Title: How many people use/hold bitcoin in 2016
Post by: helloeverybody on June 20, 2016, 03:53:05 PM
Im interested to know how many people are actually now involved in the bitcoin world, Is there anyway to find out a rough idea of the user base so that we can come to a conclusion on what kind of adoption we are currently at? It seems difficult to gauge since this forum alone has several duplicate accounts from the same people.

. /r/bitcoin has 180k subs to it so would it be safe to assume if we included all miners, users holders and whoever else that we are still at under 1 million users? If this is the case then we still have a long way to go.

Does anyone have any more accurate guesses or way to determine the market?

I would say that the amount of people that use Bitcoin probably numbers among 1-2 million total, and yes, we do have a long way to go.

The thing is Bitcoin, as it is right now, is still too technical for a lot of people, and a lot of the things we find obvious or easy simply aren't easy or simple to a majority of other people. I know it sounds dumb, but that's how it is.

My theory is assume that 25% of /r/bitcoin users also use this board, and assume this board is ~30%-45% representative of the total population of Bitcoin (e.i. user number multiplied by ~0.75 to account for multiple accounts) and then assume it counts for ~40% of the entire count of users, multiply the numbers and get your answer.

I also pulled that theory out of my ass so no guarantee is means shit.

blockchain.info wallet claims they have over 7 million users, right on the wallet homepage.

As you already told, one person can have several accounts, but I believe it is safe to assume at least 3-5 million users tried Bitcoin for short amount of time. Coinbase has at least million accounts as well, and these are verified by government isued ID - so pretty much these numbers represents real people.

thats quite interesting to know, I never thought of coinbase or anything like that. If we are only at 3-5 million (higher than i thought which is good) then you could truly class anyone whos buying into bitcoin now as early adopters. All we need to do is spread the word and get properly mainstream, And hopefully with the rising price due to the halfning we get more tv spots on the news etc to push us that bit further forward. 2016 and 2017 might be more interesting than you'd think.

I think it is asked few months ago also and most of the members including me have answered no we can't even get data about total bitcoin address exist or created till now. So finding no of people involved in bitcoin is not possible.

Predicting depending upon the situation now, at least 60 to 70% of the people in this forum, would be holding their BTC for now. The value is really getting high. I am sure, looking at the price hike, you have posted this question. Compared to other years, the price is really up and being stable. More numbers in head, would peep into this forum very soon.

Your argument is flawed, if you base the total user count on forum membership. You see sock puppet newbie accounts popping up every day on all of these platforms, so it's in no way a indication of

what the adoption figures for Bitcoin is like. You should contact some of the regulated exchanges and ask them what their total user base looks like... they do publish figures now and again. These will

give you more accurate totals, because members of these exchanges have to verify their identity to adhere to KYC/AML regulations... So every member is linked to a true identity. This will be more

accurate than counting forum membership.  ::)

By standing on my opinion. I see 90% of users here are holding their BTC including myself to get some high amount by increasing this value of BTC,
There is no new thing am gonna say here. Everyone knows the value is increasing day by day ;).

I have no idea but im sure im one of them  :D  Seeing bitcoin value soaring high means there is a need to hold. Who knows maybe for the next quarter BTC might double in value.   So maybe I'll wait and watch when to sell my BTC.  (Yeah holders need to watch because bitcoin is still  volatile we don't know when it will crash so better updated!)

But it was a good theory  ;D agree with this, alot of exchange users don't use the forum, and there are also coinbase users that don't even know this forum exists. Basically, given the difficulties of Bitcoin for the average user, there are a lot of users that use the protocol without actually being involved in the ecosystem. Via hosted wallet services.

I also thought this but honestly this cannot be really measured in my eyes due to the fact that is just so difficult to see if you are asking.
Overall there are a lot of users but how many .. I really do not know.

according to me he user and holder of bitcoin in 2016 are more than any previous year. in 2016 the popularity of bitcoin is much more than previous years. more and more people are entering in the world of bitcoin. they are now understanding the reality of bitcoin. most of the people are now investing their flat money in the bitcoin. i am sure that after halving if price of bitcoin remain constant, bitcoin will become the kind of the crypto currencies.

