Dubai has announced plans to use blockchain, the database technology behind crypto currency bitcoin, for all government documents by 2020. when keeping money becomes hard , convert them to crypto , with time their value will appreciate and even managing funds will be easy. But first of all, making a pre-announcement for something to be planned to happen years into the future is not a binding decision. So in reality, exactly nothing might follow the announcement.
What's even more important is the lack of technical understanding that is implied by the announcement: The Dubai government wants to use a private, centrally controlled blockchain, not a decentralized one. But the very reason to use a blockchain at all, is to enable a decentralized currency. For a centralized application, a traditional database is far more efficient. Why do you think that if they use blockchain technology then they will use bitcoin, why not they will start their own coin and implement all developments on that coins.
