Title: Less than 355 blocks left!
Post by: Decoded on July 07, 2016, 06:04:56 AM
With the halving so near, I am hyped! You should be too!

So here comes the question - Bitcoin is about to go through a widespread state of instability. What are you doing for bitcoin?

I'm hosting a node ^_^

Bitcoin may not be able to enter the "mainstream" phase until they sort out the block size debate and stop the in house fighting that has been going on for too long now.

Ask not what you are doing for bitcoin ask what bitcoin is doing for you  :P

Price will obviously rise. I hope halving starts from tomorrow evening. :)

I already host a node but dont run it 24/7, maybe after the halving i will switch to full time node owner, but to help bitcoin along its way after the halving if price seems to be on the steady then i will buy some to add a bit more buy support to what i assume will already have plenty.  I also currently have a shop on openbazaar so i might have to add more to that.

Unfortunately, the price began to fall very sharply. A few hours ago it was about 670 dollars, and 635 dollars now. I do not like this.
What am I doing for Bitcoins. I spread information about it. I speak about the benefits as opposed to banks.

was just talking about this and just because its halving doesnt mean it will go up, although I want it to. The price was just $300 a few months
ago and the price may already be baked into the halving

Well, I am hoarding my coins and are not dumping because the price will be going up. There are a lot of people, who wants to cash in on this event, but they are going to cry like little babies when this thing goes to the moon after the Halving event is over and all the hype and speculation has calmed down.

Just imagine that you selling at say $700, thinking that it is the best price and it goes to $1000 to $2000 when all this is over. ^smile^

This is the way i see it as well,  imagine how you would feel if you became the next 10000 bitcoin pizza guy.  You could tell people how you used to have bitcoin and they would gasp when you tell them you sold out at a measly 700 dollars.  For me the best bet is to hold.

Surely if it is halved it will mean there are more ie double the coins????

Halving is just few days away and the bitcoin current price is 660$. How can it goes to 1000$ in just a day or two.
I think 700$ is a good price to sell the coins.

I'm predicting nothing special will happen because of the halving.

Price will continue to increase and decrease because of unknown causes, miners will continue to mine, block size will not increase, network will continue congested and shitty.

I think the recent dump in price from 700 level back to 600$ range is by whales to grab few more cheap coins before halving. Within few days we may experience a huge pump beyond 800$. Although i am quite feared to see this dump just few days before halving.

I would guess it depends on the margins the big miners are making.

If the price is below their costs one can only assume that they will stop mining in the short term. It all boils down to the elasticity of Bitcoin demand and the proportion of Bitcoin supply that was not recently mined.

This is really exciting. I am actually on vacation and was planning not to come online... but really excited to know what's going on! I guess we are having a smooth sailing now.

how many block are mined per day ?

3600 coins at present.

The real effects of halving are going to take months to absorb. And people keep getting the words 'supply' and 'production' mixed up. If the price is right there will always be enough supply.

Approximately 144, it should be something like 1 every 10 minutes.

There will always be the same number of blocks mined. It's the block reward that reduces. If the number of blocks mined fell too then we'd have more than a few functionality problems.

Well said! I think it might take considerable time for a new equilibrium to be found, too. If that will mean higher fiat valuation as a lot of people here have been constantly suggesting remains to be seen. It's also possible that miners will bring new hashing power in operation faster to compensate for a perceived loss in revenue and in turn production of new coins might decrease less significantly than expected. Another alternative scenario would be miners hoarding less coins and selling more coins at exchanges to pay for electricity.

Further, miners could stop mining, because it is no longer profitable. In turn, total hashing power will decrease significantly. This might trigger a psychological reaction that draws Bitcoin's growth into question. As a result, buying demand for new coins decreases.

In all these scenarios, fiat/Bitcoin exchange rate might not increase at all. Whatever happens, I think the halving is a great event to celebrate the very existence of Bitcoin. Therefore I treat myself to a nice cold beer at the halving.

ya.ya.yo!

Do you think that many buyers pay attention to that statistic? I doubt the vast majority have the slightest clue. And the hashrate gave up relating to reality a long time ago. They will pay attention if the difficulty adjustment screws with how things operate of course.

If it was to happen do you think people will starts dumping their coins just before or just after halving?
It is also a possibility that the recent price spike may have been partly caused by some whales buying up due to the halving hype and will dump just before the event to clean up but probably only a small part, most will dump a day or two after if that's what there planning.

Well if bitcoin will really have a big pump on it's price it would be great for the people who hoard their bitcoin since last year but not for me I guess ;D becuase I frequently used some of my coin before I have no choice but to sell it because if I wouldnt do that I am not able to take my exam the next days ;D

I'm not excited because see the bitcoin price today, it have been decreased for more than $60, maybe it will be counted as a dump, then if the price increases because of the halving to tell others that wow the price has been increased because of the halving, simple it isn't making any sense.