By what time? I hope you realize that it's halfway through 2016 already. ::)

I also pulled that theory out of my ass so no guarantee is means shit.

No one can predict the future, so it's likely that yours is as good as the next. However, assuming that 75% of this forum's userbase accounts for the people that use it is probably stretching it, taking people with multiple accounts (as in 4+) and accounts created by bots in consideration. I'd say it's more like 40%, if that. Also, I doubt that 30-40% of bitcoin users use this forum.

But other than that, it sounds solid. :)

it's very hard to know the actual number of people who use bitcoin. if you track all btc address it won't be accurate because one man use more than one wallet. if you can track all IP you will know but it's very difficult to do. but, as long I know and found on Google In 2016 survey found more than 100million of people use bitcoin.

Yes its almost impossible to calculate the exact number of users using bitcoin, and I don't think that we should waste our time in thinking that, community is growing for sure and that is the best sign.

Not sure if that survey was accurate because in the article titled "Bitcoin's Big Challenge in 2016: Reaching 100 Million Users" on Coindesk they say in the end: "According to publicly available data, there are now over 10 million bitcoin wallets." I think it's impossible to be a user of Bitcoin and don't have a wallet, so my guess would be that less than 10 million people are using Bitcoin at the moment. I think it's from 3 to 5 million actually.

It's fairly simple for regulated exchanges to determine the exact amount of Bitcoin users, registered on their sites... I do not know why they are not announcing this publically.  ??? Some of the biggest

Bitcoin exchanges are regulated and they adhere to the AML/KYC regulations, so they have verified ID's. Just imagine if we only had  10 000 000 Bitcoin users and some killer App, cause this user base

to climb to 100 000 000 or even 1 000 000 000 users.  ::)

It's extremely difficult to estimate the Bitcoin user base. It is even unclear what should be considered a Bitcoin user. Is it enough that somebody has earned a few Satoshis at a faucet that he/she does not use afterwards? Or is the criteria that somebody already actively used Bitcoin as a currency to buy or sell goods or services?

If the latter definition is used I would estimate the total number of Bitcoin users to be still below 1 million. The market capitalization is still too low for a higher estimate.

I have 3 blockchain.info wallets. I guess they should tell how many of them are actually active. I have 2 accounts which I've emptied and another one which I haven't used for maybe 2 years (there's only satoshis there). Everybody I know has several wallets and has used several exchanges. So... We may not be that many.

Don't think it will add much value to do surveys. Mainly because of the fact that you don't know whether or not people answer everything with full honesty.

We will most likely never find out how many users Bitcoin exact has, but you can see that the adoption rate is getting higher and higher as the number of transactions are going through the roof.

Yeah. Any online stat for a freely created thing is dubious at best. If we look at the amount of r/bitcoin subscribers, I for one have at least two accounts. Many people will have lord knows how many throwaways, plus spammy brigaders, plus people who've long buggered off.

Out of those 183,000 or whatever subscribers there might be 20,000 or less actual individuals.

The only really reliable metrics would be individually verified accounts at exchanges and places like Coinbase and Bitpay. Understandably they're not going to release those figures in case they make themselves look daffy.

This would be an impossible feat to accomplish to know how many individuals hold bitcoin because one person can use multiply addresses so that is the only real way to track this sort of thing. As far as I know. :-\

i think its really hard to calculate how many people use bitcoin because we don't know if someone already have 2-5 bitcoin wallet address. but if we want to calculate how many wallet address that have been release since bitcoin launch, i think its can be done. beside that even we make a poll on here, there are no guarantee that people in out there will not holding bitcoin wallet address even if they are not join in here.

According to my optimistic forecasts, Bitcoin average prices in 2020 could be $1,276.5 USD, my moderate scenario is $861.5 USD. I base my forecast on a higher trading volume and the potential BTC market share in worlwide e-commerce.

I think prices are going to boost toward 2024. My moderate scenario expects $2,807.3 USD per BTC. I think it would be a reasonable evolution for BTC in long term.

