Notice the fact that a day before, it went down too.... And then it went up. FLUCTUATIONS? AAAH IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD!

Protip: "SELL SELL SELL" causes a price crash.

Protip: "SELL SELL SELL" causes a price crash.

Protip: overpriced valuations causes a price crash.

Not that that's what we're in, but that is the root cause.

Yea this is just fluctuations, think the crash, if it comes, will be faster. And that the likely-hood of a crash depends on how many of the bitcoin-owners are like you: prone to panic. Without people like you there would not be any crashes, only fluctuations.... Relax man!

Yea well, that too. But there would be a lot less without people like this guy. But this is a special case since there's no way to measure the true value of a bitcoin...

Naaah .. drastic widespread change in sentiment from (possibly overpriced) valuations to lower valuations causes a price crash.

I don't believe it's a crash it's just a corrections value. In the past week publicity inflated the value of bitcoin and the infrastructural value didn't keep ip. It's just normalizing expect it to go as low as $22. Closest fit regression lines were predicting a the value of Bitcoin at $11. $7.5 to $31 isn't relistic and it's just balancing so no worries. Well worry if you are just here for quick buck.

Am I the only one who hovered my mouse over the curve shown, only to be dissapointed it was just a picture and wouldn't show trade prices?  :'(

Errrm if anyone would bother to look at the trade history of bitcoin prices dropping Friday through Sunday is NORMAL. There just aren't as many people trading on these days with last weekend being the main exception that proves the rule. The weird spike is going to cause fluctuations but look at some of the UK/GBP exchanges they're at this moment still going strong and trading at around 28-32USD. Move some coins there if you're feeling unhappy instead of ill-researched panicking.

Oh and starting to troll based on a couple of ill researched stories in the news is just.....

At first I thought this was a joke, but now methinks someone is trying to influence the market and pick up some cheap bitcoins.

I'm amused by these transparent 'fishing' attempts by people. They either have never traded anything that fluctuates in value, or think something like this will actually move price.

I'd say 'nice try', but in all actuality it is just a sad, sad attempt. All aboard the failboat!

Forum admin note.

New threads with keyword crash, crashing should not be posted until an admin approves the thread.

If you want to post a new OMFG THE SKY IS FALLING! Thread, use the search function.  Type crash, or crashing.  And bump a thread.  No need for a new one every other day.

If you're worried about losing value in your BTC wallet, just sell quietly.  If you tell EVERYBODY its going down, you won't get as much back.

Thus, there are two forms of logic for a post like this:

1.) Trying to drive price down to buy
2.) Mild to moderate retardation, and/or Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

I completely agree with this. It appears we might have a lot scene kids trading bitcoin that have virtually no understanding of how markets work.

So the kids will buy, or mine, then sell when they get the munchies and bring the price down... So what? Eventually, they'll fall off to the sides and the real money will step in. If bitcoin is deflationary, uncounterfeitable, fairly anonymous and secure, the really shouldn't be another option.

If it isn't, there is :-)

Agreed !  ???

In a forum on manipulation resistant, censorship immune digital currency - we really need moderation, manipulation and censorship, don't we?  ::)

The original poster got me mildly amused. That's how markets work, by pumping up panic and observing the reaction of the crowd. We should not fear kids with bit coin panic, since it is just their action which keeps the currency stable in the end. They are not smart enough to really manipulate the course, and they cannot cough up sufficient trading volume as well. But they get people thiunking about the course and the whole concept - and this is very good.

No people with 250.000 bitcoins in their wallet have effect on the markets. And they well know they aren't going to lose this chance of becoming rich, they wouldn't want to be the last ones with Bitcoins losing this chance of their lifetime.

Most of you understand these things, but for those of you who haven't lived through the ups and downs of the stock market, housing market, etc:

BTC don't "do" anything, only people do.  If the price is dropping, that means (and can only mean) that there's someone trying to unload BTC below market price - which redefines the market price.  For example, the 'mystery miner' is sitting on 49511.441 BTC; suppose he wants to cash some of that out, and puts a sell order on the dark market for 10000 BTC at $14 (even though the pride is $28).  He doesn't care that it's below market; best case he makes $280k, worst case $140k.

Do you really want to sell -right- when someone (with a hell of a lot more BTC than you) is seling too?  Don't forget that for every person selling BTC at a given price, there is someone out there who is happy to buy BTC at that price.  You may want to consider being one of the latter rather than the former.

Finally, an awesome quote I saw elsewhere on the forum:

"Buy when there's blood in the streets, even if the blood is your own."  -Baron Rothschild

Stocks give divident and are backed by a company, it's a totally different thing.

The Bigholders of Bitcoins who just unloaded a few thousand bitcoins have interest in a bounce back to 20$, naturally, they do not dump all at once as they would get less for their bitcoins than if they let it bounce back 20$, consolidate, and sell again for higher price.
