Title: How many times have you've been scammed?
Post by: alphablitzer on November 29, 2016, 10:57:52 AM
What are your bad experiences in bitcoin? Not just scammed by other users it could also include HYIP, Cloud mining scams, investment scams, etc. I know it's a bad thing that happened, I think it's better to share them here so you could vent out on what you are feeling.

Feel free to post anything.

I've been scammed by a few alt coins but never been to excited to throw btc at hyps and very obvious cloud mining scams. My overall profits out way the losses so I have nothing to vent. I do however warn not to invest in anything more than you can afford to lose.

Honestly, so far, none. Doing all I can and having full attention in order not to be scammed. I can only say I've escaped from a scam by inches (exchange closed down with customers funds right after I withdrew). Close call :)

That must make you feel lucky to get your BTC withdrawn before the site scams. Very lucky like you and not been scammed yet  :-*

I think almost everyone has been hacked/scammed sometimes in Bitcoin. For me, I lost a few bitcoins back in 2013 :(

I'm still quite new to the bitcoin community and I had just rather bad investments and bad gambling decisions too. I'm doing my best to profit in some ways that could help recover from what I lost.

i had been scammed so many times, when i was still newbie in bitcoin, i was mislead into Ponzi, the first ponzi i joined paid two times and the third times it ran away, and then i tried HYIP i split my coin into 3 HYIP, all of them are scams. I don't earn anything from HYIP, joined fresh cloud mining got scammed before ROI, so now i always encourage newbie or anyone else to avoid all of this things, bitcoin is a world with a lot of scammer you need to be extra careful

I think you know the risk before you invest in hyip. Because it is their warning on their website. There is no such profit on cloudmining and ponzi. The only legit on cryptoworld is trading and investing on crowdfunding. Gambling is too risky so i won't suggest it but it is more safe than hyip

Just once, by downloading a virused bot for a dice game. The creator made the first two versions legit, and the third one stole your money as soon as you got over 0.001 in your account. I do not know what happened to that guy, but he stole my money and I reported that.

For me: twice... I once invested in what later turned out to be a ponzi cloudmining company. They made a lot of effort to make everything look legit... Fake whois, phone number, address, photoshopped images of hardware.
They payed out for a while, and afterwards disappeared with the remainder of my funds.

I've also had a guy defaulting on a loan i gave him long ago (somewhere in 2015). He gave his account as collateral but he took 2 loans at the same time and didn't give collateral to the second guy, so his collateral was red-tagged by the other victim and became useless to me.... I'm going to count that one as a scam aswell.

None; thanks to paying close attention. Going great so far! I have been able to avoid a great many ponzi schemes on which i have stumbled upon in the past three or so months, but never tried (and never will try, now) to invest anything.

I don't count cloud mining services, they cheated me few times but I lost time needed for registration and claiming their free hash, I deposited one dollar once and nothing more. I read what is happening here, and I'm more into gambling, there I didn't have problem's. I lost many times, and sometimes I felt like everything was set up, but that is paranoia from loosing. I don't thing casinos are rigged.
Before doing anything people should pay attention, check here what kind of service you choose to deposit your money.

How many times? I can not count already LOL

When I was just starting from bitcoin, I joined so many faucets sites. Some are paying, and some are not. I Also joined several HYIP's program and mostly I lost and did not recover. Joined some cloud mining too. See? So many experience already  ;D

Until one day, I discovered https://bitcointalk.org, I mean this site and read topics here. I learned trading here and I am very grateful of this site as it gives me real opportunity to earn online. I am also earning from signature campaign.which is also a great way to earn while expressing your ideas.

Ive experienced already being scammed on HYIPS,PONZI sites, Altcoin and ICO scams and somehow lose up money on trading since i was still a newbie  on that time and dont have enough knowledge into things thats why.
Same as yours,i do find this forum and already know about those past mistakes that ive done and i learned too much on this site,.

I have lost few mBTC with one Nigeria based altcoin exchange (really could not recall its name). Till date I regret for what action must be cex.io cloud mining investments. I bought hash power for more than 0.2 BTC but recovered less than 0.1 BTC, it is not scam yet. But I have not reached ROI with them and my hash power is simply sleeping there.

I`ve never used any cloud mining, hyip websites and i don`t understand why people continue

I have been scammed quite a number of times and I have regarded all as a form of lesson. Firstly was as by HYIP as I was a novice. I saw this nice site with all the promises and the likes and I was like " i could really make a cool money" but alas the dream was cut short my money went down the drain. The other one was when I wanted to exchange Bitcoin to FIAT, I was actually still a novice then too. I was scammed and because Bitcoin is irreversible, I lost my money...

