We've just finished developing our first (of many to come) Bitcoin WordPress plugin. This particular one was inspired by the original Bitcoin Gem script.

Concept

The idea is pretty simple - visitors on your site purchase your designated Game Object (in the demo, we use a ruby) for a particular price, hoping someone buys it again after them to make a profit. At a random interval (or if no purchases happen within a timeframe), a purchase will trigger a reset and the Game Object will go back to it’s starting point.

The unfortunate soul who’s purchase triggered the reset (all publically verifiably random with math) won’t own the Game Object anymore, so whatever they paid goes to you as the site owner to keep.

This plugin is fully documented with a convenient startup wizard, and allows for near infinite customization of how you want to run your chain game. Rather than continue to write on and on about what it can do and how it’s amazing, I’ll just post screenshots for your viewing pleasure.

FAQs

Does the plugin run on your own site, or hosted by bc4wp.com

The wordpress plugins we make are just that - plugins to be used inside of your own WordPress site installation. That means you can install this plugin like any normal WordPress plugin and have it work on your own remote site, completely separate from bc4wp.com's domain.

What is included in the purchase?

Other than the plugin files themselves, lifetime support of the plugin as well as updates to it are included.

Also included in the purchase is an infinite-domain license, so you can install it on as many sites as you'd like.

Can I add features to it if I want?

Technically yes, however it's best if you communicate those to us so we can implement them as options for you in newer versions. If you do custom edits to the plugin, any time we push an update it will overwrite any customizations you've made.

The theme of the public game page however can be completely themed and customized to your liking and won't be changed by any updates we push.

What is needed to get a site up and running with this plugin?

To make use of the WordPress plugin, you must first have a site running on WordPress.

There are several tutorials to do this, but in a nutshell you a) buy hosting (generally shared hosting like hostmonster/hostgator), b) upload wordpress files or use hosting company's provided 1-click install, c) add the bc4wp.com Bitcoin Chain plugin to your site either by the standard ftp method or the simpler provided "Add New" option in the plugin section of your wp-admin area.

What do I have to do to setup a wallet for this?

The easiest way is to make yourself a wallet at http://blockchain.info/ since the plugin uses their apis to handle the purchases, payments, and reset verification. While it's not neccessary to have a wallet hosted there, it's easier when it comes to the payout settings.

For the payout settings (screenshot above) you can either use your blockchain.info account credentials or provide the private hash of a non-blockchain.info wallet. The nitty gritty details can be found here of how that works: http://blockchain.info/api/blockchain_wallet_api

Do I have to run BitcoinID on my server?

Negative! I had thought about doing something like that, but it would be an unnecessary hassle. To keep the plugin as upload-n'-use friendly as possible, we use the blockchain.info api to handle the behind-the-scenes calls and data receivers.

Their api is very fast and allows us to make use of their own BitcoinID process (if that's what they use? not sure.).

How does the site owner profit from this?

1. Reset Odds

This is the most common way the site owner profits. As the chain gets higher and higher, the price naturally increases (by whatever % you set). Every so often - again at a % you can set - a purchase will trigger a reset of the chain, causing them to lose ownership of the Game Object.

Since they no longer own it, the next person to purchase it (now that it's reset to the starting price - configurable), the system never has to pay the person who triggered the reset since they don't own it any longer. In essence that means the buy price of whoever resets the Game Object is your profit.

2. Purchase Delay

The other way the site owner profits is when the elapsed time since the previous purchase has expired due to no new purchases. This timeframe is configurable and acts the same way as a reset.

Pretty interesting concept. How does the site owner derive any revenue from this? Does not seem to be addressed in the FAQ.

I think the underlying concept has a ton of potential.

For example, on the website then a content owner could have certain ad spaces for gifs or jpgs of specified sizes and destination URLs. Then advertisers could outbid each other to 'own' the space for a certain amount of time or until they are outbid. This would automate one's ad selling and introduce and auction component.