In my very optimistic scenario, I believe BTC can touch a roof of $4,200-$6,700 USD in some moment of the next decade. I believe it, but i'm not expecting it.

solid %.  Its still such a new thing that we wont know for years.  Maybe you could figure it out by country then combine all countries

Bitcoin is decentralized and now that they widely adopted it's almost impossible to get the right number and you are all right, wallet is not the determining factor to get the data because every user can create as many wallet as they want.

It'd be pretty hard to accurately crunch the numbers to see the amount of users on a year to year basis. One can assume that it's gone up using common sense but I don't believe it would be possible to get an accurate percentage / statistic seeing as one person can have multiple addresses and multiple addresses being created for specific transactions etc etc

well we can only make a speculation , noone could calculate the exact number. there's too much things to do to make a research on this. and also there is super private feature in bitcoin that allows you to hide your bitcoin without noone noticed. this is how bitcoin run.

We know that we only have 530320 adresses with 1 or more btc. Each adress may belong only to 1 bitcoiner, but each bitcoiner can posess more than 1 adress. Thus I assume that we have less than 500000 solid bitcoiners (with 1 btc or higher amount). The others we can throw away as immaterial

Maybe there are 10 millions people which are using bitcoin right now. In my country, where there is a law of bitcoin restriction, more than 100000 people are holding bitcoin for many purposes. And guess what, people are still having bitcoin although there is not any store accepting bitcoin
well we can only make a speculation , noone could calculate the exact number. there's too much things to do to make a research on this. and also there is super private feature in bitcoin that allows you to hide your bitcoin without noone noticed. this is how bitcoin run.
well it is true that many bitcoin is being used anonymously. And I think it even proves that there are countless people using bitcoin at present, which means after a few more decades, bitcoin will be well-known in this planet

about 7 million  :)

We're over 10 million already worldwide. As we're in the end of 2016, I guess we'll get just a bit over 100k more new users until 2017.

Around 8 millions is my estimation. But yet this is just the guess. There is no relevant mechanism or survey that could get us the correct data about number of Bitcoin users. I caz see how this could be possible. Also I think that this number may vary from time to time because some new users are coming but also some are leaving the community.

Of course we are under the million. My rough guess of monthly active users would be around 250 000 users.

As here in the forum we have 600000 people are registered here in the forum. Apart from that many people left from the forum. So we cannot speculate the number of people using bitcoins. with bitcoin, Users also became anonymous around here.

Does anyone have any more accurate guesses or way to determine the market?
user of bitcoin from year to year always increase, and in this year greatly increasing rapidly..
i think in 2016 this more than 1 millions..

I don't have the exact numbers but I assume there is a lot. You can see it here in the website, I see that there are many users in this group. How much more on the outside web? We can even see that there are too many online merchants now that accepts bitcoin as a way of payment so, that means that there a lot of consumers there including me considers bitcoin as a mode of payment. With the benefits of Bitcoin, I'm sure that it will dominate the entire world.

there is never going to be any way of knowing the answer to this question. the only thing that you can do is making a very off the mark kind of guess based on some  things you see on the blockchain. for example the number of transactions, possibly the big whales like the large wallets that hold lots of bitcoin and ask the services like coinbase about the number of users they have.

Theres  no one could able to give a precise  number here on  which  how  many   bitcoin users all over the  world  for this  year. No one   really knows  because  we all know  bitcoins  is soo  complex and we  cant even  count off  people  who  use  different addresses  thats  why its hard to determin the total number.

I don't know if it's possible to have exact or even close numbers to that question , but one of the popular faucets already have more than 2 million users but since it's easy to have more than one account then even that doesn't give an answer

perhaps the use or hold bitcoin in 2016 is 40% of the world community. Well, it's been so many people who know bitcoin but I do not know whether they use it or not. but according to my calculations, many of those who do not use it, so in my opinion, only 40% of the world community that use or store its bitcoin

I guess we need to define the term "use/hold" bitcoin. Having 1bit = using/holding, or we need at least 1mBTC or even 1BTC? I would say at this moment, any serious bitcoiner should have at least 1BTC. There are only about 0.5 million addresses with balance>1 BTC. Of course there are people who store their coins in small amounts in different addresses... My guess is that there are about 0.5 to 1 million "serious" bitcoiners around the world.

