Post by: PovertyByte on July 02, 2016, 10:55:36 AM
Card is finally released

Only thing awaiting is mining performance. Check back in the thread later or to the later pages if I have not gotten to updating the OP.

It will be only 192bit for memory so don`t expect match, also price will be huge with 480x debacle, 250-289$
I expect no more then 20Mh/s in ethereum

Its shame AMD can`t compete with NV so prices we see in future will stay high

it might do more than 20 due to high oc possibility, like 22MH at 80w

I am questioning the claim in that leak page about it outperforming the RX480 when there are no specs that would suggest better performance. They do have the BS chart that starts from 0.8 rather than 0 so the bar looks larger. I suspect the RX470 may perform on level with the GTX1060, bit someone has to release their card first.

If it really is 192 bit it may not exceed the RX480 in price if they really want to overtake the card.

What is the price of the card at release ? Exact release date ? I have found that the card will be released on 13 july and the price will be 250$ right ? 250$ is a bit much because after release it will get upto @300$ i am sure .

I know the MH/W figures for stock clocks. Not bad but also not a huge surprise. Can't tell more  :-X

I might actually wait for it so I can buy 1060+480 for the price of a 1070 ;D

If my maths are good:

1070 : 430$

rx 480: 230$

So the price would be 200$ ?

you mean the usual 192/8 = 24MH?

since we have 27MH at 100w for the 1070 at stock

here should be 20MH at 70w? and up to 24MH in oc at 90-100w, which would make it worse....

You forget the 84% bandwidth efficiency, so 24*0.84 = 20MH is what's to expect.

That is just a figure suggested by Amph. If that is true, it will be much better than the 480 or even 1070.

Wait for couple of days - card is nice (true 120w )
But on the perf side for eth its memory limited - for other algos its a bit faster then 970
in eth at stock its 92w at 20 mhs sharp (further is memory OC)
I dont know the price exactly - soon it will be revealed
I have final sample and will retest today and post back what I found
In gaming its a gem - beats 480 just a tad slower of 980

90w for 20MH is good, now i'm doing 140w for 20MH with a 970, 33% less consumption and same hash

but on the other algo it has still all the problem of the 1070, so waiting fix for neoscrypt  and eth on win 7...

70W :o ?!! If what Amph says, more than 20 MH/s for only 80W (even 19 MH/s would make me really happy for that consumption), I'll reserve some money and maybe buy four of these nice little monsters ;D !

I'll be able to mine at home and just pass my mom a few dollars towards electricity until I go away to college in the fall again. The 1060 is looking like it might be my ideal primary GPU for general use and mining on the side. I'll pick up a power guzzler for my old computer when I actually go away to college with electric free (technically paid for on a fixed price for the dorm)

http://www.anandtech.com/show/10478/asus-and-inno3d-tease-cusutom-gtx-1060-cards

ASUS already has 3 custom versions of the 1060 to tease

"ASUS has teased three separate renditions of the GeForce GTX 1060, as pictured above. These include a Turbo card with a blower, the Dual with two fans, and an ROG STRIX card. The last of which has the same cooler as the ROG STRIX 1080 and 1070, and as hinted by the AURA logo may feature the same RGB lighting found in the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 ROG STRIX cards."

Just to come back on my thought. By re-reading the OP, I saw that the TDP was 120W, just as the RX 470. If that's not 80W as I thought, there's not a big deal here...

that's the tdp, you can tweak your power limit to have 80 at 20, hell i can do 140w at 20 with a 970, there is no reason to believe that a 1060 do only 20mh at 120w, would be very bad

Well, but comparing it to the RX 470, 100$ cheaper for the same performances, led me to finally coming back to the AMD side after an afternoon at Greens' side :P.

This is what I was thinking, so I just assumed Redrose calculated this.

If it really does outperform a 970 and 980 in benchmarks, it seems very possible the 1060 could be the bang for buck sweet spot on mining. The 1070 is already exceptionally efficient on watts to MH/s

Well, but comparing it to the RX 470, 100$ cheaper for the same performances, led me to finally coming back to the AMD side after an afternoon at Greens' side :P.

This is the part where I am confused. In hardware specs I do not understand why the 1060 outperforms the rx 480. If it is indeed true that it outperforms the 480 on benchmarks with a lower TDP than this is simply incredible. In terms of listed specs, the rx 470 seems like a better choice

I am basically grabbing the first one to release with an aftermarket design.

Were the stats you provided (92w at 20MH/s) on stock clocks, or OC'd?  Also, I assume the 92w is the mining wattage minus the idle wattage, correct?