I think there needs to be a little more certainty for the advertisers as to what the cost and potential ROI will be along with terms; like expiration period, etc. If terms are well defined and the long-tail losses are eliminated then it has the potential to automatically optimize the advertising revenue. Of course, content owners would need to have the option of 'canceling' or 'approving' particular purchases (get adult, gambling, etc. type jpgs off their site if they want).

If the plugin were free, perhaps it directs a % of each purchase to a particular address?, then it could be pretty widely adopted.

Review:  BITCOIN CHAIN WORDPRESS PLUG-IN

The overall simplicity and design of the  bc4wp's Bitcoin Chain Plug-in is very well written.  The concept of the WordPress plug-in is similiar to other designs on other websites; however,  this was much easier to use because of the built-in instructions. The built-in help of the bc4wp's Bitcoin Chain plug-in is very unique and was done in an easy step-by-step process for someone just beginning WordPress.  The overall process easily moves you from step to step.  If you get stuck, all you have to do is go back to the built in help and review what steps you have missed using the check-off boxes.  The best instructions ever!!  The plug-in works exactly as advertised.

The sign-up procedure and the purchase of the plug-in was smooth and hassle-free.  The purchasing process was fast and efficient.  Registration was very easy with no problems.  The product was sent to me in a timely fashion.

John personally kept in contact with me for several days to make sure everything was working properly.  Because I was new to WordPress and how to use it, I asked John for his expertise in this area.  John took his personal time to help me correct my mistakes and to make a custom layout for my website.  John personally helped me to make sure that my website was up and running 100% and with no problems/issues. Yes, this is what bitcoin is for, too. Bitcoin is for people to do want they want to do and have a method of money transaction that supports it.  The thought that bitcoins is only "for" things that you approve of is laughable.

And I never really agree with MPOE-PR but this time she is completely right it the dumbest idea, ever and just hurting us when VC's look at this community. People playing it didn't make 25 BTC, the people running it did. At the expensive of the ones playing the game. Do you understand how a pyrmid scheme works? No new money is created? Suckers at the end make the profit for those at the bottom and the owner of the scam.

No, the confused one here is you.  I own one of these games, I know exactly what it makes and what the players make.  The players make double what I make.

Typically, we have 1 loser for every round and several winners.  Even on BitCoin Gem, they have 5% of the players lose, 95% win.

The Gem calls it's players owners, as in, "Current Owner of the Gem".  So, when they say "owners made 25 btc", that means that the players made 25 btc from playing.  The owner of the site has made considerably less, as he is only getting 5% of the purchase price.

Regardless, people like it and have fun playing it.  Every gamble has to have losers.  These games have less losers and more winners than almost every other gambling site out there.  And the odds vs payouts are far better than just about anything else, too.

So, stop hating, and let people do what they want.

Your implication that everyone who buys the gem is 'buying the gem' is not accurate. Some might be more interested in the advertising than the gem. Advertising is usually bought expecting a sunk cost but some other benefits such as traffic, etc.

In the very first post, it is said that the house, can restart the game at any time. The house takes the profit in that case. If it's just reset, everyone else is paying for it.

95% winners at a 1.1% payout? How about Satoshi dice. The house edge is 1.9% and you pick your odds and keep playing. That's a real game of chance like a casino, not a pyramid scam.

Let's see, SD's odds for 1.1x payout are between 85% and 91%.  At 91%, it is 1.07x payout. Did you study basic math in high school?  91% is less than 95%

So, I'll say it again, find a game with better odds vs payouts.  95% at 1.1x payout is excellent.

I can't believe you think that you have a 1.1 payout at 95% odds. The house edge is what matters. If you play less than 8 statistically you'll only lose 98% of your money. If you play your game, you'll lose only 5% of your money. It's also a pyramid scam, not a game of chance based on mathematics.

Look at the payouts on the Gem.  5% lost, 95% won.  Those are the actual odds of winning vs losing. The payout for the Gem is 1.1x.

