Lol I sold ~0.12 a couple of weeks ago and I am already regretting it... I can't imagine if I sold more. But I can't understand why you did it if you knew that the halving will happen later this year and will drive the price up for sure? I was a little bit off the forum for some time, but this year I am watching very closely everything, just because of the halving. I assume you were in a need of the money and that's why you sold?

That's unfortunate I'm sure you have urgent reason to sell it ,knowing that bitcoin halving is closer but it is not yet to late the price increase is just a start we will see more increase of price in the future..

It is so wasting of money if you are making mistakes with Bitcoin and you have to know that it will be always more worth in the future and that would be really nice.
But of course you dont even know what is going to happen with the value of Bitcoin but that is just the risk that you should take.

100 BTC is a huge amount (at least for me).

Why didn't you just sell a certain percentage of your coins instead of all at once?

If you sell your coins in small batches you always get to benefit from a higher going price.

Right now you are just left with a heavy feeling of disappointment.

I think you have just help to re-distribute the bitcoin. Everyone has a price to their bitcoin. Once the price is reach, they part with their coins for fiat... and the coins got re-distributed. Hopeful we will soon see less and less people holding to >1000BTC (or even >100 BTC).

Yeah this is way you should not sell everything at once because there is always a chance that the price is going to go up later on the in the future. You now have missed the chance to make more money.

Did you sell your coins for a loss? Then it's OK to regret but if not, why do you need to? Few months back, the price was about $400 and now what if the price would drop to $250 as it was in October 2015, would you be regretting still? I earned a profit when I sold my coins at even $350 and I don't regret it at all. Bitcoins and gold are similar where selling/buying doesn't matter as the price keeps fluctuating.

You have my sympathy..Thanks to GOD that I didn't.

I am just accumulating more and more BTC just to make out big out of it in future. I am thinking long term and accordingly accumulating bitcoin as per my buying power.

I think I can turn few of my dreams in top reality in future with the power of bitcoin. Lets hope for the best.

That's really a very big amount. You have lost a big sum of profit just because you doesn't have the patience to hold till halving. If you had hold now you might have got double the profit.

You would have made money.

I will wait after the halving to sell my coins. But the price has to be really high for me to sell any coins.

I spent some a coupla weeks ago. Do I regret it? Well, I could've gotten more stuff with it but I'm happy enough. I think there's gonna be threads like this for as long as crypto exists.

If you really had 100BTC you probably wouldn't say freely in the forum.
Even if this account doesn't share the same email or nickname.

Seriously? why would you sell such amount if you do know that there is halving fever that resulted into price increase. If this was true you lost a lot of money.

Wow man! It was the worst moment to sell! But no worries, I read that at the moment when Bitcoin reaches $10 a lot of people sell it because think it is the top.
Im sure that in few years Bitcoin price will reach $10k so now as well is good moment to buy and earn ;)

Don't worry. I have it worse.

I'd been holding coins for over 2 years with very little movement...

I sold 100 April 30 and then my last 100 at the end of May, just days before the big rise started.

Normally I'd buy back in, but my money is tied up in mutual funds now.

The crazy thing is that I didn't even really want to sell. I just got an accepted offer on a house, though, and I need the cash to sit in an account for 90 days so I could get a mortgage.

So far, I figure I've missed out on about $60,000 just from the past two weeks of gains.

And there is nothing I can do but sit there and watch.  :'(

It had nowhere to go but up.

I was thinking the same... btc has nowhere to go but up .

@op
Did you at least bought these 100btc at 400$~500$? if yes, well... then at least you were in profit. could have more but still in profit so..

Don't be sad if you somehow profitted from that sale you made. I really don't understand why it is going up madly nowadays, it is gox all over again. It ended so bad in 2013 and btc has fallen to 200$ and it will happen again.

If you sold these btc less than you bought them then you need to regret. but if not , you just lost some potential profit that you could earn. If you still interested in btc, invest some money again and you may make some profit again

Its a huge amount why you sold it now regret i think you are not believing in bitcoin thats why its happen.. but any way you can still buy bitcoins right now and i think bitcoin will increase more sooner..
Or you can buy right now and wait again in 3 years and block halving we will see more valuable price of bitcoins.

I sold my 3 BTC 2 months ago but I don't regret it. I had made sure that I need fiat instead of BTC but now the price is so high that I can't afford to buy the same old 3 BTC back. May be later when the price drops, I can again start buying bitcoins but then it will again take months to increase.

Why you feel regret? Did you sell your bitcoin at loss. Hope you sold at profit.

This is a market someone buys someone sells and someone gets profit someone gets loss. If everyone get profit then who gets loss. If everyone hold bitcoin then bitcoin will be valueless. If someone thinks and not to be missed the opportunity he can hold for 100 years when bitcoin reach $100k per one bitcoin sell that time.
Don't be regret  :)

I know that feeling. Back in 2013 I bought around 1200LTC at $2 per coin, and I sold at $2.2 where I thought I made a nice profit. >:( After that, the price kept going up and touched $45!!! I can tell you, that feeling is horrible.

