Brazil seems to be the consensus favorite to win Gold going into the tournament for obvious reasons including home field throughout. They will be familiar with the weather and playing conditions and they will have overwhelming presence and support from their people. With that comes big pressure as their supporters will expect them to perform and take Gold. Argentina is next favored as they are next-door neighbors to Brazil and and will also have huge fan support in attendance as well as big pressure to do well. Germany is the third favorite. They have a very strong team and should easily advance to the Second Stage considering the other teams in their group. Portugal is another favorite. They are still riding high on their Euro 2016 Championship Title.

I don't think any of the European teams will take the Olympic football tournament seriously. The new season starts soon and they are already pretty tired after the conclusion of the Euro 2016. Well, it's not the World Cup, but I do think there will be a lot of pride at stake. And as others have said there will be young, new players hungry to prove themselves and wanting to take advantage of this opportunity to showcase themselves to all the scouts.

Usually in the Olympic games teams go with the reserve players. And be ready we can see a lot of surprises here. My money is on Argentina to win the gold medal even though it looks as though they have the toughest group. Argentina seem to do very well at the Olympics and I'm expecting them to do well again. Olympics football is more difficult to predict that World Cup and Euro competition. Many of the strong countries don't take this competition seriously so it would not be surprising to get an underdog win this tournament. My prediction is for Columbia to win this as they are playing in the South America continent which is like a 'home' to them.

I am done with typing, or rather following favorite team in football tournaments. It is very hard to predict a winner before even started.
Look at recent huge tourneys, mainly Euro 2016 - bookmakers and gamblers alike typed France or Germany to win - instead Portugal won.

I would like to see what Portugal can do. They had to change almost the entire team after qualification, because their players were not allowed to participate in the Olympics since their home teams did not let them. Those matches are rather low level. I can't believe Argentina lost so quick. It is a shame that Football in olympics is a very second-tier tournament compared to the proper football tournaments,  becuase most players are away when it happens since they had recent cups (like Euro cup and America cup)

I think Portugal seems to be more in shape and Germany will this time face a very difficult task. Portugal sovereign went by in a reasonably tough group, while Germany still with the necessary luck managed to get a spot in the last eight. In itself it is better to leave the match left. If you have the game still like to make some more exciting, then the idea to have confidence in the Portugeze team. It will be a difficult game to predict but iam opting for Portugal to qualify

I agree, U23 teams not like their senior team. The young players have the stamina and high spirits. I prefer to take both teams to score or over 2.5 goals.

Today very nice match will be played between Germany and Portugal, it seems this one a little bit tough to make prediction about the result of this match, but overall Germany playing with very good momentum and their motivation is so nice to move forward towards the gold medal, I think Germany will win this match.

I watched the first 2 brazil games and they were very boring.  It is a shame as the olympics should be the #1 thing to win then next up should be the world cup.  The only reason though is money has changed football so much.  I got to say i have had a better time watching olympic sports vs over paid football nancies.

It's tough to predict about the Gold Medal winner, it looking Brazil and Germany are very strong teams to play final match there, BTW I have my bet on top 3 teams on Germany @1.78 which I placed before the quarter final matches, I am pretty sure Brazil and Germany will be in the final game for sure.