I've never been scammed within the Bitcoin realm. Maybe I was just lucky. Maybe I'm not an attractive target for scammers, because I'm not rich. Maybe it's because I'm a rather paranoid individual... :D I don't really know. But I witnessed other people being scammed and took extra precautions for myself. After all the characteristics of scams in the cryptosphere are no different than in real life (for example making up fantastic stories, promising big returns), so if you pay attention and don't fall for your own greed, you can quite easily spot a lot of potential scams. That said, you can never be sure what the future brings - maybe I will fall for a BTC scam some day.

Although I'm not a victim myself I feel a lot of compassion with those who suffered from a scam. Scammers are one of the most gutless and malicious kind of criminals, who also do great damage to the perception of Bitcoin. They deserve to burn in hell.

ya.ya.yo!

Hmm., it's a sad story or experience. It all does happen because we haven't learned the science or it could be said that any of the things we do and get bad results then it is a learning more means than formal learning (school). So every experience will make a very big Foundation and will eventually create a huge advantage for those who are willing to be patient

I have invested in several cloudmining services, the company shutdown before I got my ROI.  I never invested in HYIP's and ponzi sites since I'm well aware about this stuff.  I thought cloudmining is different because way back that time, cloudmining is very popular, then it turns out to be a big ponzi scheme.

I can say that I have been scammed by hyips 10 times or less. after being scammed for how many times then I got tired of putting some of my coin to some of fake investments especially those doublers because I realized that i will be losing more and more of my hard earned satoshis so I stopped and avoid being fooled by these scammers.

I got scammed one time in a high investment at risk, now I try to do my due diligence before investing or try something new on the internet. The feeling is never cool when you invest your hard earned money or bitcoin and lost them all, people can't lose faith.

Also when I joined the bitcoin community this past summer I wanted to invest in bitcoin mining, but before I wanted to make the move, the site shut down ;).

We could really not avoid these kind of circumtances at first time because of lack of knowledge thats why we fall easily into these schemes because when we are a newbie we  are mostly like to earn money on a fast way without any hard works involve thats why we put up directly our money on this HYIPS and hoping and believing that it will give us good money on the long run but most of them ran away on earlier times and its really frustrating  especially the money you invest on is a hard earned money same as you mentioned.

I think I have been scammed for quite lot  :'( As I can remember that when I first know about bitcoin, I was obsessed with those "promising and potential" investing sites and I risked to put all bitcoin into them with the hope of getting back more profit. But I was so innocence and risk-taking so after a couple of times, my bitcoin balance dropped to zero. After those painful experiences, I've promised to myself that I will never spend any of my coins for these things  ;D

I am one of those lucky fellows how have not been scammed yet, although I once invested into some kind of highly profitable investment (just a few dollars).
And for some reason I actually got the promised amount back.
That was at my beginnings with bitcoin. After that I never tried to invest anywhere else. Don't want to push my luck.

have only lost money to exchanges that run away. although i have been keeping small amounts but still that does count as scam!

but it surely is so funny to see how many have lost their money to obvious scams like HYIPs and scammy cloudmining services. sometimes it is too obvious these are scams that you are shocked when you find out there were some people who trusted them!

Bad experience may be a big term for me so I will put it into mild only. Remember the famous scry**.cc? That is only the ponzi scheme that able to put me on regrets. The amount concerned is not that high but back then, a small amount is really mean to me due to the fact that Im still a newbie when scry** is really famous in the world of cloudmining.

But there is a benefit after that loss since with that experience I learned how to deal with any kinds of investments online. Lesson learned indeed with great effect.

I luckily haven't been scammed yet, however there is still a lot of potential to get scammed with some of the investments that I'm currently using. So far they've been doing fine and it doesn't look like I'll be losing anything anytime soon, but you never know for sure.

Closest I ever got to being scammed was a really long unconfirmed transaction.

I got scammed once out of 10BTC. This was back when bitcoin was worth ~$12-$14 or so. I staked a poker player who I only knew from here on the forums for 10 btc and he disappeared with my coins. I had staked him successfully multiple times previously for smaller amounts: 1BTC, 2BTC, 3BTC and earning 10% each time which he paid promptly each time. He seemed like a nice guy, was friendly, polite, etc. After earning my trust, I staked him for 10BTC. And that was when he disappeared never to be heard from again.  >:(

I learned my lesson the hard way. Nowadays when it comes to gambling I stick to my Number One Rule(s):

When it comes to gambling, never lend or borrow and never stake anyone or ask for a stake.

I've only been 'scammed' once in the bitcoin community. It's when I was a newbie and my Blockchain.info wallet got 'hacked'. I had 2FA set up (which I never got an email) and was using the same bitcoin address I had used for a gambling website. My assumption is it was an inside job or that their algorithms for creating addresses was found out again.