He regrets it because now the price is even higher then what he sold his coins for, so he could have made more money and that is what he regrets the most.

I am also regretting for selling my coins for $380 in the beginning of the year. I had been holding my coins for a year but then decided to sell my 7 BTC at that rate. If I had sold them now, I would be in a profit of $2240.
I can not imagine what your loss has been. But may be you could buy coins after halving and then hold them to earn profit.

well i can say that i feel same because i had 3 bitcoins then and i sold 2 of them because price was large compared to what it was before then, so i sold them instantly for that price

but now when price is even larger, i regret for it,  i really do and i am sure that you do too, as you could get 300$ more for each of them so that's large money lost

I know your pain, I've been there too.
But I've come to realize that worrying too much about selling BTC at 'low price' is not gonna change anything.
We are rich with experience and knowledge that BTC is high now. But imagine - maybe bitcoin in half a year will be worth $1500?
We don't know yet but it is very possible. Will you cry then that you were dumb and didn't wait too?

Keep in mind I dont think its bad call for op`s view.

He has way more then the average joes in holding so even the sligthest margins of price increase is still good.

But overall view he`s just missing out a small chunk of profits, its better to be safe then sorry for speculating on a price to go up.

yeah i did not sell any of my bitcoins too even though most people adviced me to do that all the time in order not to lose money, though i now have even more to be honest

im never selling any of my bitcoins, it is like an investment for me and it is the best investment possible nowadays, in my opinion this will be like that for a few decades

Buying back the coins that he sold is not really a problem. The real problem is that he is used to have 100 BTC in his wallet. If he is going to buy back his coins, he will probably get 40-50% less coins back for the amount he sold his 100 BTC for. That just doesn't feel good.

I think that's what haunts everyone who's ever thought of selling what they got. I'd feel very sad staring at my balance a few weeks later if I'd tried to get back in again. I don't think it's sensible to think in dollar terms and once you're in you should stay in if you can. obviously if you got bills that need meeting there's no choice but if bitcoin continues to develop then ultimately there's only one possible way it's gonna go and it ain't down.

I don't think the OP has said why he sold. Was it because of necessity or because he lost a little faith?

I think you have a very big regret, 100 BTC possible if it is still on hold you have a huge profit.

I myself sometimes sell 1 BTC, it feels very regret, no idea if it was 100 BTC.

but if you still have it in the form of fiat, perhaps the time is still right for you to buy bitcoin, because halving still about 3 weeks away.

No doubt a pretty big "kick yourself in the ass moment" I'm sure. I don't know what the price was a few months ago...maybe 300-400? Now it's double or about there so that really can hurt a man's pride.

Not me. Me and a lot of people advice everyone about how selling BTC at 200 was suicidal and not buying BTC at 200 was also suicidal. It turns out we were right and we might be seeing the last days of 3 figure per BTC as we speak.

Were you not aware what halving news was about?

I just assume everyone knows this by now, but if theres fewer block rewards people tend to jack up prices. I guess this is the difference of knowing enough bitcoin and peoples small details of making a bigger buck.

Thats sad man but its ok.  ;D I think even if the btc price had risen from back then you made the right decision because if you didn't sold it all and others holded too, do you think that bitcoin's price will still be the same now if you didn't sell yours? Will it be redistributed to thers again? Well I think no because if all will hold, btc's price will not change for months or even years.

i really don't get this! how can someone invest this much money in something (100BTC in this case) and have no idea about what he is doing, hold it for "two years" then sell at low prices!!

i mean if you want to sell, you should sell when the loss is small not when it is at max loss and sell just before the rise!

It is so wasting of money if you are making mistakes with Bitcoin and you have to know that it will be always more worth in the future and that would be really nice.
But of course you dont even know what is going to happen with the value of Bitcoin but that is just the risk that you should take.
How can you be sure that the price would always increase? Then why did the price drop in 2014? There's no specific reason why the price increase or drops as it depends on many factors. The price may suddenly drop by $100 and we would all be regretting again. We should understand that bitcoins are risky and they won't always earn you profit.

But, this time we shouldn't do that and keep on holding as much we can. I will be holding till it hits $2000 .

ouch. that's gotta hurt. Do you have any plans on getting back in?

i really don't get this! how can someone invest this much money in something (100BTC in this case) and have no idea about what he is doing, hold it for "two years" then sell at low prices!!

i mean if you want to sell, you should sell when the loss is small not when it is at max loss and sell just before the rise!

Could you have predicted the rise...??

No, you didn't and you couldn't. Bitcoin could have just as easily gone sub 200.

Now, I'm long time optimistic on bitcoin, but I need the cash for a mortgage application. No, mortgage brokers will not count bitcoin as an asset.

I really had no choice. I still have the 100k I got out, but I was not able to use it to buy back in.

At the current prices, looks like I missed out on $70,000.

