I want to invest a few bitcoins this year in a ico and forget about them till late next year.
What options are open to me?

Not really. Most I have read about in the news are not scams except for that dao coin but there are a lot of ico's where people make good money and I want to be one of them for 2017.

I have a few key factors.
-devs need to look serious
-there must be some working tech to try before investing
-escrow of course
-no crazy coin count. Anything over 150M coins and its a no.
-a strong community

You must only pick losers. Lots of win icos covered in the news everyday. Ico's are the future. Just ask coindesk.

2 must use reputable escrow

I have to say that there are many scams when it comes to ICOs. But I have invested in some ICOs and I am still holding tokens for long term. Take a look at WINGS DAO. The ICO is still going on. Other tokens to invest for profits would be singular dtv and iconomi. And hold some investment in bitcoins too

It's not an ICO but Maidsafe (MAID) are close to releasing their Safe Network. MAID is very cheap right now and could go to ETH prices.

none of them are good and even if one of these many ICOs get lucky in the future and reach profit, there is no way you can make sure about it today.

and besides you should all stop wanting to invest in all these ICOs, any person who invests in any of these schemes is helping this particular scamming scheme grow more and more. and after a while we will only see altcoins that are created and then live 1 month before they die completely!

I don't pick ICOs, in fact I have never ever bought into any ICO/IPO scam while I have 273 different wallets on my computer, most of which I mined at some point.

Regardless, your post perfectly reflects your (along with most ICO participants') lack of realization that you're playing a slotmachine where the house has more edge than in any casino - which says a lot.

everyone is looking for profit and where else is better than a shitcoin that goes to the moon for no reason like what ethereum did!

if your going to invest in any new ICO make sure it has a group of open developers/ no anonymity, and a business plan that can get it through the initial bounty dump....  if it looks to good to be true, it probably is.

Thanks for the good feedback and opinions. I;ve been doing some research today and last night and I've narrowed my choices down to 5 icos but I wont share that just yet. Im going to wait a week or two and narow down my selection to my top three and then we'll discuss it all together. Only after that will i make my final decision and make my investment.

I would have to say Wings and Purevidz Vidz coin looks the best for now if we are talking about ico'S but if we include other coins then I must to add xmr to the list but like I said its not a ico. All this can all change tomorrow but as it stands now those are my picks.

Im going to check out wings but its starting to seem overhyped and I hate overhyped coins. They end up losing me money like on zcash and the dao for an example but I did see purevidz and im liking what I see, their site is so fast is amazing.

That is right. It has to be very careful about the developers. If there is no good developers, it will be a scam.

Some are scams agreed but there are alot of good ICOs this year and rewarded their investors with good reward eg Xaurum, Waves, Lisks, Stratis, Iconomi

iconomi was the last good one there is no more good ico left, only people left with bagholder, stay away from ico it's better to buy well developed coin like zcash/monero and etheruem, the giant one will be with less risk, because they have a big marketcap

It depends on what you're calling good. If you're looking for some quick profit, I don't know, but for a long-term one, maybe Chronobank.

I just have seen this new ICO but not sure if it is the first day still available for the bonus of 30% or it has been passed already.

30% bonus was passing yesterday.
Just start with a little amount and try read a lot in the alt speculation thread.

And being active in the announcement thread and it will be giving a lot of knowledge about it to you.

I think 30% was for 1 day only, it was on their ICO launce, Dec 15.
And if it's during the 1st week, I think it was about 20%.
I dunno about the rest. Just check out their thread yourself.

As for me, I'm honestly still thinking about this chronobank. Gonna wait and see.

Im investing in wings and vidz this year, chronobank looks too fake with all the btc that came in on day one. Looks like another dev self bought coin. But thanks for all the help in deciding. You all made my choice much easier.

It's too early to predict if that ICO does worth or not and that's why most of the ICO give bonuses on their first days or weeks.

And what makes me think that these ICO are suspicious are the amount of bitcoins invested in the first hours.

I believe in Icobid imagine took them a lot of planning and promotion for their Ico I read the latest is the integration of the affiliate rewards for investors,they really want early adopters to really make a profit from their Ico,2017 will be a great year for early adopters of this coin.

I have learned that it's just not a good idea to spend money on ICOs, most ICos go to shit eventually, few are able to keep a good standing after the initial beating that the tokens get when actually launched on the exchanges, so we have now most ICO tokens stagnating except a few, ICN is one of the few in good standing, that's why im considering a potential investment, since I cant see anything else interesting enough.

I will be foolish to invest and forget your investment, Crypto space is still evolving and alot can happen is short period of time, for example look at Synereo which had its ICO at 33sat per token the infighting cause the price to crash to 4000sat range that is over 700% loss in investment

Chronobank looks interesting ...but there is a lot of hype...and too much hype in crypto is usually very bad. If it gets too many bitcoin I will not invest.
The best ones are the ones with something good but not too much hype

the current decline is a good thing to look for options on cheap coins. and have a future.
for ETH I think there is a good pontensi to make a lot of money. even for the bitcoin itself. I think we should address the events that happened recently.