That is why you don't use web wallets. I lost 0.05BTC which at the time cost me $20CAD. Today that would be $50. It annoys me still, but at least I found out early on that they were a terrible wallet. I'd hate to lose what I have now.

you should learn about this and deal again and accept paypal.. because they are still reverse or charge back the money he said to you from paypal..
Unlike bitcoin that has no feature to charge back.. or refund option..

Before i scam many online in facebook fake info and invest some money that i thought that can gives me good profit but those all are scam. so those experience gives me strong to do not trust again..

I have never been scammed, fortunately. Maybe it is not only luck but also me not trying to get involved somewhere and to earn money (I think this is how people get scammed usually. They believe they are the smartest and don't see the trap). Where are people usually scammed, by the way? Is it mining pools?

What are your bad experiences in bitcoin? Not just scammed by other users it could also include HYIP, Cloud mining scams, investment scams, etc. I know it's a bad thing that happened, I think it's better to share them here so you could vent out on what you are feeling.

Feel free to post anything.

I've been scammed many times before. First is by investing in HYIP sites. Then in Cloud Mining, Hashocean to be exact. I know there are lot of people scammed by the Hashocean right? Next is by investing in scam coin in trading. Although there are many times I've been scammed. Still I can get it back by working hard and making sure that I will not do that foolish thing again. And right now it doesn't happen anymore  ;D

I was scammed frequent times.
Specially when it comes to selling goods like TBC

Yet, I was never scammed by cloud mining and investment because I never do that.
Too many HYIP are in that industry.

Also, my worst experience is my first time I did trading in crypto currency.
I was so dumb that time.
I didn't manifested what does buy orders and sell orders mean.

Now, I put more doubt in eveything.
Should consult others befire initiating a decision.

Well back in my day my parents taught me this cool thing called common sense. I'm very lucky because I've applied it to real life and you know what? I've never been scammed.

Would you also like to never get scammed? Try these simple tips:

  • Does it sound to good to be true? Walk away.
  • Do you have to trust the other person? Then it's not for me.
  • Is there a ton of risk for you but no risk to someone else? That's a red flag
  • Common sense. We already went over this.
  • Guard your freaking money like it's a baby on your teat and you're a damn tiger. You want to hold my baby? You damn well better make it worth my while. I'm ready to leave right not. Don't screw around or I'll fight or flight on you!
  • I see a newbie selling "X" for $50 when it would usually cost me $100. RUN! Whatever you do, don't buy it. It's carded or they won't give you anything. If somehow miraculously you don't get scammed now you'll be arrested later for using a stolen card. Just don't do it!

That's about it. Anything I should add? Don't be stupid, naive? Everyone else wants your money so don't be dumb with it.

No doubt scammers are here in bitcoin world, but it is not difficult to handle them, only use your mind well and do the right work in investment. Actually, many chances of scammers are here in investment instead of trading and gambling. That's why i am not giving my amount to an other hand, because i am doing my own investment.

I got taken for some money from all these Cloud mining services, when they were still very new. I believed all the hype around the returns that I would get, and bought a lot of hashing power. I never reached ROI in any of the Cloud mining I have signed up for.

It is all funded by Ponzi type schemes, and you are just lucky when you get away from that with a bit of money.

Oh, and then I also bought some Chickens in that Chicken farm Ponzi game. It turns out, all my eggs were rotten from the start. ^grrrrr^

Good thing I did not subscribe and pay a small amount or I aould have been added to the list of those scammed. There is also a guide here on who are the bogus and untrusted sites giving different offers.

I have been scammed two times, I got sad and frustrated but later on I just accept and moved on. I know, no one should blame but only myself; it's my mistakes. In first investment is a doubler site which 36 dollars was gone and followed by 1 dollar on the other site.

so far i have only been scammed once by cryptsy when they decided to take my bitcoins and run away with it. the somewhat good news is that i only had less than 0.2BTC there before they stopped allowing withdrawals and it was stuck forever.

I could have been scammed lots of time but just because I had been into ptc sites as well before I got into bitcoin I became extra careful when it came to investing in btc hyip, cloud mining etc but still I was scammed but that's only once when I made an investment of some of my btc in a shitty doubler or btc multiplier. So I would say it's only once when I was scammed.

Even if the trader is having a positive feedback, there is no guarantee that he will not try to con you. For example, in SR 2.0, there were some vendor accounts which had very good feedback, and still cheating their clients. I don't know what happened. Perhaps some scammer hacked these vendor accounts, and then used them to rob others.

no system is ever perfect and there will always be faults, hacks, scams,... everywhere, and all the additional information like trust rating on this forum are designed to give us some guidelines not the sure thing. when you see someone with green trust vs someone with red trust it is obvious which one is a better choice and in the end we should always use escrow to reduce the risks of trading.

I do not have much to share but I have been scammed a lot of times by HYIPS because when I was new I did not had much idea about gambling and there were not much sites to invest online so I used to invest all my money in Hyips and quickly withdraw once in profit. But I am overall in loss with that thing, so I suggest everyone to stay away from HYIPS.