So, again, show me a game where there is 1.1X payout where 95% of the people play win that payout.

Those aren't the odds, those are when it's being reset. At any given time, the pyrmaid can be reset. You can't "bet" any amount you want. You pay the person in the pyramid scam exactly 1.1x what they paid and hope the game isn't reset.

It can't and isn't reset at any time. There are specific conditions for it being reset.  For the Gem, they do an odds-based random generator, like Satoshi Dice, plus an idle time limit.  Other games, like BitBears don't have the random reset, but do have an idle time limit.

Show us where the game was reset arbitrarily that didn't follow those conditions, and you might have a point.

I agree that riding on somebody else's idea is nothing to be too proud of, on the other hand I think having a few more of these sites is a good thing for the players who like this kind of game, since they spend a lot of time waiting for transactions or while the game is in the slow, "high" price range where the items sit idle until reset. This excludes players who only want to play with small amounts and wait for the resets to happen.
So I'll just jump right into the fray and post another site built with the plugin advertised in this thread and my experiences with it, since that's what the thread is for.

Since the game is played at the cost of the person last in line and most discussion regarding these games revolves around this fact, the Bitcoin Crown seeks to soothe that person's pain as much as it can with its limited funds right now: The one who resets the crown will be refunded 20% of what he lost.

Regarding the plugin: I could download and activate it a few minutes after the purchasing process and get started. If you already have a webserver (preferrably with cron job support, f.e. Cpanel) and a fresh wordpress installed, the "hard" part is already over. Setting up the plugin is very convenient as it comes with a built-in tutorial which leads you through the progress step-by-step, right inside the wordpress admin environment. The instructions are detailed (including screenshots) and easy to understand.

I was surprised how smooth the plugin was running right after setup. It works just like you can see on the screenshot and on the site example. Since I did not have a lot of experience with webservers and wordpress, most of my questions, problems and time spent revolved around setting up those basics instead of the plugin, and John (presumably Anzy here) still went out of his way to help me with all of them. Most of the time he answered me within mere minutes. It was an overall very pleasant experience! It is also good to know that the plugin is being maintained and updated as well. This happens automatically inside your wordpress and gives you some additional feeling of safety.

If you are considering running such a site but have a few insecurities, this is your chance, since you will get more support here than you would expect.

As for the rest of the thread, I must have had notifications turned off by accident; seems we have quite the discussion (debate?) going on here about Bitcoin gambling sites.

While I genuinely have no interest in running one myself (I'm terrible at marketing & site design; have you noticed? : P), I do thoroughly enjoy coding things up that other folks want and fine useful. I see that there is a desire for sites like this, and understandably so - they're kinda neat.

Not that it's entirely relevant to the discussion that's developed, but if anyone has feature requests do let me know - they can be implemented that same day : )

My review on the plugin:

My initial thought about the plugin, is that this could be really cool, and a good way to make money. Sure enough, my site started earning money from the first day! The purchase process was extremely smooth. I was given access to the plugin very shortly after my payment was confirmed. Installing the plugin was the easiest thing ever. The plugin is provided in a .zip file, so I just logged into the admin panel, and used the upload plugin feature. This is where I was blown away. The setup of the plugin was breeze. As long as you follow the instructions that are included inside the plugin, you should be fine! John (the dev) was helpful whenever I had a problem. Not only that, but he is a very honest guy. When the plugin ran into a bug, it ended up paying out twice to one of the players. When I reported this to John, he promptly patched the bug, updated the plugin, AND reimbursed me for the loss! If you decide on whether or not to buy the plugin just based on John's level of character and honesty, you should have no reason not to make the purchase. John's a good guy, he'll take care of you! Finally, would I recommend this to someone else, as a legitimate and beneficial product? Legit? Definitely! Beneficial? If that's what you call making money!

A quick question, as far as you know, are at this point (5/24/2013) any legal issues running the plugin on a US server serving worldwide gambling audiences?

Do you have any recommendations for the server location?
