoins are either lost forever or stolen, I've read estimates of 20-30% of all bitcoins ever mined. In just 7 years losing 20-30% is an amazing amount of money, and that is only from people who are bitcoin enthousiasts. Now imagine a 95-year-old has to use a bitcoin wallet, encryption and create backups of it. Of course that has a huge chance to go wrong.

The average person does not understand the current concept of fiat money either. I think barely anybody really understands its debt-based creation. As the article explains: " In fact, 97% of all money is created by banks via fractional reserve banking.", AKA only 3% of the money is actually printed, and 97% is made up by banks to earn interest on non-existing money.

Well, very interesting statement but mostly I agree.
In fact, I don't think that people are stupid to use Bitcoin but they are more scared to do anything online or skeptic about Bitcoin.
I could see from my personal experience how difficult is to inspire people to try bitcoin.
Some people are afraid even to buy something online with credit card or to use Internet banking :)
I think that mostly young generation is open to bitcoin but this will not be enough that Bitcoin becomes mainstream.
We need also many ''big'' companies and merchants which accept Bitcoin.
Hopefully, after that even stupid people will start using bitcoin :)

I think that's wrong idea, if you secure your wallet and have the good knowledge about Bitcoin's currency it's better a lot than using fiat right now. This crypto currency is growing up daily, the price will get higher and stable soon as well

I am agree with you about this point. In fact i think the future is for the Bitcoin's users worldwide.

I guess for some people very rarely surrounding normal internet or just open facebook and twitter, they will never know the potential of bitcoin. even just do not know to use bitcoin, even they did not know bitcoin. I think they need to think more broadly that the internet can also make a lot of money, and bitcoin is one way to get it.

their stupidity and ignorance is our opportunity. because right now the price of bitcoin is low if you believe in bitcoin and believe that in the future it is going to be mass adopted.

If salaried people are given the option to choose bitcoins as a part-payment option (just like I get the option of choosing Sodexo coupons as it's tax free), people would choose bitcoins in that case like people in my office do. It's not about being stupid here but it's that people who might be interested in investments as well don't find it easy to buy bitcoins and others just don't care.

Those who know bitcoins will never leave them as they know the benefits of it.

i agree but the problem is that it doesn't matter if we who love bitcoin never leave it, because even if we all stay and continue using bitcoin and it doesn't reach the mass adoption we will never see the true usage of bitcoin and the high prices.

Lets face facts,people do not like change and its the biggest detriment to living a authentic life. Lot of people get stuck in a issue and they wear it for the rest of their lives.
You add the fact that most people read at or below a grade five level of reading comprehension and you start to see the roadblocks for bitcoin. You span out to a global sense and it gets more dire.

People just using fiat because it works fine. But after they experience hyperinflation and get their fiat ballances worthless themselves, they may be inclined to use Bitcoin next time instead to dont have any fiat at risk anymore.

You can save wealth in gold longterm, but for everyday use you need Bitcoin instead - and with the same anti inflation protection like gold has!

I do not think that people are just too stupid to use the bitcoin, I think they are thinking its just too difficult or they do not know that it is at all.
Mostly likely globally it will be because of the point that people do not know it and do not know the advantages from the bitcoin itself.

Well that remembers me the internet on the first steps,no one know how to use it,nowadays is hard to survive without it.Bitcoin is facing the same problem,people dont know how to deal or work with bitcoin soo they ignore it,but consider who use it insanes ,blind people .The society that ignored bitcoin has already cryed to not be able to be part of bitcoin,we are small in number but we can do anything with bitcoin they can do with fiat.

well it is not that hard to just use it from time to time, you just need to know how bitcoin wallet works and you need to know how numbers actually work and thats it in my opinion

Your situation sounds rare.  Most people don't get paid in bitcoin and I'm not sure most people would choose to.  The value of your paycheck could drop 20% overnight.

Yeah totally depends on the value of bitcoin if price is high you earn more and if price drops then only god can help you to survive.

i think is something great to use bitcoin for me bitcoin open for me the door for shopping online and it help me learn how to trade to gain skills i will do anything and i don't think the one who use bitcoin is stupid just make a close look to the price of btc and you will know the succes of it.