I guess I'm thankful for this forum that helps me to avoid those kinds of things that make the bitcoin world go bad. There are a lot of bad people using bitcoin to have transactions and then run away with your money. Nothing can lead you to profit by joining HYIP and Ponzi.

I have not tried investing in a cloud mining firm or invest in something that says you could profit. From what I've learned here in Bitcointalk, it's always a scam, especially when it has big returns (obviously when it's too good to be true, it is). Are there even Bitcoin investments that you could really earn profit from?

Actually it is unfair to say scam to the sites that is yet proven to be a scam site, but of course as client or investors we should do our own research to be able to spot this somehow fishy offers.  One of our way of detecting scam is when their offer is good to be true and u got it lol, anyway there are some investment that you can earn profit, one of which is thru investing in casino bankroll but there is also of risk on having a negative profit on that.  But I read that Beking.Io is having their ICO, so in my opinion, that would be a good investment since they have been in the industry for years, besides one of the  thread here show, in his venture in Casino investment, that BetKing is capable of giving profit to its investors.

I never been scammed because I simply do not trade or buy things from people that are not having a good feedback or not even have one these days its just so important to be on the look out.
Glad to hear that from a newbie because most of the newbies either scam or get scammed in mostly exchanges threads or lending threads. I would also give credit to the people for advertising this " no escrow no deal " slogan so much that newbies get inspired and hence avoid being scammed. Just I regret when escrow like master-p scammed.

What are your bad experiences in bitcoin? Not just scammed by other users it could also include HYIP, Cloud mining scams, investment scams, etc. I know it's a bad thing that happened, I think it's better to share them here so you could vent out on what you are feeling.

Feel free to post anything.
Luckily I have been scammed only once by one ponzi cloud mining firm.I was new to bitcoin then and saw someone was referring to this cloud mining making false claims.I got excited and sent 0.01 btc to them only to find later that all my btc disappear and also the website without any trace

Well I've been scammed before when I was just starting on bitcoin. Due to lack of knowledge on things such as 1-10days investment sites. But now that I know about those kind of things, then I'm very rarely to be scam since experience teach me how to avoid those things.

I remember when I invested in zencloud mining, I've been a victim in that sites. So after that happened to me I'll take it a lesson from my experience and got a phobia in cloud mining up to now.

Im on the same way too. I have been scammed five times before, I was a newbie at that time. But after that I have learned some things by research and asking questions how to avoid scams. So at this day I am no longer prone to scam sites but I have been gambling recently so I still lost my bitcoins to gambling sites.

In my early days here in bitcoin world, I was scammed many time as all of the HYIP I joined scammed me resulting to overall loses of quite a big amount for me. I don't remember exactly how much I lose but one thing I have proven is that never trust on investment with HYIP.

When I was a newbie, I have invested in some HYIP sites, and doubler sites because I wanted to make some quick money. I also got scammed buying small amounts of bitcoins, exchanging bitcoins into prepaid load, and P2P buying/selling altcoins. I'd say I have been scammed at least 15 times ever since. Nowadays, I don't do transactions unless I personally know the person I'm transacting with or my friends said that the said person wasn't a scammed and they have had transactions with him before.

No doubt scammers are here in bitcoin world, but it is not difficult to handle them, only use your mind well and do the right work in investment. Actually, many chances of scammers are here in investment instead of trading and gambling. That's why i am not giving my amount to an other hand, because i am doing my own investment.
It is quite simple in hindsight but its hard when we are either new or are desperate like for example you need a quick loan and a newbie says you send him account details and he sends you loan, so sometimes we might get tempted and hence the scammer takes the account. But hey guys if such things happened to you, you can claim back account.

How did you lose money with Paypal and BTC? Did you use any unknown service to make the transaction for you?

I know there are members on this forum able to make the transaction between Paypal-BTC without issues. You should check them here before use any other kind of service offering the same results. They know exactly the trick to make it works fine without later headaches.

It is unfair to generalize and call a whole type of investment a scam except in cases like HYIP where it has been proven over and over again that those sites are nothing but a scam, in that case is not unfair.

No one will advice you to refrain from giving out loans to others. But at the same time, you must ask for some collateral in return. Giving out a loan without collateral is the stupidest thing that a Bitcoiner can do.

#Real talk here and there are really people like that which they tend to be nice into others but without knowing that those people are getting advantage from you thats why you act like stupid on that situation. As sithara said you should always demand for strong collateral because even those friend of yours would not be sure of repaying back those loan they made. Such a waste of money and seems like you are running a charity :) 2 btc is already a lot.

