First of all, Litecoin uses the Scrypt hashing algorithm instead of the SHA256 hashing algorithm. Scrypt is much more CPU-friendly, which means that you can mine it easily at home without any custom hardware. Another notable difference between Litecoin and Bitcoin is that the Litecoin network has the capacity to produce four times as many Litcoin units compared to Bitcoin (84 million). However, I'm not quite sure whether those differences are really enough to set LTC sufficiently "apart" from BTC in order to be successful long-term. I am getting a decent hash rate cpu mining. If anything, I can convert my LTC to BTC.

Ull be lucky to pull 0.001 or even less of an Litecoin using cpu to mine with. If you using multi cpu ie x4 x6 x8 or i7 etc then still it will be very low amounts you generate. Would you happen to know of a calculator to determine the hash rate for scrypt mining?