Dear! Bitcoin is much interesting and attractive currency, anyone will redaily adopt it when they know about its earning, usage and features. The only thing we need is to spread the news of bitcoin to all those who are unaware with it.

i was using paypal for paying things online, everything i paid on internet i used paypal then some of my friends recommended me to try bitcoin, and i was suprising it's very cheap, simple, you don't need to verivicate your account,of course no one can't limit or froze your money,withdrawable to fiat 24 hours/ 7 days ,so right now i only use bitcoin, never using other payment processor aymore
the point is when peoples get in to the bitcoin for the first time, they will not move on from it

Not everyone has a good use for bitcoin. Not everyone does online transactions, not everyone cares about privacy and security and most importantly not everyone cares about disruptive innovation. Many people would rather use their bank's services out of the convenience of not having to seek for alternatives.

People are accustomed to things they have been doing for a long time. Bitcoin is no exception here as many don't believe in its usefulness in doing online business with digital money and still prefer to use their bank accounts and credit cards because they are afraid to try new things and change their methods. I think calling the Bitcoin pioneers stupid is a little bit too much though. Yeah the value of Bitcoin could change overnight but it is not the end of the world if one has 100$ in coins just for fun right? It's like going to the bar on two Fridays. I mean come on  ;D

i am quite sure in some (probably most) cases, it's that they are too stupid. this is how things work. most people are stupid and buy into [stocks, technology, etc] long after its largest gains have already been made. even so, we don't need most people to use bitcoin for it to succeed.

Yeah I also suggest that you do not use your bitcoin right now. Try to save them so you can sell them at a profit. Why people use their bitcoins to buy some stuff is something I cannot understand.

Its just your own opinion, everyone has his own mind to use bitcoin, just like me, now i m using bitcoins and it is profitable for me, i have used bitcoins in different types of online working, i also invest it and i also hold my bitcoins for halving, and i m sure i will be get profit from bitcoins, so how i m stupid.?

i kinda agree with this. if you ask people; what exactly is bitcoin? some of them answer with; i bought it because it will grow in the future and i will make a lot profit. if you ask them the same question again, but then more serious, they will admit that they don't know what it is. there are plenty of easy to understand 'how bitcoin works' and 'what is bitcoin' videos on youtube. just a simple search will be enough to find them.

They dont need to understand how the existing monetary system works because they have inherited it and learnt throughout their growing years.When I first heard about internet,I had lots of questions and confusion because it was a completely new thing to me and had to do lots of reading and research.Now my 12 years old nephew knows all about it without any trouble that I went through to understand it

It is not that bad to us Bitcoin now around this time, you have only to choose the right moment to sell your but that is the hardest thing to know when you are want to sell your coins, it is hard to make that choice.
There are a lot of people that has made an investment in Bitcoin but they are waiting a long time to get some good profit with Bitcoin so please wait a bit longer.

To use or not to use Bitcon is not a question of "stupidity" but some peole are very cautious and some are not well informed. Some are not very good with investing or other business options so you can't blame them. More education, more simple and acceptable information about good (and bad) sides of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies could help it.

Wrong, by this logic it would mean that gold should be dead because no one uses gold as a currency, only as an investment, and the other use cases are anecdotal, most of the gold is keep hoarded as a safe haven to hedge against a collapsing fiat economy. In this sense, Bitcoin can reach trillion of dollars of marketcap by this usage alone. Of course, if it's used in everyday transactions, that's cool too.

Stop comparing Bitcoin to gold. Gold has thousands & thousands years of history on Bitcoin, that's some first-mover advantage. And gold supply is not randomly and artificially limited, as is the case with Bitcoin.
A far better analogy (both in essence and timeframe) is BTCeanie BTCabies (https://bitcointalk.org/wiki/Beanie_Babies#Collectibility): deliberately limited supply, impractical to use as money, were hoarded because "will maek me milionair!!!"

People are too lazy to search for information about how Bitcoin works.