This is not nice at all, I get how you feelin. Sithara told you nicely, be good and nice to everyone but don`t be stupid. Before giving something make sure they will able to return it in some way. This is a lot of money to just be given away, for me that is a little fortune, 2 btc in no return loans.
Well I hope you will be able to earn that money on some other way. Good luck my friend.

Fortunately I never lost any money in scams but yes I have paid some amount frequently to learn some lessons (I ended up in learning lessons by throwing money). When I started trading, I used to follow the some piece advice from the shoutbox and thus met with loss 99% or more. Definitely it was not scam but still I lost money in such cases and I learned a lot from such incidents.

If I were to tell, I would say that it happened more than 1000 times, being honest, when I arrived in this forum I believed that the HYIP sites that were posted here in the forum were legitmos. I mean, who would have thought that bitcointalk would have scammers? In my head it was like: impossible, nobody in this forum would steal something like 0.001 btc. But I was wrong. All site that was posted here, not pay. All site was just shitty ponzi sites. Sites created by thieves.

But I learned to lesson. Never invest money on ponzi sites, hyip, double.

Always do research on every site you see, every new coin you see, you should do research. Scammers do not rest and do not measure means to achieve their goals.

I have been scammed for quite a lot of times when I was still a newbie in bitcoin because of my enthusiasm about it and wanted to double my bitcoin as fast as possible, I ended up joining a lot of HYIP in short amount of time and then they all disappeared in an instance, then I tried to join lending sites like btcjam but it ended up the same cause almost all of the borrowers I funded defaulted their loans. But at least now I have the experience to see what is a scam and what is not.

You should learn right now since i think we are already experience to be scam here online so right now increase your instinct and always check every thing and ask if it is legit or not here in forum experience is the best to learn that there is no cheaper than the present price of bitcoin and there is offering 100% free money just to invest in cloud mining site or ponzi.. better to stay away and look for other way to find a good source of bitcoin..

Me too, I was thinking bitcoin mining like some magic when I was new into this and hence any site that claims that they are mining bitcoins and sharing profit, I used to fall for it. Most of the sites are scam, which I realized a bit late but anyways I have earned too a few times, loss is like negligible.

Though I can't really say it's been scammed. lol.
There was one time, over a year back, where I got to talking with a guy I've seen around on some site we've both been playing at. He was probably winning a good amount as he just suddenly gave me about $90 worth of bitcoin at the time. Then he got to talking that he was the owner of some cloud mining/hyip site and I should invest with him so I could make some money.
I was like, 'What the heck, sure, it's his money anyway.' So I went and invested $30.  ;D ;D
Not even a week after, no one's heard from him again. and I never saw a trace of those 30 bucks again..
(Quite a sad story,huh.  ;D ;D)  Haha.
Anyway, that was the only time I invested in those kinds of things.(that I can remember)

There's no safe in lending here since the collateral is just an account and it has no monetary value outside bitcoin and even if you sell that accounts it is not advisable here. I don't know if there are still a good collateral aside from what is used to here, or else you will not have to do this kind of business.

Most of the time, it's the person who you trust the most and is closest to you who will do bad things to you. A stranger don't care about you, unless you're rich. They'll not hack you if you didn't catch their attention.

Not talking to strangers is a bad thing, in my opinion. Because you shut down everyone that you don't know. What if they're the way to make you a better person? What if they can help you with whatever your struggling with right now? It's really hard not to talk to people that you don't know most especially if you have to buy/sell things. You have to be open to new people. New people means new opportunities.

Once, in cloud mining. It's a problem that many users go through at the beginning. It was not something related to the site closing and running away with the funds or something... The mining difficulty went up a lot and the value of the hashpower I was holding fell. So, I'm not sure if this can be considered scam, it's more like a bad investment.

It most likely was a scam, but it would be easier if you just say what "cloud mining" site you were using. It's very easy for fraudulent cloud mining sites to change (lower) their payouts according to the higher difficulty. It's also very easy to up their maintenance fees insanely till the level where you barely profit from "found blocks". The block halving is another welcome aspect of them as they only have to pay out 50% of what they used to pay out.

The site was hashnest. It is one of the only services with a hashmarket, but there is also too much manipulation. This was before the halving, late last year, but the mining difficulty was rising like crazy. First and last cloud mining experience.

I experience of scam both ponzi investment nad cloud mining before.. since my earnings is from faucet all of my savings from faucet earnings invested in 2 different scam site.  i learn in this forum and i do not let trust those sites again..

Me too, since we are dealing online it is like gambling that sometimes  you have to take risks. We trust too much on people we met online that is why I learned my lessons already.Just always be aware of the red flags especially on HYIP's almost all are scam. They don't last always when the funds coming in dries up.

Most of us when we are newbie has experience being scammed online, it's normal maybe especially when we are attracted with investment that gives us a good return, they are mostly the scammers in this world of crypto. But with your experience being scam buying online, I guess it's easy to avoid that, just only buy in a reputable store.