Blockchain and coinbase user numbers are just to measure the interest. I personally have more than 1 (actually many) blockchain accounts just because I just use and throwaway so that I don't have to write down the seed/password/account number etc. My long term storage is my paper wallets.

In my area, I think it's less than 100. That means that dumb social media trends are still more popular than bitcoins. When you ask someone about a video that went viral on facebook, he/she knows most of the details about it. Ask them about bitcoins and they don't know anything about it. That's a sign that the population of bitcoin users is still really really low. I think we're around 1 million today, that's just a fraction of the total active internet users.

Same here! I can't give the exact number of users of bitcoins nor the people holding it. If i will guess, i think it also reach millions. the continuous growing of bitcoins attracts even those minor to use, collect and buy bitcoins. the rising numbers of users was increasingly daily not only in my country but also in many countries that recognising bitcoins as a money.

We can't measure the number of people who will hold bitcoin in 2016 because we can see that the price of bitcoin is much higher than before so it is very tempting for them to sell their bitcoins rather than hold it and can't assure the stability of the price. And on the number of people who will use bitcoin in this year, I think it is already exceeds 5 million because bitcoin is on the internet and it means that it is very easy for bitcoin to spread its name.

No one can actually tell you how many people are using bitcoin in any amounts, bitcoin still needs more advertising and to spread awareness more than now.
It is sad to see most of the people in our daily interactions with them know nothing about crypto world what so ever.
I think 10 years from now at least 500M will know and will for sure use bitcoin and crypto in general.

It will be a painful procedure if one tries to find out the exact number of active user of Bitcoin. Since there are many different wallets and services all the data is decentralized. Off course even many people holds more than 2 or 3 wallets because of many reasons this also makes it difficult. I will give estimation of 2-3 millions directly or indirectly are involved in Bitcoin.

Actually due to price  stability on 2016 since its halving most of holder might have not sold their bitcoin and might be waiting for price hike. There might be buy and sell during the first half nectar initially price was around $350 and suddenly it rose to $600 so almost 2 fold increase in price of bitcoin. Do 1st half ad second half of 2016 have different view on bitcoin holding graph. Let hope for the best for 2017 and upcoming years

It's true that this may lead to actually less people holding BTC because more people will be holding and aslo the price will increase but as long as there are people willing to buy BTC will be on the right track. The bigger concern for me is not how much people hold BTC but how many are informed with BTC and the real possibilites it holds and not what they have really exactly heard

I'm not sure if exact numbers for Bitcoin users actualy exist. I beleive and hope that this number is increasing with each year and how Bitcoin becomes more accepted and popular. Also, the offer for jobs paid in Bitcoin is also increasing so that can contribute to larger number Bitcoin users too.
But in the future if the price increase a lot Bitcoin may become unavailable to larger population so that is potentialy leading to some elite status.

I do believe current number of Bitcoin users will be in millions at present. There are so many usage of Bitcoin and lot of people don't have access to this forum but still know about from external sources and found it useful. Let's say 1/3 of the blockchain.info wallet holders are real users then too that number is above 2 million.

It's not a big number, and I'm supposing it, because we don't have a very big traffic on forum. Of course this is the best and biggest forum about crypto-currencies, but if the BTC was really being used in mass by world population, we would see more members here.

And I believe anyone who isn't a newbie on this world, have an account on Bitcoin Talk Forum, no?

I think some value between 1 million and 1.5 million seems to be a reasonable number, if you ask me. On the other hand, a value in the range of two million seems to be unrealistic, in my opinion, since Bitcoin is still in its early stages of expansion, with few merchants adopting the currency, hence few customers. This is likely to change, given the potential of it.

blockchain.info wallet claims they have over 7 million users, right on the wallet homepage.

As you already told, one person can have several accounts, but I believe it is safe to assume at least 3-5 million users tried Bitcoin for short amount of time. Coinbase has at least million accounts as well, and these are verified by government isued ID - so pretty much these numbers represents real people.

