You have the ticker backwards for Ethereum and Ethereum Classic. It should be Ethereum Classic=ETC and Ethereum=ETH. This will cause confusion.

I think most of everyone on this forum knows the acronym of these two well know coins by now.
And the price difference between them can be shown to prove that. ;)

NAUT is not a coin.
XRP is not a blockchain.
LEO is a bowel movement.  EDRc very similar.
Plus lots of ICO garbage, certain puff it's gone, in 8 moons from now.

Missing top10 contenders:

Digibyte
Black
Decred

Also Altcoins vs DAC/DAO projects vs token/assets needs defined.  Clearly some confusion.

 ;)
WILD CARD! Nice to see POT on the list, it has just high enough inflation to force market volitility, which is redistribution, and it is branded with a very popular product, so yes you just might see POT as one of the primary blockchains in the future, the past distribution numbers are great also.

here's a poll from april

But which option is which? I nearly voted for Ethereum by just looking at the ticker. Other people will as well.

its not about the integrity or dev team behind the coin. its about the people's  favourite. even LEO is considered mlm but still many people trade and vote for it.

I would like to see UNIQREDIT platform's UNIQ in the list. You can find the announcement thread here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1543861.0). I think, UNIQ will become very popular in the future due to being first in P2P lending using blockchain so if you add it now, you save yourself from some work for the future and in the meantime people who know UNIQ already could vote.

It is clear that Dash are doing well in these days , the price is increasing daily , it is now more than $13 , the second cryptocurrency after Bitcoin , more than $ 90 m marketcap , I think the price will increase more , because of the last updates , thus I voted for Dash .

Alright. I will return to this suggestion later when the trade volume is finally high. I can see your thread contains more than ten altcoins so I suggest also considering renaming your thread from "Top ten AltCoins". I could imagine a thread title like "Our most popular altcoins now" or similar that would be correct even if you changed the size of the list.

  • What is the minimum trade volume that the coin needs to reach, though, in order to become nameable into your list?
  • Will it stay static or relative to the current lowest-value entry in your list?
  • Do you want to keep this thread up to date in the future as well?

Actually, I see more than 10 altcoins in the list lol. I also am wondering whether OP is willing to update the thread in the future when altcoins change their positions in value. OP said it was a list to collect the most popular altcoins now.

there is no such absolute thing for trade volumes. coins are based on volumes marketcap and popularity.

the op is top ten altcoins because people can choose upto ten altcoins. i m asking people to vote their top ten coins and i m gathering data.

I'm actually surprised that Monero has more votes than Eth or Lite or Doge since I thought Eth would actually have more because of it's popularity. I thought there would only be a small percent of people mining monero. But surprisingly Monero proved it's importance as many gambling sites has it as one of the payment system accepted.

As altcoins become more popular, the masses may not understand Ethereum, Lisk etc, they will simply want some simple coin they can spend online to buy their stuff with. So, is there a limit to the long term popularity of assets like Ethereum, Lisk, Waves, Ripple etc, over simpler more 'traditional 'coins' like Dash, or Bytecoin etc etc.  Could we end with a situation where, put very simply, Geeks buy Ethereum, Lisk etc, but the masses of people all over the world buy and use more traditional 'coins' that have a very simple function, IE that of transferable tokens of exchange (like £ $ )

I would pick Gridcoin (GRC), as it is one of the more interesting coins out there. It's idea is brilliant but also easy to understand for people not in crypto before, see for example this thread that was on the frontpage of reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Futurology/comments/4b4drk/a_currency_minted_by_doing_science/t1_d16hch5

It replaces mining with doing research for scientific projects, for example to cure Ebola (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/oet1/overview.do), fold proteins (https://boinc.bakerlab.org/) or find aliens (http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/).

From a user's point of view, he simply has to run simulations from the different projects using the BOINC software (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/). Then the network comes to a consensus, who has contributed how much computing power to BOINC, which can be seen for example here (http://www.gridresearchcorp.com/gridcoin/?result&t=CPID_Leaderboard). This process is decentralized among all nodes, there is no central server issuing all coins like it is for example the case with Curecoin. In some blocks this consenus is saved in the blockchain and the reward one gets when staking a block is proportional to how much research was recently done for BOINC by this researcher.

The network is secured with Proof of Stake, but there is an additional (much bigger) reward depending on how much research the boinc account associated with the staking node has done.

Setting it all up has been quite complicated in the past, but the pool on pool.gridcoin.co has made alle this easier and already has more than 1100 active miners/researchers (http://pool.gridcoin.co/rankings)

I also has very active development, here is the main forum: https://cryptocointalk.com/forum/464-gridcoin-grc/
More information and tutorial to set it up here: www.gridcoin.us

With Verium ICO ending soon, and the launch of the Verium and Vericoin duality. A two protocol crypto currency and commodity system on the same block chain....I think it will surprise a lot of people

I dont see any advertising for etc maybe they dont need that since they are already gain the popularity came from eth, and the competition among these two helps really a lot so etc will be nice and buyable coins to the traders maybe we should wait for further updates maybe we can see more aspiring coins in this incomibg future and the one i see that goes rising now is the stratis coin.

I remember when I first read about DogeCoin I thought it was a fun kind of altcoin and did not expect any high-tech from it in the long run, but I never regretted having some as it is good for exchange and accepted by an amount of providers. I prefer to use it for test purposes like testing a new exchange and to be honest it still does well for that.

I honestly can't rely on ETH and ETH classic since the DAO attack and the hard fork that happened. I worry of the stability for now, but certainly would keep watch for it to improve and for the majority to move to one ETH. I prefer Litecoin and Dogecoins cause they've been running for a long time now, and are good forks.