Too many times.

I have been scammed so many times in the crypto world that i have lost track counting. I usually just forget about the small scams and move on, while the big scams that run away with thousands of user bitcoins are the ones that would hit me the most personally because i would have likely also been invested in that site.

What are your bad experiences in bitcoin? Not just scammed by other users it could also include HYIP, Cloud mining scams, investment scams, etc. I know it's a bad thing that happened, I think it's better to share them here so you could vent out on what you are feeling.

Feel free to post anything.
I am scammed by about 10 times . The first time I was scammed by a person who did not release money after get Bitcoin and secondly I am scammed by many cloudmining sites including hashocean .

All HYIPs are ponzis, i hope you realise that. Doublers are also all ponzis. Nothing without proof of what their business model is and especially with such a high promised return rate is sustainable and should not be trusted.

But yes, this is a problem with bitcoin being irreversible. It is the preferred method of payment now for the HYIP industry, just after Payza and Perfectmoney. Every time you get scammed, you become better at not getting scammed. Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Well you are lucky that it is just approximately 50 to 60 dollars. Some of the bitcoin users here lost almost a thousand or.maybe a hundred thousand. Why some people here are so not trustworthy.

I've read many posts in this forum about those scam and others way to tricks you, so I won't believe on easy money to earn by investing money which could double it, seems such as scam for me  ;D

Well, So far, I haven't been scammed  ;D (and I hope I will never be), but I can tell you that greed and enthusiasm can drive people to trust scammers and throw their money off to them.
ONCE   ;D

Slummy Bastard! ;D Do you call that a scam? :P (who scammed who? you or him). And where did those $60 go?! :P (Although, I still don't understand why would he run with $30 bucks only?! I mean he could have made you invest more by giving you some profits at first, then take your bigger investment and run off. Really seems like you scammed him :P ;D)

It was a scam, since he invested in that cloud mining and cloudmining company ran.  The $90 is out of context on that scam action.  It was clear that it was given to him.  So by principle it is his money already.  And the money he decided to invest ($30) has gone like a wind.  Without any trace .

I think less 10 only was scammed me before when I start in the world of Bitcoin I don't know before the investment site / hyip/ ponzi turning into scam . but as of now I didn't invest in the ponzi because its 100% scam. I also scam an altcoin I bought a coin before and then I cannot sell it after because the owner run. As of now I did not experience scam because before to buy a coin I will checked it if the coin is a legit not scam.

Well scammers are being creative everyday.  they improve everything, they even present a much professional website than the legit one, they really want to make you believe that they are real, they even have a support person at the other end. so it is no surprise people are being scammed again and again.  One and best example is the altcoin section, you can see history of different scam coins in there.

Lucky for you that you could able to double your money with HYIPS because i do know about them that most sites closed without reaching your roi and ran off after 1-2 days since they start. This is really a normal thing for most newbies out there which they really knew or see that earning money was easy because of those doublers exist but those hopes will be broken when you experienced scams.

Well it is a legit site, but the problem is : their support doesn´t feel like answering me anymore.
When you submit a ticket on the site, it says something like ´We will answer within 24hrs´
When I sent my ticket before ordering they answered within 12hrs, after ordering they´ll ignore you. :(

Why did you invest on those websites in the first place? Were you a total newbie? The so-called "legit" cloud mining sites are just mining sites that haven't ran away from the investors yet. Even when they have been running for years already, they can run away whenever they wanted. The concept of ponzi, cloud mining, and doubler sites just fascinates me. It's like they have this magical way to multiply your money in such short period of time. But behind all those illusions is the fact that they're just using the previous investors' money.

Only once. I have been scammed when I was selling some of my bitcoin, he said to me that "Bitcoin first before the payment" and then I agreed because a friend of mine told me that, that buyer was a legit one, that's why I sent my bitcoin first, and then after I sent it to his bitcoin wallet, he blocked me already in facebook where we were having conversation about this transaction. That was a very big lesson to me, that's why I never sent bitcoin first, but payment first before I send my bitcoin.

Once working with a forum who paid me half payment upfront and the rest was to be paid after the work done but the user escaped and stolen around 50 bucks from me.
I have nothing to do I just left negative feedback to his profile.
And at the very first time I gave a person a loan and gave me his Bitcointalk.org account in collateral which was member account at that time and the account worth was 0.03 I gave him 0.04 and he never paid me that amount back.

Lack of resarch is main problem with bitcoin/altcoin scams. After some years spent here I can notice the patters of scummy behavior when I see one.
I am talking about easy to spot could mining scams or creation of "new amazing ICO" - when in reality ICO has no future at all.
In the past I was blinded by some companies which I though will never scam people - because they were like top dogs at that time - I learned that no matter how big bitcoin project is - it can go rogue.