They just know enough to farm faucets and cash it all out to fiat, and that's enough for them.

If they at some point get seriously interested in Bitcoin, then they most likely will start to search for information.

I do not think they are stupid, I think its more that they are scared of the bitcoin they are scared that the bitcoin is gonna collapse or something.
Although a part is also thinking its difficult if they are using it they understand it pretty fast and every piece is than falling in the right hole.

I think they do not like to change and eventually they do quarrel that is not useful, but I have hopes that each of them could understand clearly about Bitcoin and not taking directly from the talk of someone who just gave the statement is not true. I've heard that there is talk that Bitcoin is a field for the mafia and used for illegal transactions.

It's bitcoin's job to accommodate people like that. They're not gonna change or educate themselves. If bitcoin can't adapt to them then it's not going anywhere.

Well bitcoin must be spend otherwise there is no meaning to have something that wont spend.I believe this is a good moment to start some projects,as the price should go up soo you will be getting bitcoin for a cheap ammount .

No that is not true, you can see that Bitcoin is good to use and that there are a lot of people that loves to use Bitcoin because it will be the next generation payment method.

This is just not the time to be spending your bitcoins. The price is changing and it is going up. You should save your bitcoins right now at wait for the price to go up even more. Then you could sell.

i agree, on top of all the bitcoin being new technology and people being lazy to change, all these bad publicity that the media has been making for bitcoin has been hurtful and kept bitcoin from being more adopted that this.

Well some people just don't have the need to use Bitcoin as a payment method because they are happy with their banking service. I mean most of the Bitcoin users are mainly into Bitcoin because of its long-term value as an investment vehicle whatsoever.

Gold is manipulated and most people own paper that tells them they have gold not actual physical bars.
Like it or not gold will always be compared to bitcoin because there are similar aspects.

Its true but in fact I think more than 20% do not even know how the bitcoin started and why it has been started.
I think if we could educate new people remotely and force them to know what the bitcoin is and why it is a currency and why its good, and not just for the halving it would be much better.

I even think the community will get a boost from this.

I consider this as a real problem but I think its not laying at the people honestly I think its also our own problem that we made, due to the fact we attracted friends/family but never really explained it good too them and I think we can because of that blame ourselves for it.

Some people are too stupid to use bitcoin, sure. But not all. Some are just too lazy to take the time to figure out what it is, how to acquire it and how to use it.

I think there are others who feel like they've missed out on getting into bitcoin because they feel the price has gone to the heights it has and for whatever reason, they think that they can't afford to buy any significant amount now.

Correct. Bitcoin has proven itself to be working and currently unbreakable. Trusting the math behind it right now is no different than trusting that 2+2 = 4 (if one could phrase it this way). Besides, even if you'd explain the math to people, I'm certain that less than 1% would understand it.

People are not stupid, they are scared of smth new to try. When i heard about bitcoin first time on my head was things like "lame, don't work, etc."

I believe those who are investing now can get a good reward after the readjustment that bitcoin will get till end the year soo its the moment to invest is now.

people dont like doing new things and are easily maniupalted by the media in the actions that they take. People are unwilling to learn new knowledge by themselves and would rather be led to beleive false fake info.

I think maybe he was talking about the fact that it is hard to understand what is the right way to buy and store bitcoins.  It can be confusing even when looking at all the different possible wallets and exchange sites that you could possibly end up using. 

Just know that when using bitcoin wallets and that sort of thing, you want to be in control of your private keys.  There will be certain web wallets that want you to sign in with an email or something of the sort and then you can access your wallet.  That's pretty sketchy, and if anything happens to the website (i.e. Xapo, Circle, Coinbase, etc. etc.) then your bitcoins go down with the site.  There are plenty of "good" wallets that allow you to control your private keys directly (i.e. breadwallet, mycellium, etc. etc.) and you can have them on your phone... then there are things you can do to go "tinfoil hat" secure by doing offline wallets and that sort of thing.  Point just being, that you want to control your private keys... usually if that's the case and either remember the key (or pneumonic seed) or just write it down somewhere, then you'll be fine.

