Title: Very Beginner Used A.....
Post by: DickGizinya on September 14, 2016, 04:59:43 AM
....VPN while setting up a Bitcoin Wallet on a laptop. Is that going to cause a problem in the future when transferring BC ?

This is soo different then any funds transfer I've ever done. So explain it as if I were, say, just born. Thanx.

Firstlt why would you use a vpn?
Second. I don't think it matters. Just create a backup of your wallet just in case.

Your IP address does not matter when creating a bitcoin wallet or sending a transaction. You don't need to worry about having used a VPN, you will be able to send your coins just fine. The only thing that is need to send your coins in the future is access to the private key that is stored in your wallet for signing the transaction. Don't lose your wallet.dat or secret phrase that you wrote down and you will be fine.

To Cloverdale: Why wouldn't you use a VPN? It hides your real ip address and makes you more difficult to track, especially when the VPN service provides no logs. It is becoming quite an essential service if you value privacy.

what kind of bitcoin wallet did you make? was it one of those web wallets like coinbase?

- if yes, then you may encounter some troubles because you are not using bitcoin when using services like coinbase instead you are using an account that has bitcoin and you have to follow the sites rules.

- if no, there is nothing to worry about. bitcoin is not a centralized bank to monitor what you do and where you come from to block you.
you can even generate a bitcoin wallet completely offline. a wallet is only a code that will generate a bitcoin address (private and public key from it) for you so you can receive and send bitcoin from it.

Agree, just create backup, always have a backup.
VPN shouldn't matter.

It doesn't matter VPN or Proxy you will use , just remembered the user name or email address and the password so everything will be fine if you are using any of bitcoin wallet its perfectly fine because it will as you the code was sent in your email :) and you will put that there. to open again your account.

Nah, Ips are not going to matter in the transaction process. Remember the identifiers, and emails/passwords.

However some sites can be blocking VPN ips, be aware of that.

What countries are blocking online bitcoin wallets? Because I don't know anything about it.

We can use local software wallets and nothing beside total internet ban will block us from using BTC.

VPN will never be a problem while creating bitcoin wallet and it will not cost any lroblem or sending bitcoin from another bitcoin wallet address and i can guaranteed that because i already tested it before i told you blockchain.info is the best bitcoin wallet for me so far

i do not know why you have set that vpn security because i beliv only a wallet security is enough and no one waamts to trace you from bitcoin network anyway using a bitcoin wallet is very easy just let anyone deposit some btc in your wallet and then you cam send it to someone else

As long as it's not an web based wallet, there isn't going to be any problems.
If you still want to protect your anonymity, you should use the VPN when your wallet connects to the internet.

I would think this is the reason why he used a vpn in the first place. Because his country does not really allow these wallets to connect to internet.
Kind of a stupid rule if you ask me. But for all that we know he could be in North Korea or Russia.

i don't know about north korea but it is not illegal in Russia and they have been allowing bitcoin usage for some time now.
besides you can always use another wallet if communication of bitcoin-qt over 8333 is blocked. i just checked Electrum and it is using 50002

and if i am not mistaken you can do some changes to core to use another port and maybe hide the traffic!

anyways, you don't really need any of that, even if all is blocked you can still generate an address offline, sign transaction offline and broadcast it using a website like blockchain.info push tx feature.

maybe because on ads some VPN can increase user's internet speed , and sync can be faster , at first i think like that , but no different :/

It might raise some red flags with companies that has to adhere to strict anti-money laundering regulations, if they pick up that you are trying to hide your location or your identity. You might sign up with false documentation and then also try to mask your location. This will then lead to accounts being frozen or locked.

I would suggest you read the wallet provider's ToS and see if they prohibit the use of proxies and VPN's, before I use their service.

By vpn plug in you can be anonymous in online and no one can't reach your location. Obviously to say your find many people here who are using vpn to be anonymous in btctalk. Just have own vpn and show your ip in different location.

Which VPN service did you use? Normally it's not a problem but if you are using a web wallet it could be.

First of all I don’t understand why did you do that, why you used VPN to set up a bitcoin wallet there is no need of that but also if you have done that I don’t think there is any problem in that and you can also create another wallet account or just create the wallet of that one for safety.

You don't have to use VPN just to set up a bitcoin wallet unless your country prohibits the use of bitcoin. I don't think there's any country that prohibits Bitcoin as of today. Anyway, to answer your question, No. It'll not make any problem in the future when you're going to transfer BTC to another wallet address. Even if you change your IP address every time you use the bitcoin wallet, it's okay.

No need for VPN mate, just register at an online wallet but it's even better if you make a paper wallet and collect your coins there cause you can't be hacked but just remember where you left the paper wallet just in case :D

No, its pretty logical, sometimes if you live in other country's they block sites like blockchain.info, or youtube.com which means u need to use a vpn.

i think its no problem while bitcoin transaction not depending you use VPN or not, its need internect connection, the fast connection is better but slow connection is fine.

don't forget to make a backup in a week at least so if something happen with your bitcoin wallet software, you still have a backup.

I think it does not care if you are using vpn.. and you can transfer your bitcoin if you install your wallet properly.
Even you are using vpn you can be still transfer the transaction or talk other people here.

If you are using exchange wallets like Coinbase and Xapo you could get some problems if you use VPN, because this exchangers track your initial IP. But if you are using your pc wallet there is no problem, bitcoin is decentralized currency already

When a bitcoin transaction is being made we see that an IP is attached to that transaction but that is not the sender's IP.

VPN can be needed but can also not needed because it's not something that can hide you 100%

Tell me that, how you assume that there is no problem on  trading. What ever work there, It will be with difficulties. So we need to plan according to them.Mainly due to scammers we need to plan accordingly.

In my own understanding  vpn  doesnt affect at all since  bitcoin transafers would do really matter on which  btc address you sent the  funds or money no matter  what  vpn you used as  long the address is correct.

VPN is totally not needed. Since you are having this problem, for me is a good one. I assume you used a web wallet which is in my opinion and many other experienced members here the worse option for storing your bitcoin wallets.

Install Electrum on your PC and never worry if you used a VPN or not.
Electrum.org you have all the information needed there.

Would recommend you simply download Breadwallet for IOs or Mycellium for Android - or buy a Trezor if you have a large amount of BTC.

So TIL that a VPN doesn't interfere with setting up your BTC wallet. Today was a good day  ;)