I agree with you. the data shows that there are over 7 million users, but I am not sure either that the users are different for each wallet. probably some wallet is owned by a person, or there are many people forget their private keys or forget their password, so they create new wallet. that makes the users increase, but in fact amount of people using the wallet does not reach 7 million at all.

Other than Blockchain.info wallet, I think a site like Freebitco.in can give us a closer range of the number of Bitcoin users(at least the users who are actually interested in Bitcoin and deal with it or they wouldn't give a damn about the site, right?). The site has more than 3.35 Million registered members And I can assure you that this number is quite solid because the site is very restricted about multiple accounts. IF anyone tries to create another account he/she will get blocked on the registering page telling him/her "account is banned due to same IP Address used by an existing member" and if anyone uses a Proxy or VPN will also get blocked. I tested making another account on the site more than once and i failed. Unless changing IP Address(like using another computer or smartphone with a different internet connection than the one you currently have), you cannot make another account. So let's assume that all the 3.35 Million are real people, i can safely say that Bitcoin users/holders are between 3-5 Million users which is quite good!  :D

Well almost 50% user are keeping their money on hold because after july halving price fluctuation is quit low and many might had thought to sell after halving but unfortunately there was no price hike so they might had have kept their money on hold. But before halving there was quit instability in bitcoin price and I think more buying and selling took place in that period of time.

It is not easy to calculate. Home screen of blockchain wallet  https://blockchain.info/wallet/#/ (https://blockchain.info/wallet/#/) claims that has 8+ million wallets but how many of them are active assuming that many bitcoin users open a wallet (especially web wallet) only to test it?

It seems difficult to gauge since this forum alone has several duplicate accounts from the same people.

. /r/bitcoin has 180k subs to it so would it be safe to assume if we included all miners, users holders and whoever else that we are still at under 1 million users? If this is the case then we still have a long way to go.

That is not a reliable basis to estimate the total number of users of bitcoin since one person can make as many wallets as he want and just leave it untouched after making such wallet. There's no way we can have a close estimate on how many real users of bitcoin but one thing is certain is we are growing in numbers.

I think we're actually over 10 million people in the world using Bitcoin. 4 million seems to be a too small number for the number of ATMs and businesses that rely on Bitcoin that exist in the world. We are millions but from different countries, which makes Bitcoin look like it's not popular at all.

What you are telling is true about we cannot estimate the number of users of bitcoin not only each person using multi wallets but also each transaction uses single wallet address and the wallet generates new address for another transaction. So it is highly impossible to tell the estimate of users of bitcoin.

The main point is now the Bitcoin users have increased in 10 times more then 2 yrs back and we can see double speed growth in coming years

The moment that there are actual counting of the numbers of users is that time when there is one registered wallet per individual. That time the government has its eyes and places regulations and policies pertaining the use of bitcoin. It will also includes monitoring of transactions to check illicit activities and also for taxation. So for me i dont care if we know or not how many users there are in bitcoin world as long as I am earning.

My guess is that the number of users is somewhere from 5 to 10 million users.
Bitcointalk.org is now closing up to have 1 million users.
A lot of bitcoin users start here, I suppose at least 10%. That would make a total number ot 10 million btc users.
If the percentege in my calculation goes up, the total number of users would decrease.

It's really difficult to quantity the number of people cause it's just increasing and increasing, I feel anywhere between 5-8 million would be my guess, cause it's popularity has increased 10 fold. Every one is on it as they get more aware of its power. However to get a fix number is difficult if not impossible. May I know what specific use is this to you.

Yeah, bitcoin price prediction as well the user prediction can just be guessed, making exact number is impossible. Several threads have been running based upon the user profile count. I believe these number is increasing gradually. By the time of next halving we can expect the users to get increase to at least a 10% growth.

I am sure the percentage of bitcoin users is less than even 0.50% people around the world and rest 99.50% still using cash / fiat (and some in 0.50% too) so we have a long way to go towards the concept of money 2.0. Bitcoin will be one of the major payment solution in next few years but still it might take a decade or two for bitcoin to become a truly global currency.