20MH on lyra2v2 with only that speed seems not good, a 970 do the same with 20w more, so i think you need to oc it to squeeze more serious hash without increase too much the wattage

That's probably what I'll do, so my choice will surely be the 1060 given that's there's still no release date for the RX 470. I'll surely at final buy at least one aftermarket card of each brand of both cards so no need to choose which one is the best :D !

There are many issues/errors with 480 i will not suggest your to buy it .
Check this thread about the issues of 480.

I suggest you to buy 1060 instead of 480. However 480 is cheaper then 1060 and gives better performance.

Yep it's here. NDA is lifted so those who reviewed it partially can say it all finally. And we need just wait for the ETH stats

Newegg does not have it up and neither does Amazon. We're on a slow start unfortunately

https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/4thio7/gtx_1060_review_launchday_megathread/

The RX 470 released benchmarks now with no known release date still. We should see something about the GTX 1060 soon. Unless it is a dud for ETH and mining in general I am getting the 1060.

Someone else would know better than me. Core clock matters less than memory clock when it comes to ETH?

Eth has a mining market of 300k usd a day, which is 10x of lbry and siacoin and 100x or if not 1000x of sgminer/ccminer coins. For large farms eth is the more sensible option.

ethereum right now is very good at soaking up all that big chinese farm that otherwise would instakill anycoin

i can give it this

If the baclordered newegg prices hold at 250, it could beat the RX 480 for efficiency and motherboard longevity. Although I do not know if the lack of SLI is a mining problem.

No thanks. They themselves just dishonored the price for an inferior reference model.

I would wait for the ASUS STRIX rx 480 instead with the 8-pin connector or for one of the other GTX 1060 cards

if a 1070 can do 270 with oc, a 1060 should be 200(minimum 180) with oc

neos need to be fixed, because a 970 can do the same, and it should not be the case, also a 970 with oc can reach 750 on neos

I have 1040 kH/s neoscrypt using 1070 at 150W.
I don't think 1060 custom editions will reach 830 kH/s at 120W.
So in kH/J - 1070 is better

edit...ok saw the last post, so no one is getting this same hashrate on windows?

as expected what power limit you have there? try 80% +150 core like the 1070

So, what verdict Mhs/Price? 1070 or 1060?

1070 is 33% faster while consuing around 33% more

but here the scenario, you have a new rig, better to fill it with "5.2" x 1060 or 4 x 1070?, with 1070 you can add up other two in the future

so density here is a big factor if you plan to go big

Now there is GTX 1060 3 GB,  it has 1152 CUDA cores and same clock speeds and TDP. MSRP $200. What do you think guys, will 2x 1060 3 GB be faster than 1 1070?

totally better a single 1070. The more VGA's, the problems

Ok i see the 1060 at work , not my card , but i see 187 mhs , with overclock +150mhz on lbc :

https://s31.postimg.org/x04v7wa5n/Cattura.jpg

.

as expected what power limit you have there? try 80% +150 core like the 1070

So right now the sweet spot in the Nvidia lineup is the 1070?

Possibly if the clocks are the same speed you would get the same hash rate as the 6gb version. It seems short due to rig limits.

first use GPU-z check which memory is it?

if
Samsung clock it at +850-950 in Afterbuner (real clock of 2350mhz or so)

Micron  clock at +500-600

Run ethereum test, pls post the brand of card

I'd consider buying couple, but it seems 1070 gives a better bang for the buck ;)

You can retain more value for the 1070 after a few years of mining. So I will buy the 1070 instead of the 1060.

hashrate 18-19mhs using Genoil
got the gpu for 317$
disappointed kinda of :\
maybe its the miner problem ?

What version of windows and driver do you have? I couldn't setup ethereum mining on my 1060 with windows 10 1607 and latest drivers.

well 185 is 60% of a 1070 hashrate, which cost double yes, but it save you some components, because you have more density

you need 60% more useless components to have the same hashrate of a farm made full of 1070

for example 3(1070)rig vs 5(1060)rig, have same hash, cost is 2800(6x1070gpu+400 for components) x 3 vs 1600(6x1060+400) x 5 = 8400 vs 8000, same shit in the end

density  cost more when  a unit goes down

everyone is different bro

when i look at other algo like vtc is no way will ever buy 1070

redundantcy rules this place lower bang for buck is king ;D

from what i can tell it should do at least 20 sol, but sp said that with his miner he can do 23 sol at 45 watt, not sure if you can reach this efficiency with the open source miner

i was also interested in building a 6 x 1060 3gb rig, because of the price and the efficiency