Only once. I was so pissed with myself after, because it was so obvious to me. A guy on Steam added me and wanted to buy my inventory for 1.5 btc. It was 3 AM so naturally in my sleepy state, I was extremely compliant.

He asked me to send one thing of value before he sent me the Bitcoin, so I said I would after he signed a message. He replied with a response somewhere along the lines of "Stop wasting my time", which scared me, as this was an offer too good to pass down. So I sent him the item, worth nearly 0.15 BTC. Bad idea. Almost instantly, he unfriended and blocked me, then made his account private.

In fact, whenever I hear those words, I run the other way, fast.

Whenever I do a trade, or buy something, or pay for a service, I always double/triple/10x check everything.
I don't really get people who ignore all "warning signs" and go ahead with shady/unrealistic things. It's not as if those things haven't happened hundreds, if not thousands of times on here before.

But well, as they say, there's always a first time.

I'm sorry man, I didn't know someone is willing to scam in Steam. You should've made a feedback that he is s scammer. I think it's very hard to be scammed now in Steam because of the security features right?

That is not education my friends ,i call it ignorance :D if someone scammed you it is solely your foolish decision to trust somebody online with your money :) i do not believe virtual friends and investments and so i wont get scammed that easily

Feel free to post anything.

Or not?

People will scam anything, even in steam. In any game, scammers will scam anything that somewhat has value even when it has little value.

Scammers usually have the attitude to 'not waste their time' and they act as if they're in a hurry. Just so you wouldn't have that much time to think of the situation and you'll send your item first. I don't do deals when I'm sleepy because my mind is not in its best capabilities and I know that I might do something that I would regret once my mind is back to normal.

Always keep your bitcoin in a safe offline wallet people.

If you tried different Revshare buss. opportunities, HYIP, trading, casinos etc. I'm sure you will have different experience.
You are right, Bitcoin is the best so you don't need anything else, really.

Never, but that may be due to the fact that I'm almost never trading with unknown people. I'm usually very suspicious of people who offer me money or want money from me. I never keep my coins in an exchange, I have backups of my wallets and I'm never emotional when it comes to business.
Be careful when dealing with people, money corrupt. ;)

I have been scammed by many users many times because I had been so gentle to all of them and whenever they asked for some loans as a help, I gave them and they never returned them back. I could have easily given away more than 2 bitcoins in just loans, and even few were my friends.
Sorry for your loss dude, but I think when it comes to loans with bitcoin we must follow the rule the is in the lending forum if there is no collateral then no loan is given since you are exposing yourself to be scammed.
There's no safe in lending here since the collateral is just an account and it has no monetary value outside bitcoin and even if you sell that accounts it is not advisable here. I don't know if there are still a good collateral aside from what is used to here, or else you will not have to do this kind of business.
Many lenders are not accepting bitcoin accounts as collateral anymore since the value of those accounts has been dropping and they do not like the idea of selling accounts to other users since they could use those accounts to scam people so now most collaterals are other altcoins and stuff like that.

I also invested in HYIP and was scammed.
All I would like to tell you is that most of the cloud mining websites are there for ripping you off and you can't earn anything from them.
Yeah you are right dude. Maybe i will just try to invest my bitcoins in real investment or maybe in my wallet and just wait bitcoin will be more pricey than its price now. I read some reviews about cloud mining sites and many of them got scammed also.

It's good to say that I haven't been scammed. You should check if you're trading with a trustful person or the investment site is legitimate. It's quite easy if you just don't give out coins easily and thinking if there are testimonials that the website is safe. Do a web research first before investing and probably learn about the site first.

For me no damage...but for my members certainly and certainly for all the people who claim on faucet for 100 satoshi and not for 1000 satoshi by winspiral...
But this is only temporarely because my system which is not a ponzi is market regulated. But the damage is less members and this means less fun...less fun is worser than 100 or 1000 satoshi.

I've lost three houses, three sets of expensive jewelry, three expensive cars and more in my life. My child support payments have been more per month than most people earn working a full time job. That's sad, hope that you could get it back, but I think you can't. HYIP are really a pain in the bottom because it gets you really hooked, you think you could earn with it, they will let you see that they can make interest on your money then run away with it in the long run. What scumbags.

The thing about getting scammed is you\we tend to give others the benefit of the doubt and in the end we lose to scammer or hacker

Yeah, that's what i thought also, trusting too much could end up badly. They are just some scared person behind the keyboard, hoping that could benefit from nothing. No dignity.

It should probably have a lot of confidence or the courage to admit it. Well done. Respect. The main thing is not to fall, everyone in life can happen to be forced to cheat.

Life is a hard thing, and has hurt a lot. Sometimes it is a punch that hard, but it does not mean that you need to whine and justify their actions. I agree that the losers justify themselves. If you did that then it would be and not otherwise. Here's how to.