I think it is no way to got the actual number of how many people using or holding bitcoin, because there are no indicators to count, lots of the users are hidden and there is probability that one user create multiple wallets, so we really can't count it, and i agree that bitcoin user is still just a small percentage of world populations

I respect your opinion with the number of users as your estimate, but I would like to correct something. It's not called customers but as a users, it's not a business that one is operating, it's decentralize so we all own bitcoin.

It is impossible to determine the users of bitcoin in 2016 because we can't control the people to use it. There's a billion of people out there using internet. Anytime they want to access is very possible if they have internet connection. Bitcoin becomes popular all over the world.

There is a lot of people that uses bitcoin in the world and probably it is hard to really know how many of them use or hold bitcoin, but my guess is that there is a larger amount that are holding bitcoin and that what the price of bitcoin today reflects and these people hold the bitcoin because they want to get more out of it they want the price to go even higher so there will be always demand on it.

I think so many bitcoin users who hold their bitcoin since the beginning of 2016, especially at a time like this. bitcoin rise fairly rapidly, making many bitcoin holders do not want to sell their bitcoin.
maybe they hope that higher prices will soon come. I also hold bitcoin, and I'll probably sell when the price of bitcoin until the price of $ 900

I dont know the number of people in the world using Bitcoin or holding bitcoin because a census have not been carried out that I know of but I am sure of myself to hold some and majority of the members of this forum to hold a bit of the over 16 million Bitcoin already in circulation. But on the average, I am looking at say 10 million people would have been holding Bitcoin at this time...

Ok I will help answer your question with some statistics, there are about 15 million people involved or holding bitcoins as at now and I got this statistics from a reliable source. Here we go;

1. 7.4 million bitcoin addresses with a balance .0001 BTC ($.0861)
2. 4.5 million bitcoin addresses with a balance .001 BTC ($.861)
3. 2.8 million bitcoin addresses with a balance .01 BTC ($8.61)
4. 1.2 million bitcoin addresses with a balance 1 BTC ($86.10)
5. 446,301 bitcoin addresses with a balance 1 BTC ($861.00)
6. 131,709 bit coin addresses with a balance 10 BTC ($8,610)
7. 13,698 bitcoin addresses with a balance 100 BTC ($86,100)
8. 1,658 bitcoin addresses with a balance 1,000 BTC ($861,000).
9. 121 bitcoin addresses with a balance 10,000 BTC ($8,610,000).
10. 1 bitcoin address with a balance 100,000 BTC ($86,100,000)

I hope this helps?

The realistic chance in knowing this fact is nil and so there is nothing more to tell, since the blockchain is open source you could get the statistics of the number of transactions but i dont know whether you could get the rest of the thing, may be if you look at the amount of coins mined then it might be your answer .

If this is true then only 0.14% of the population of the Earth using bitcoin, so still very small and it is difficult to make the bitcoin as official currency.

Not much. Big addresses usually belong to exchanges and mining farms, they can also be used by a number of people e.g. company addresses. Knowing how much is stored on the addresses doesn't tell anything about the number of people involved in a specific address, thus your statement about 15 million people holding bitcoins is most likely incorrect. I have a number of addresses with a balance of over 0.1 BTC each, think about how many such addresses can a professional trader have.

And it is also better if you are going to paste your source. But for those who has a lot of bitcoins who are holding, coolcoinz is right because most of them belongs to companies/exchanges site that has merged and decided to have one holding wallet fund. Still the statistics that are coming out are just also speculations and there's no basis on how many did really hold for the whole year.

Maybe there is a way to find out, but I guess it would take time to make a program or something that can measure the bitcoin network, for us to know how many people are already using bitcoin all over the world. If I am going to estimate the people who are using bitcoin, I guess it would be over millions, because right now, only people who have open minded are using bitcoin right now, others are just ignoring it over fiat.

by measuring bitcoin network which is the blockchain, you can not ever figure out how many people are using bitcoin. the only thing you can see are the transactions and with lots of analysis you may find out how many addresses have been used but never how many people.