I bought $60 (yes just sixty not thousands) worth of BTC in Nov 2015 as first encounter in the cryptocurency. I watched it gaining 50% before your sale date regardless downfall in between.
Apart from keeping eye at BTC price, I learned one thing from all related sources: BTC will rise at the time of halving - nobody knows for sure how much but surely it will not go down. Make me sure not selling BTC - actually I did make purchase with BTC but quickly bought even more.
Rise was totally predicted and I'm backing my belief in further rise by buying much more BTC at over 700$ price, it is still rising so I must not be alone.

When someone who holds 100 BTC for two years say: couldn't predict the rise, I can only assume you wasn't paying any attention to your investment.

Your decision in regards of mortgage is a different story, but cannot agree on "couldn't predicted the rise".

My story goes: back in 2009 I was told briefly about Bitcoin and regardless I saw it interesting, I did not found time to get into it, looking back in time I dream what I could achieve having access to datacenter facilities, powerful servers and free electricity. All gone now and I have to live happy with that.

Wow you must  feel bad then. If you had waited 3 months you would have get double of what you did get.

Patience is hard. If bitcoin is worth 1k, and you don't sell you don't have any profit.
To make profit you have to sell. And yes determining when to sell is quite hard, for everyone.

You are right sir. The problem is to determine when you sell your bitcoins. For a trader the price at 783 seems good to sell, but for a believer the price will be too low whatever the price is.

Unfortunately there is a permanent risk in deciding the right time to sell, because I have no doubt that sooner or later this important rally will end and we will observe a market correction.

But meanwhile, I think it is better to avoid hasty decisions during these volatile days, and wait for some stabilization in the bitcoin price before deciding to sell. Keeping your coins is the best decision now.

I spent some a coupla weeks ago. Do I regret it? Well, I could've gotten more stuff with it but I'm happy enough. I think there's gonna be threads like this for as long as crypto exists.

If some store accepts BTC, I often instantly just re-buy the required amount on an exchange. That way I don't lose any BTC, yet I still supported the BTC ecosystem.

Dude, that's like at least $35k profit you've missed out on if you just held that bitcoin for another month or so... That's way better than bank interest, don't you agree with me? :P

I have the same feeling right now though, for not buying as much as I should when the price was still cheap.

Thats too much. Where do you get that 100 btc, and what is the reason why you sold all that much, are you afraid that btc will fall. Much better if you sell the only half of it. Well that is so regretable you miss this opportunity to make more profit. But its not too late dude btc prise will rise its highest value this halvening so better move.

damn, that must have really sucked to have missed out on so much profit that you should have made. However I think it is really your fault for not listening to a lot of people telling you about the current bullishness :)

But you still have a chance to get back in. Good luck.

It could happen to anyone.  You cant regret your decision if it was at the time the right decision for you.  Nobody knows where the price will go one day to the next,  those who say they know have their own agenda.

Sigh!  :-X
Have nothing to say, as words can't be used for such decision. But I can say that circumstances make people choose what is wrong and what is right, and if you needed that money during that time, your decision is considered wise.  ;)

i understand why you regret your decisions but movement of bitcoin prices is unpredictable and i was never thought too that the current prices will so high and i think if i have 100 btc such as you i have no patience too and would sell all my bitcoins because few months ago the prices seems stuck on $400 below

No one knows what would be the price on that time, so it still fine atleast you profit with it. It is better  than gambling it.

Well no one can predict right price of bitcoin. But still you sold it thinking that you might loose up a nice profit if bitcoin loses its run so it is normal but still some do regret if they lose a nice chance of profit.

Talking about me am also in same boat i sold my 0.5 Btc for a price when it was touching $395-415 sometime around 2-3 months ago. Too bad  :-\

100 BTC is so much to hold so i know why you could have made that decision because price was so volatile and you may have thought price can be dumped hard after quick huge pump. But story going different in current price pump still annoying and confused on actual reason for this.

Seriously? why would you sell such amount if you do know that there is halving fever that resulted into price increase. If this was true you lost a lot of money.

The thing is that probably he sold on 500 because he got more cheap BTC but he  re-bought later to 700-750 but now he got less BTC.

A lot of the answers here are biased and vacuous. Bitcoin didn't have nowhere to go but up - it had already doubled since last year and the fundamentals that pushed it to $150 were still essentially in place.

It's hard to pick the perfect spot to get out. As long as you made a calculated decision using your head instead of your heart, you shouldn't regret it.

There's must be a reason behind. I think the profit he make is depend on what time he bought it. If he bought at those bitcoin with around $100 value then it still worth it because he's profit is still tripled than the time he buy those coins.

sold around the 100 btc few months ago that is not a quiet big deal because you have allot of time to get bitcoins back for the official price rising you need to hurry.

That means that you must have made allot of money if you sold that many coins a few months ago but I am sure that you regret it now. The price is now allot higher then it was a few months ago so maybe if you have some coins you can still sell.