Well Bitcoin will either cement its place and multiply in value OR will slowly be taken over by newer cryptocurrencies and eventually die. The cryptocurrency world is only a few years old and things are moving very fast; I don't think anyone can make predictions about how things will go

Hey all. What makes a cryptocurrency "great" is pretty subjective for now.

It will come down to, IMO, some key points in the future but as of right now - all speculation.

So long as exchanges are centralized - there will always be a point of failure.

Also there are vast differences of opinion when it comes to...
1. Developers and Blockchain Enthusiast's.
2. Traders and Marketmakers.
3. Ideologies and Convictions.

Which makes this space so damn intriguing.

*I didn't know you could vote for 10 different Cryptocurrencies so I simply voted for VeriCoin.
(For multiple reasons that I won't go into here).

But since I'm here... well... here -

In no specific order:

Peercoin - Sunny thought outside of the box.
Monero - Great community and tech focused primarily on individual's privacy.
Ethereum - Massive project with some brilliant minds behind it.
Ethereum Classic - Interesting pushback from an idealistic yet brutally honest group.
NXT - Some of the greatest minds in one place.
Litecoin - Still has a strong Community despite some setbacks.
DASH - Evan and the team are smart.
MaidSafe - Plausible technology and use case going forward.
SteemIt - Great use case although it appears that they may need to rework their rewards system for the long term.
Primecoin - Solid use case that has gone unnoticed or under appreciated.

*Also - Gridcoin, Nexus, Curecoin, Synereo.
**I haven't had the time to check out Waves or Lisk so can't comment on either.

Cheers.  :)

community etc is community eth, but after dev eth does not recognize, and does not become part of the ETC

Exactly. And that's important in these STILL early days. Having a solid purpose to exist makes complete sense.

*However I was speaking with Effects2Cause and Pnosker and him brought up some good points about how having a single use-case based currency might actually do the opposite of what it's intended to do - actually devalue it over the long haul. Which seems counter intuitive but it was well explained. Maybe I can have them chime in on here to explain their reasoning.

I like all those coins which have good team, good future planing and proper roadmap. I am talking about new altcoins and the ICO's some time investing in new coins make you very good profit. and now POS coins are too much which is to be honest very nice technology. you can generate lots of coins by staking some coins in your wallet and you can trade with them.

Would easily have to go with ETH and XMR, my two favorites and the best alt coins out at the moment.

You forgot to add Darknet [DNET]. It's in my opinion one of the most promising alt. It has all the features of dashcoin while being POS. So no more asic race. It's the first of it's kind. you should really look into it :).

Still no shadowcash..hmmm trying to suppress legitimate projects.. i don't think so.

Shadowcash It is now the top POS anon coin and for good reason.

there are a lot of lies going around  about SDC please do your own research.
Yes we had a bug and it was fixed promptly but transactions were still protected by shadowcash’s stealth addresses
I have been with project for 2 years and personally donated to them i would not do so if i did not trust them.

the lead developer Rhyno even revealed his identity in full

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/shadowcoin-lead-developer-rynomster-shadows/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUuk3W4tSzo interview with rhino.

The team are very real, very loyal to their community and have a great vision that they pursue with a fierce passion.
If there is anything i have learnt from spending over 2 years with this community.
Its that the team take users security and privacy very seriously and are generally pissed off about the Orwellian society that we are quickly becoming as am I.
I know when the Bug was found in shadowcash it was a real kick in the guts to them and they felt like they had let us all down, that shows they actually care about the community.
this isn’t about money for them thats why for 2 years they have developed with almost no funding, SDC had no IPO/ICOs Premine Instamine the dev hold little coins and thats a fact.
they do this because they believe in it and thats why i stick with them for so long.

Our new GUI 2.0 with end to end encrypted chat/group chat soon decentralised market much more.

Not all the coins I wanted to vite for are here so I just voted for the best one which is steemit. It has a much better chance to survive since it is needed to blog successfully and is backed well. Many altcoin have no backing and have not much to offer other then their exchange value in bitcoins.

apparentely, top 10 sh*tcoins? and i would still prefer marketcap..

This is a poll so it has the right to be like this. But I agree with you on marketcaps, I would prefer that too because IMO it gives you at least an impression on an alcoin's credibility.

I think the table on this site https://coinmarketcap.com/ is pretty accurate. I was surprised btw that Steem, an altcoin I barely heard about, has such a huge Market Cap, $77,477,259. For unknown reason I never paid attention to this coin.

top 10 altcoins these days are those altcoins with an anonymous feature built into them because it is the most famous feature of this year starting last month and all of them are rising big time. an example that we all saw was MXR which is still moving up after resting a little bit on lower prices.

Well, in fact, as you can see, doing a sorting on voting list on this thread, this is the result:

Lisk (LSK) -                    118 (11.5%)
Ethereum (ETH) -           109 (10.6%)
Monero (XMR) -              71 (6.9%)
Ethereum Classic (ETC) - 59 (5.7%)
Litecoin (LTC) -               57 (5.5%)
Waves (WAVES) -           47 (4.6%)
Dash (DASH) -               44 (4.3%)
VeriCoin (VRC) -            43 (4.2%)
Dogecoin (DOGE) -        38 (3.7%)
Factom (FCT) -              37 (3.6%)

But in the market actually this is in top 6  to be precise, but remember this does not mean that always stays the same in the future.

Maybe there are fewer Monero supporters in the this forum or they are not interested in voting.

Therefore, Hillary should give credit to Donald's very self-destructive behavior.