Yeah, it's true. We can only figure out how many people using bitcoin when we are using bitcoin transparently, meaning we will not enjoy being anonymous anymore and we have to comply the KYC like the banks are doing.

Would you mind giving credits to your "reliable source"? It would be plagiarism if you didn't.

Apparently that statistics wouldn't help at all as most people use multiple wallet addresses and companies use thousands of wallets. Do you know that thousands of wallets can belong to a single individual? Even when you do apply another statistic like average bitcoin a user has, etc. It wouldn't help since there are thousands of people that hold really small amounts of bitcoin and then there are also people that hold an enormous amount of bitcoins. There's just no way to determine how many people are using/holding bitcoins right now, just speculations.

There is many people who are holding their bitcoin more than the people who are spending and that is why the price is high because there is a constant demand on the bitcoin, and these people are greedy to be honest, and the ones that are spending are just using bitcoin as another mean of earning money on the internet nothing more.

I am one of those people who are using, buying, exchanging and earning bitcoin in weekly basis.  I can see the potential of bitcoin so i save 20% of my earnings from trading, signature campaign and other earnings in bitcoin, while using and spending 80% of it.  With the amount of bitcoin I am holding, i am far from becoming millionaire but I am happy that by using it, I am contributing to the promotion and adoption of bitcoin.

In roughly estimation I would say it should be more than that and I think it is still counting until now. Base on research of 2016 you can check in here => http://www.coindesk.com/2016-bitcoin-challenge-100-million-users/ (http://www.coindesk.com/2016-bitcoin-challenge-100-million-users/) there are 100 million people who are using bitcoin which this alone is the most common cryptocurrency out in the market but let alone the LTC , ETH, and other cryptocurrency added to this I would say roughly 1 billion users and counting, that just small percentage of around the world. Today's population is 7.5 billion so we still have a long way to share the cryptocurrency world, we still have a very very long way to go. there is no exact numbers on how many people are using cryptocurrency but what we know is that it is still counting until and and soon the cryptocurrency will be the future and will be known around the world.  ;)

I think it's hard to calculate the total of users bitcoin has cause blockchain alone has roughly 12,000,000 users how much more in some wallet providers?
And many countries has started to use and legalized it, others has some knowledge about bitcoin like japan, india, Philippines, africa, US, London and many more.

At the moment, I'm going to be guessing a lot more people hold and trade then actual going ahead and using Bitcoin as a whole. I'd say the big reason behind this is that Bitcoin is very expensive to use in a normal life experience, as it cost around $1.30 to confirm a transcation in any normal amount of time (Around 1 hr) which is pretty high coming off with normal transcations on the network aren't that high anyway.

2017 though, but this still makes sense.
According to data from economic magazine and newspapers, currently estimate the users of the bitcoin is approximately 0.00572% or about 40 million of world population.

Good amount but who knows how this data was found, could just be based on the amount of wallets in existence right now.

In the case of users of bitcoin in 2016, it still a few because bitcoin is not that popular and it just starting getting attention in the end of the year.

I am pretty sure that no matter what amount of people start using Bitcoin and hold Bitcoin we will claim that it won't be enough while the whole Bitcoin Blockchain gets larger and larger to download until only people with expensive computers plus hardware are allowed to download Bitcoins Blockchain. I hope the internet speed goes up by then because downloading the whole Blockchain would be a very long task especially  if you find only like 0.0004 BTC in your Bitcoin address.

We're lacking behind in technology to trace those who used Bitcoin in 2016. We can't determine how many of them, but we can speculate it based on predictions of how many people are using BTC now and the amount of improvement in BTC market cap in 2016 to 2017. Just predictions and assumptions.

I can't say exactly about users of bitcoin. But recently there was a study by CCAF ( Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance) which stated that more than 3 million people are into cryptocurrencies at present and actively using it.

I think it is still not enough for the amount of people using cryptocurrencies because there is still a lot of people who are currently using bitcoin or any kind of cryptocurrency around the world and they might not counted in that study that is done by the CCAF. In my estimation i think the number of users will go around 10-20 million of people as of 2016.

