70W Shocked ?!! If what Amph says, more than 20 MH/s for only 80W (even 19 MH/s would make me really happy for that consumption), I'll reserve some money and maybe buy four of these nice little monsters Grin !

I'll be able to mine at home and just pass my mom a few dollars towards electricity until I go away to college in the fall again. The 1060 is looking like it might be my ideal primary GPU for general use and mining on the side. I'll pick up a power guzzler for my old computer when I actually go away to college with electric free (technically paid for on a fixed price for the dorm)

http://www.anandtech.com/show/10478/asus-and-inno3d-tease-cusutom-gtx-1060-cards

ASUS already has 3 custom versions of the 1060 to tease

"ASUS has teased three separate renditions of the GeForce GTX 1060, as pictured above. These include a Turbo card with a blower, the Dual with two fans, and an ROG STRIX card. The last of which has the same cooler as the ROG STRIX 1080 and 1070, and as hinted by the AURA logo may feature the same RGB lighting found in the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 ROG STRIX cards."

Just to come back on my thought. By re-reading the OP, I saw that the TDP was 120W, just as the RX 470. If that's not 80W as I thought, there's not a big deal here...

that's the tdp, you can tweak your power limit to have 80 at 20, hell i can do 140w at 20 with a 970, there is no reason to believe that a 1060 do only 20mh at 120w, would be very bad

Well, but comparing it to the RX 470, 100$ cheaper for the same performances, led me to finally coming back to the AMD side after an afternoon at Greens' side Tongue.

and what about power consumption?

1060 vs 1070 TPD is 120W vs 150W
so it seems 1070 may looks better in efficiency...

This is what I was thinking, so I just assumed Redrose calculated this.

If it really does outperform a 970 and 980 in benchmarks, it seems very possible the 1060 could be the bang for buck sweet spot on mining. The 1070 is already exceptionally efficient on watts to MH/s

Well, but comparing it to the RX 470, 100$ cheaper for the same performances, led me to finally coming back to the AMD side after an afternoon at Greens' side Tongue.

This is the part where I am confused. In hardware specs I do not understand why the 1060 outperforms the rx 480. If it is indeed true that it outperforms the 480 on benchmarks with a lower TDP than this is simply incredible. In terms of listed specs, the rx 470 seems like a better choice

I am basically grabbing the first one to release with an aftermarket design.

Were the stats you provided (92w at 20MH/s) on stock clocks, or OC'd?  Also, I assume the 92w is the mining wattage minus the idle wattage, correct?

20MH on lyra2v2 with only that speed seems not good, a 970 do the same with 20w more, so i think you need to oc it to squeeze more serious hash without increase too much the wattage

That's probably what I'll do, so my choice will surely be the 1060 given that's there's still no release date for the RX 470. I'll surely at final buy at least one aftermarket card of each brand of both cards so no need to choose which one is the best Cheesy !

If the price is $250, I will buy a 480 or 470. They are much cheap and much better efficiency than 1060.

There are many issues/errors with 480 i will not suggest your to buy it .
Check this thread about the issues of 480.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1494859.0

I suggest you to buy 1060 instead of 480. However 480 is cheaper then 1060 and gives better performance.

What's even better about the 1060 is that the custom cards will be available from Day 1.