As for exchanges... there are also a lot of options, and can be used with what you prefer to deal with.  If you're looking for super convenient... then coinbase or circle could be where you want to go (if you're located in the US).  If you want some anonymity, you can buy from other people directly through localbitcoins.  Also you might be lucky and find a Bitcoin ATM around you if you are located in a pretty big city.

Just research it for a little while and you'll find what things are best suited for you.

yeah they are not stupid, as you said people are afraid to invest in riskier things. if someone goes for trading without good experience there may be a chance to lose their money, this is true for gambling and some ponzi games.

It is not that stupid to use Bitcoin now around this time, because you can see that the value is now stable so it is not that bad but you have to wait indeed a long time for a price increase.
But the most people dont have the patience for it and than they will sell it too early.

That's not the point of this thread whether bitcoin is stupid. It's that people are too stupid. I disagree. The biggest issue with the masses is bitcoin doesn't really offer them anything so why use it? Sure we could argue it's a good investment and there's money to be made but for those who bought in at 1000 dollars are still in a massive loss so it's not a risk free investment.

i think its make sense,nowdays are not too good and easy to use bitcoin,its have so many problem there,people and device problem is the main problem. and i not wonder if people on bar not care about crypto currency,they wont care about anything you talk about ;D

I also believe that people use Bitcoin in their own way. And they are free to do so as Bitcoin offers people the freedom to use it the way they want. Some people are only interested in earning as many coins as possible to have a nice bonus on top of their normal income. For this they don't have to know a lot about Bitcoin regarding using Bitcoin for other purposes. It's basically the most simple form of Bitcoin usage.

I think it's reasonable when you first hear about new things. then you're going to try to protect yourself. but if you want to find out what it bitcoin. I'm sure you will be convinced with bitcoin and immediately try it.
people are so lazy to find out what it bitcoin. so they have not been able to join and use bitcoin

this is why i think we need paper btc reciepts/wallets
that people can see and touch

shop would just scan and transfer funds
(checking for any pending transactions etc. to validate)

I'm one of old ones, I'm not afraid to use new technology and I don't think I'm too stupid to use it. But I have big questions about bitcoin and at this stage no answers. I think bitcoin is great idea and even a better one blockchain. Where can I ask such questions? Here? In another part of this forum?

Ok first one (easy): Bitcoin and blockchain are relaying on miners, so the miners must be rewarded for the "job" and expenses. As far as know the mining at this stage is for some people with big machines, lot of resources, etc. what is going to happen with time and the reward is getting smaller and smaller? And when it reaches the limit of bitcoin creation? Are the fees going to be "too expensive"?
I know  ;) are three questions but related to the same topic, more to come...

+1 to this. People hate to learn. They only listen to things that they want to hear. They will never believe you that you can earn money online by doing some work and earn bitcoin. And even if you get to believe them, they are most probably will not be interested at all.

Guys you have to entertain the idea that some people just don't have the need or the desire to use another payment method like Bitcoin even though Bitcoin's advantages are far surpassing other payment processors. There are wealthy people who are just happy with their platinum credit cards and don't care about low fees. Everyone I know who is into Bitcoin does it for the money. What if there are people who are already so well-off that they simply don't care?

I agree. Rich people didn't care about transaction fees or such. And fiat credit cards is easier to use everywhere rather than bitcoin.

Something I want people in this topic to know, we aren't here because we are smarter than other people. There are others who don't use Bitcoin who are smarter than us. This shouldn't be some fedora-tipping "Ah those people are have inferior logic to my absolute knowledge" thread.

A lot of it comes down to who is interested in taking the risk or who is willing to inconvenient themselves to try something new. It has very little to do with the intelligence of a person.

Bitcoin is very complex, but if you can make a nice lightweight GUI wallet for it like Electrum for PC or Breadwallet for android, then even a 5 year old can understand it.

It's funny how people who point out flaws in the system (or anything else for that matter) always fail to see the flaws in their own reasoning. It think it's just that people are too lazy to work out all of the implications of their proposed solutions and are too self-important to care. They find something they deem ideal and then just put on their blinders so that they only see the advantages their idea would bring. They don't seem to care that unless a solution is perfect, resolving any single issue means that somewhere else something that was working okay will break.