I lost some to Gaw miners and that was pure scam. Luckily I was able to sell paycoins before they tanked to nothing. I can't believe how many hung on after the writing was on the wall. I was dumping my miners cheap and everyone thought they were getting a bargain. Poor bastards. Could have been much much worse for me and I consider it a cheap lesson.

Lost 76 litecoins at Vircurex. That was around $800 at the time. Scam, hack, or inside job? No one knows for sure. They still show as "frozen" but I've never had any unfrozen and don't expect to after all this time.

Lost a little bit of btc at Mintpal which was pure scam/thievery. Might have been a couple scraps of something else too.

Write it off as the cost of doing business.
Actually fraud and deception all preferred in most cases to remain silent and not to dwell on what you are doing on the case itself. This issue is very delicate.

I think that the time to deceive or cheat against those who do it all the time, it does not matter, but in general can be attributed even to merit such incident.

That's really sad that you've been scammed 6-10 times. It must be really a work of art that they managed to scam you many times. Their documentation must be convincing. Cloud mining is sometimes promising, but it's not from what I've read. They would just get your money away.

Scammed on freelancer.com for $50 as I asked him to make a Script which supports blockchain Wallet API keys and he asked me to pay all money in advance, seeing his one good feedback I sent all at once and he sent me the script in a password protected RAR file. And the password he provided was false and when I was able to get the password using online brute force I found that there is nothing which worth $50. Only copied content from another Website was there. After that Incidence, I learnt how much Important the escrow service is and from there.

In real life, of course less than cheating people on the Internet. It is from the fact that the network is no punishment and no one can not get his due. But in real life, lack of skilled craftsmen in this regard. I like several times been in such situations, but I think that it is not too serious and no harm to no avail. I have never been scammed since I don't believe in HYIP. However, I lost my money in gambling  and trading, that is how I lost my money. Don't believe in HYIP because what they intend is to make profit from investors. If thou must invest, better to invest in stock market/ long term investment in forex. This will take so much of time, but garuntee no scam and will give you huge profit if you had chose the best company to invest with.

I haven't yet, sort of. I mainly do Photoshop work for bitcoin, and sometimes I will get no response after sending them the watermarked image. So I wasted my time, but at least they didn't get any free 'shops.

If a person is sure of himself, it is usually everything goes well and without any problems. That's only if someone wants to deceive someone, you do it very well, something that is very difficult to suspect.

It can be very difficult to manage if you have enough information about what to do and how. Therefore, every time comes up against the fraudster.

Nowadays you can not be too trusting, though, and believe in people and their good qualities, too, need. After all, we are very callous when acquiring a barrier between themselves and others. Not all people are bad.

Gaining knowledge here in Bitcointalk can help you a lot in understanding what Bitcoin is for, how it was created, the advantages of using it, etc. I was just scammed because of my lack of knowledge in the traders profile. I should've checked his account before making a trade, and I didn't think that's going to happen. Oh well, we all learn from our mistakes.

Words of the wise: If a lawyer from overseas emails you saying he's got 100K for you if you only send him 100$ woth of Itunes girft cards then you should probably ignore him  ;)

Edit: The way I posted that makes it sound like I've been scammed by an email like that; I know enough to avoid those things.

I don't think that this question is just about scams of bitcoin. I think he is meaning on scams in general, in life. Yes if you got email like that, i think only small percent of people would fall for it. But there are a lot of other ways people get scammed. There were some bank scams that was pretty complicated and organised, that most of people thought that they speak with bank representative. People will always find new way to scam other people...

No its misunderstanding, i didn't think you have been scammed over Email, i think you make that clear. I wanted to say that there are people who would not know that is scam and they would fall for it. I hear from friend about one attempt to scam his grandfather, over a letter. It was something like, he didn't pay for electricity or something, so that he need to pay on some bank account. But letter was fake and my friend found out about it, but if friend didn't find out i think his grandfather would pay it. Because it was small amount. For me its stupid, but i know that man, and i would not say that he is stupid. Mistakes happen.

And how not to be deceived and how to trust to someone you do not know to be sure that you. The work not only with Bitcoin, but in general the network requires very little attention. Otherwise there can be problems constantly.

This is a funny post. First, he says that he scammed hundred times, so he's somewhat a bad ass for admitting that he is a scammer. Second, he says, it's hard to trust any people. Why would you trust someone who hacks or scams you? No one would really trust you and if you think that someone will, not anymore because you said you are a scammer. It's hard to see if you're wrong in what you are saying or not. lol

That's a hard thing to do, not to be an idiot. We are just normal people who makes mistakes, that's not something you should pressure on. You should try to help people instead of criticizing them of what they have done in the past. Don't make mistakes because it's going to hunt you but it's a way to learn.