I think there are lot of people who use bitcoin, because the bitcoin is commonly used in different country so that i think there are lot of people who use it in any kind of transaction and bitcoin are easy to use.

Wild guessing, it's what yiy ate trying to do with that number, maybe there us so many bitcoin addresses but how many of us have more then one wallet, how many wallet's are opened and forgotten. There is no way for us to find out how many users there is in bitcoin world, for sure much more then 8 years ago when everything started and number of users is going up, so that is one more important things, how many people use bitcoin exactly is not so relevant.

No one knows the accurate numbers of people who hold bitcoin, all I know there's a thousand bitcoin holder in this industry.
And I don't know if there have the history record to trace the bitcoin holder through their bitcoin wallet addresses, is that possible to determine it?

No, no one stores information about people using bitcoin through their wallet address. Bitcoin is completely secure, owner, no one knows about the money they have. I'm sure of that. When it comes to the number of people using bitcoin, we can use surveys to get more information, but that's relative information, it is not exactly accurate.

blockchain.info wallet claims they have over 7 million users, right on the wallet homepage.

As you already told, one person can have several accounts, but I believe it is safe to assume at least 3-5 million users tried Bitcoin for short amount of time. Coinbase has at least million accounts as well, and these are verified by government isued ID - so pretty much these numbers represents real people.
Agree to this probably average is about 3-7million bitcoin user and still increasing rapidly also and because of rapid increasing the bitcoin price also rapidly increasing to 1500$ also many people are having panic because of bitcoin price.

The thing is that we are not able to even estimate the number of bitcoin users, because we dont have any kind of database with such information.
Also, assumption that one wallet is equal to one user is very stupid, it is kind of obvious that some people use way more than just one wallet service. Also, the thing is that you would have to list the addresses, and some wallets provide an option to change the address every single time you want to make a transaction ( to send btc onto your wallet).

So i think that question will never be answered.

It takes a long time to process every alt coins and their block chain to calculate the amount of transactions per day but one thing i know is that we did have around 100,000 transactions per day last year and now it has tripled by now and so is the reason we are seeing delays in transactions, even this does not provide any concrete evidence on how many people are using bitcoin, but can have an average evaluation.

What ever but still we cannot confirmly tell that how many users are their and even i agree that the increasing number of users is also the reason that the price is $1600 + right now. and if the same way it is going next month we can see the price go above $2000

I guess there are lot of people who use bitcoin. Bitcoin is commonly use in other country so I think there are lot people using bitcoin to their daily life and then the number of people who use bitcoin is rapidly increase in every seconds, minutes, hours and day has come. They use it to make more bitcoin. Some people hold there bitcoin because they wait to pump the price of bitcoin. Also they hold bitcoin and they wait to the right time to trade there bitcoin to make more money.

What if this year for sure te population grow because look the price of bitcoin its very high so its mean if the bitcoin price is high maybe they have millions of people are now using bitcoin. And everyear many people investing in bitcoin so the population is still counting.

I am sure there will be no one who can determine with certainty, but if you look at the market in 2016, then most likely most of them still survive, which in the end when prices jump in 2017, most of them certainly sell bitcoin they have.

You cannot get a good estimate of adoption by basing it in bitcointalk.org users. Many cryptocurrency enthusiast don't even have bitcointalk account. It is also hard to get a rough estimate of adoption because not all country are welcome with cryptocurrency.

From year to year users are always increasing, this is proof that bitcoin is starting to be accepted in many countries. With the velocity of money that covers billions of USD is not impossible in the end bitcoin will be a solution for people who want transactions fast, safe and easy to use. Or become an investment that promises long-term profits.

Bitcoin is a volatile crypto currency and I guess 2026 was quite good year for bitcoin so there were very few people who hold their coins as most of the investors were those who already own bitcoin and then the valuation of bitcoin was even inflated so investors just sell their coins and made just very good profit in 2026 and on the other hand there were other few investors too who hold their coin and waited for some major pump and I think they are the one who get maximum profit in last December’s month.