I would not call people stupid cause of they, mostly of them, still don't use bitcoin or any other crypto currency. It's more because people bad informed about it and all the system of crypto currencies. That is the main problem. People are not stupid but I guess they just lack important information and absorption of what bitcoin is. Secondly many are afraid to use bitcoins because they lack knowledge. The best thing to do right now is to wait until cryptocurrency is being absorbed and accepted by the masses. Before that time comes well just purchase more bitcoins because when they realize what is bitcoin is they will purchase and it will lead to an increase price in bitcoin.

People don't have to be software engineers or have a degree in the IT field in order to use Bitcoin and understand how the Blockchain works. One can get a new wallet running and grasp the essential aspects of Bitcoin in 1 hour or so if they have the desire to actually learn new things. I guess older people will have problems figuring out new concepts but it's not like Bitcoin is super hard to get into.

The situation with Bitcoin in these times really reminds me of the early nineties when I was on the Internet. The reaction I got from people when I mentioned I used the Internet was exactly the same as it is now, with BTC.

The only reaction I get is either total suprise that BTC is still around and being used or total disgust (have only heard negative mainstram stories).

What incentive is there for a regular person to use Bitcoin at present? As far as I can tell somewhere around none. I wouldn't call a non user stupid when there's absolutely nothing to compel them to use it. It needs to become a no brainer.

I don't think there is any problem in using bitcoin and if you are scared to transfer it to your bank account for the reason of taxes then I think you can easily sell it for cash to avoid bank transactions.

It all depends on how risky you want to be and how much you're willing to try and sneak through your tax form, or keep from anyone knowing of at all.

I don't know why someone would be scared to transfer their funds to a bank account once they exchange their Bitcoin for fiat, unless they live in a Bitcoin-hostile country. Most countries are fine with bitcoin overall, and I'm not sure why there'd be an issue.

Well I agree with you man. With using bitcoin we are anonymous. We have better returns in our investment than that of the bank's interest rate. And finally it is easier to deposit in bitcoin not like in bank that you need to fall in line just to deposit and a hassle to withdraw.

Yes, that's right. We need to promote Bitcoin, needed positive propaganda and possibly a massive debates and press conferences. People need to evolve in the technical field. But I fear that the older generation, the grandparents do not want this, they used to live in the old and new technology scares them.

And i think our main villain is the government theyre realy criticizing bitcoin because they dont want their economic flow will replinish by it and government knows bitcoins are used for fraud and any other illegal activies out there thats why some other countries banneds it from using, but really if bitcoin will successfully adopt surely many transactions will be easily done and surely people will get more benifits for the said technology.

If we are on this forum and we will see lots about Bitcoin but in reality and in real life, very few people know about bitcoin. We need a massive media programme to introduce this digital coin to the Masses.

But old people don't need to use Bitcoin or earn it because they have already a lot of fiat saved in their bank accounts and pension fund accounts. Also you are focusing our attention on Bitcoin being an online gig to earn some quick cash when in reality Bitcoin can be much more than that. If we could convince even the older generations that Bitcoin has its advantages over the fiat system the adoption battle will be half won already. However the Bitcoin market currently is mostly suited for speculators and younger computer geeks so that's that for now. People who use fiat don't need to use Bitcoin but people who use Bitcoin need to use fiat as well. If people would like to use Bitcoin and fiat the Bitcoin adoption will surge globally.

Bitcoin is only for speculation and fiat for real world purposes. Bitcoin confirmations take so much time. imagine people trying to pay groceries in rush hour super market with bitcoin...

Bitcoin has a system that is best, in my opinion the level of confirmation in any transaction is very normal and it will not negatively affect. So the problem of confirmation in the bitcoin wouldn't be bad for us in the future. because it is now experiencing an increase in the number of bitcoin transactions.

If you are talking about the delay in confirmation time then its not a big deal as it will be resolved in coming years, and if you hold coins then you should surely spend those coins.

i wouldnt say people are too stupid to use bitcoin right now, more just a case of them having no reason or motivation to learn to use bitcoin because it doesnt benefit them. if they thought it would turn them into a millionaire over night then they would pick up how to use it very quickly7. But at the moment there is no reason for them to make an actual effort to learn.

That is one issue with bitcoins. We cannot use it on real time physical groceries stores because of confirmation times delay but then again it is also not available in physical stores yet.

I think this issue will be resolved in future so there is nothing to worry about delay in confirmation, and at this stage its good to hold coins instead of spending it.

How many people understand how it works when you swipe your debit or credit card and pay for items? I don't. I just insert the card and enter the pin code and wallah the items are paid for. The complexity in finance is already there. THe only non-complex thing is actual cash in notes and coins. It's very simple to understand, and it works quite well. [it isn't broken]. Cash will only be broken when it is completely banned or becomes obsolete as blockchains take over. There is a reason why all the crypto is called "coin". I don't think that there is any risk in investing in bitcoin, but if you invest in any online site then you need to be very careful as there are many ponzi sites around at a moment which can scam you in long run.

Halving is in next few days but you should not be disappointed as bitcoin will allow you to make profits regularly and next halving will be after 4 years so you should start preparing yourself for that.

I am sorry I have to disagree with this.  The issue is that there are not enough people who know about this and the ones who do know about bitcoin do not understand how to use it.  In my opinion, this is because there are not enough businesses that accept Bitcoin as payment.  Once there is more acceptance of Bitcoin, there will be more use for it and more people will make use of it.

Yup. I had one friend who's really not into tech stuff and he asked me what bitcoin is about. Of course, I was more than willing to talk him on it but he kind of lost interest because of the complexity of sending bitcoins from wallet to wallet as he didn't quite understand it well.

It's a fact that bitcoin is not grandma friendly but for people that know about IT and technology they should know some concepts at least they are familiar with bitcoin as beginners by making simple transactions.
But pushing transaction, seeds, and other troubleshoot need some advance knowledge.

I started Bitcoin maybe a month ago.  I can say that Bitcoin is not ready for average person right now.  There's just so much read and learn before using it. 

Although I think the title can be rephrased as "Bitcoin is not for stupid people yet.."

My regret is i had invested around 1btc, i hadnt waited for the halving, my project were going well till price start going up again, everytime the price jumps the income i get becames lower always. Im happy as i got a daily income doing nothing im near to roi from my investment in ammount of bitcoins, but i dont know how long the project will stand as price keeps growing.

It's not that people are too stupid to use btc right now, I think most folks aren't really ready for the level of security required to be your own bank. People are kind of haphazard because of ach; if you can prove your money was taken fraudulently, usually you can get the transaction reversed. This makes people very cavalier about keeping a tight ship, once it's gone in Bitcoin, it's gone. I notice the people hemorrhage personal details on social media that can be used to socially engineer one's way into their accounts via customer service. No one believes in privacy anymore :(

That's true but there are also those people who are too afraid to spend their coins and wouldn't spend their coins at all because they are always hoping for the value to go up. In the end, they won't be able to spend it and those coins are just stuck there for however long.

As for me, I spend at most 20% of my total monthly bitcoin earnings and save 80% and let them accumulate. When the price hits $1000, I'd spend them all. I swear.

Bitcoin transaction times are so long it's not useable for real world commercial purposes. I use paypal when I have to sell or buy something and when I want to gamble and speculate I use bitcoin for that.

Yeah there should be an good combination of saving and spending, both are important, spend some of them regularly and sell them when price reaches to your expected level.

this seems right,average transaction could getting confirmed in 10-15 minutes if it's in normal condition,but this problem can be solved if the merchants   just processing transaction with 0 confirmation but the merchant will take the risk and facing people who will possibly trick the merchant with double spending

you don't really need to know everything about security and bitcoin in order to use bitcoin, you can always use a web wallet if you are a newbie or don't want to learn about it. a service like coinbase is making things newbie frinedly enough.

We can see that volume gets higher and higher,but pretty funny thing i have observed,was that about 2-3 days
just before halving,i have seen the volume getting lower and lower,and i still think it was because of people holding their coin's to sell them,after spike which many of them was predicting (freshly after halving) :)

Bitcoin is not very common to regular people and I agree with you since in our place only few people and around 20 people knew bitcoin and only 4 of us are engaging in bitcoin. They just dont know the importance of bitcoin and the other is the access to internet and many have no computers. Aside from no access to internet there are nobody selling bitcoins in our area so thats what explain why only a few do bitcoins in our place.

I won't use the word stupid, I think they just don't know the benefits and do not really see a need to for it. I mean why use something invisible when I can use something visible, the exchange fees of buying bitcoins (some as high as 20%) makes others draw back and look for alternative means of sending money abroad like Skrill, Neteller and the likes.

People aren't stupid, they just don't care enough to shift to Bitcoin. Fighting the government, anonymity, saving bits and pieces here and there on fees? who cares about that? They can already do everything that would be possible with Bitcoin with their regular currencies. In fact they can do a lot more with dollars than they would be able to with Bitcoin, why would they go through the hassle to changing dollars to Bitcoin just to be able to do less?

We know about that, just basically theory for that the company having a lot of officers and the company is hang up their income to paid their officer and one of them is via charge from the transaction through their service. and for a long distance transaction, it needs a lot of their service and that will make a charge so much for the transaction.

it does not mean that they are fool because they have join and using bitcoin. it mean that as the price of bitcoin is going to increase then why should one withdraw their bitcoin to use for shopping or any other activity. he want people to stay for the profit.

Bitcoin is a global currency. It can be spent on different things if the companies accept payment in bitcoins. But currently bitcoin is more of a investment than currency. So many people feel it is stupid to spend the bitcoins.

If only bitcoin devs got nintendo to go bitcoin only payments for the transactions of purchases in the game. The price would be back up to $1200 in that instant they sign the contract.

yes in present time i am agree with you but i think if the price of bitcoin remain stable then if some one is using its bitcoin for their daily need so he has the right and he is not a stupid person.

i think the question is not in the sense that why are people using bitcoin. but i think that he want people to hold their bitcoin. because it is mostly expected that the price of bitcoin will increase so high in next few day. therefore they should wait for few more days.

Actually there is a high level of stupidity in the human behavior these days, but I don't think all that people using bitcoins right now are precisely stupid persons. Perhaps in 20 years, when bitcoin price will be $1, all present bitcoin holders will regret their excessive confidence too late.

yeah. bitcoin do not have border it is a universal currency and for it the world is a one village and with that you will send and recieve to part of the world with the same fees and it do allow almost all of the countries of the world.

actually i think there is no stupidity involved in bitcoin not using bitcoin. the fact is that they don't have to use bitcoin because they are satisfied with fiat right now and don't care for a change.

besides using bitcoin may be better in many cases but it certainly not easy to use by regular Joe and on top of that there is no place they can use bitcoin.

This is not too bad about bitcoin  time now, maybe you need to be patient and pick the right time to sell your bitcoin but it is the most difficult thing to know when you are going to sell bitcoin , because bitcoin prices will change every time . there are many people out there who have made investments bitcoin and now they're waiting for the right time to sell bitcoin in order to get some good profits with bitcoin . so you just need to be patient and wait a little longer .

Nothing strange that people are afraid that's new and their minds are too narrow to use bitcoins instead of fiat money. However I believe that bitcoins will be main currency for the future generations.

Bitcoin is too user unfriendly in its present form. Webwallets and payment services will change that, look how far coinbase has come in popularizing bitcoin (because it's relatively simple to use). Security is the other half. Bitcoin is too permanent for the average user, once it's gone, it's gone.

yeah I think you need to know what the difference bitcoin of other currencies. you should know the benefits or advantages of bitcoin in the field of currency or payment. i think every one has their own choice. either they want to hold their bitcion or use it. so we can no concern with that. therefore it is not good to call them stupid. but we can only suggest them that the present time is the best time holding the bitcoin.

Yup, I also experienced it when you first get to know and hear the words of the Bitcoin. But after I grew to learn my bitcoin, greatly helped by the emergence of the bitcoin. I agree that Coinbase makes things easier, but at the same time giving a company like Coinbase control of your bitcoins defeats a large part of the purpose of bitcoin.

But still coinbase did a good thing. Proof is look at the users wallet id's here. I would like 70 percent of people here are using it. And this company takes it to the higher level.

I don't think we can call them stupid for not using Bitcoin.. it's their choice, their money. Most of the people I have asked (I mean all of them) about Bitcoin didn't know a single thing about it, so I had to tell the same story tens of times for them to find out about it, and since they heard the benefits I told them, they are using Bitcoin too. We can't call them stupid for not knowing what Bitcoin is. We just need a guy here to create some addictive thing like Pokemon GO about Bitcoins, so people will download it, find about Bitcoin and the number of people using BTC will skyrocket.

It's not really wrong to give credit to coinbase's contribution to bitcoin as it has indeed taken it up to a higher level. Coinbase promotes bitcoin, bitcoin highly promotes coinbase. Proof is that when you look at bitcoin.com, coinbase is their #1 wallet.

though i doubt it will be a hardware wallet, in my opinion on googleplay store there are only online wallets and thats it, i think there are no hardware wallets on phone

The average person find bitcoin too complicated and well yeah we can't blame them honestly.
The hashes makes it not real as cash money is which is why a lot of people are giving up after a few tries. If this will not change, adoption will wait a long time.

I often hear people around me saying "If I can't hold it in my hands, it's not real money". They however forget that the majority of their transactions happen with internet banking where the money they have on their bank accounts are just a few numbers on their screen, untill they withdraw them via an ATM. This makes no sense, if you wanna get something from bitcoin, besides being a faucet claimer or a exchanger, you need to invest bitcoins to be able over the period to get some income from it, otherwise you will need to be buying bitcoin all months. You can choose the free income or the potencial earning with your investment.

Coinbase is only useful up to a certain point, as eventually, you'll be educated enough in Bitcoin to realize that you'll need a paper or hardware wallet to securely store large amounts of Bitcoin. Other than that, there's a reason why Coinbase is supported by Bitcoin.com- it's probably the most user-friendly of all the wallets out there.

Nowadays we really need all of the users to use bitcoin as a normal currency for their use, as with that bitcoin will get a strong image in the world market and will get some strength, and with that it will have a chance to become a global currency.

This is a correct suggestion, maybe in the future the price will always going up and until that moment better to hold them in the storage or growing up your bitcoin and waiting the best moment you can selling your bitcoin.

welp 99% of all people have no idea about block explorer/block chain/txid/nodes/forking or not, when these kind of technicality stuff surface people start to back down, because not every one is going to be an expert in knowing everything about crypto.

I think the people who say 'dumb use bitcoin' are people who do not understand the use of bitcoin. because most people do not fully always in the world of internet .. just a few people who know and understand the use of bitcoin and the benefits received from the bitcoin. if they are familiar with bitcoin then they would say maybe "there is gold on the internet '' :)

I tried recruiting some people and join the Bitcoin community, they can understand the basics (mostly) but I always have to spoon feed them. I don't think people like that belong to this community. I mean, like, if you can't use Google, why should you enter the game of Bitcoins, right?

I don't think there is any stupidity in using bitcoin, is fiat using stupidity? We use them when we need to buy anything or in case of any emergencies, same goes with bitcoin too as after all its also a money that is meant to be spent.

i am saying constantly that people are dump, lazy and ignorant. so many people are using fiat everyday, but have very little understanding how it works. bitcoin is much more complex so they have even less understanding for it. even here on this forum i see so many wrong statements about bitcoin, that i doubt it will become a bigger thing that it already is. yes, i do not know all and can also be wrong, but i try to learn everyday and keep an open mind, but some of the things i read from so called experts are just frightening.

I am not spending at a moment but I surely use it on trading as that is the place from where I can gain profits and also the amount of coins keeps on increasing on continuous basis.
