Well it doesn't really matter about the price because bitcoin as a technology will function just as well when the price is $0.01. However for me to live entirely off my bitcoin stash for my entire life, that would take around a $200,000 price per BTC :D

But really we can always convert our fiat paychecks to bitcoin when we receive them, so there is no problem.

It is true your assertion for someone who has like a billion dollars would not need to work again but such cannot be said to be same as Bitcoin as we dont have Bitcoin banks to pay us interest and most investment sites are scammers in disguise...

In that vain, for me, I would really focus more on the value of Btc and the forces of demand and supply determine how rise it will for me to be ready to sell at that time....

I will say I need at least 0.5 BTC to pay off all of my daily need with the rate of 1000$, and for me it is still to hard to find 0.5 a month so it is still to hard to live only depending on bitcoin and because there are no bitcoin bank, so I can't rely on interest to earn, and rely on inventing also not an option because the profit can be up and down

I would need to have it be $10k to be okay with living off it completely.
That is if I had 1000 bitcoins too. ;D
I would not need to lift a finger ever again.

Live with passive income is like a Ponzi scheme in the society. Only few people can live this way, while many others are working and creating to make all the society mechanisms continue running well. If many people start living only from passive income, our monetary system would crash, it's not sustainable.

It's a dangerous achievement... It's necessary a lot of money to live comfortably without risks, and it's necessary to think about. Maybe, when you finally reach to this achievement, many others reach too and all the system crash, resulting in cash worthless...

It all depends on what exactly I'll be doing and whether or not I'll be earning more Bitcoin in the meantime, or if I'll be living just off of what I have going for me right now.

if it's just for what I have with no earning capacity, then I need some large amount of value, $100,000/BTC would be beneficial and could probably let me live in my care for the majority of the remainder of my life with what I have, if I was to never earn again.

Many wealthy people can live off the interest of the money they have in the bank,or other passive income,  How high would Bitcoin price have to be for you to live off Bitcoin?

The concept of interest only applies to the fiat world, because fiat money is subject to inflation via expansion of its monetary base. This does not apply to Bitcoin, because its maximum supply is fixed at 21 million units.

Therefore expecting to be able to live of interest / passive income by just holding Bitcoin shows a fundamental lack of understanding the fundamentals of the currency. Bitcoin does not need to provide interest, because it just maintains its purchasing power.

The only healthy source of income comes from work, sales or providing venture capital.

You could argue that the rise in value of Bitcoin is also a form of interest, since your investment keeps growing from a fiat perspective.

To answer OP, if it goes above 50k, I'm pretty much set :)

The value of Bitcoin would probably have to be fairly high for me to effectively live off of it, assuming that I was earning what I do now and it wouldn't change under the new values. Probably not that high if I had to live off of it solely, but something around $10,000 would more than likely be far more than enough for me to earn a living off of the things I do now. Not an expensive and lavish life, but satisfactory.

the rest of my days? one hell of a lot more than it is now. well over $100,000 to be absolutely sure.

there really aren't too many people who'll be retiring at $5-10,000. those who say they will probably can't do basic math which seems to be an extremely common disability here.

If I have an investment that earns me 1 bitcoin per month, even if the price drops to 500$, I am still well off.

But if I am only to live off the bitcoin I have now for my entire life, then the price should reach millions and that may not still be enough.

I think it's not depends on how high bitcoin price is, but how much bitcoin we have. Our main focus is we should earn bitcoin as much as we can. For now, bitcoin price is near $1000, if we could have and save much bitcoin, we can make bitcoin as passive income and it could cover our expenses.

the price of bitcoin is not a factor here. if i have a couple of bitcoin and price goes to a crazy price like 1 million each then i can sell and live off. but if it we are talking about normal life then first i either have to be good at trading to make lots of profit enough to make a living or  price has to be stable and i have to earn it through other jobs.

I`m not sure that it`s possible for bitcoin to reach $10,000,but it would be great.

Until the life expenses are not running in bitcoin , i mean until the bitcoin valuation is not calculated in fiat currency till then who ever is holding bitcoin cannot get fully assured of his wealth value , so i think until the bitcoin are not converted to the fiat currency no users can tell how much is sufficient to live off in life. Because everyone have its own wishes and dreams, so no one can tell that this much is enough and if he gets more then he wont give it back.

It's hard to say because Bitcoin is very volatile but having in mind how much I earn from signature campaign Bitcoin should be worth at least 5000$ that I could cover my expenses. I'm usualy optimist but I don't think we will see that price soon and I can't relay only on Bitcoin as income spurse though that would be nice.

So I wont say what would be the price I d like to see, I ll say I ll keep BTC 2 more years and sell at that price.

As long as bitcoin can still give me profit, I will continue to support it. With ways that we can do easily like having fun in online gambling, doing micro jobs for small earners and for serious earners we have trading and online investing.

It will never end as the process is very long and will continue to grow as what we expected, the move we stay here, we will surely be benefit.

I think your question is not complete. But to answer your question, I may say the price is not worth for us, it's all depend on how much bitcoin do we have in our wallet.
Let's say I have 2 btc in my wallet, and bitcoin's price are in $10.000. well, I have $20.000 now on my wallet. But honestly, when the price is touch that price, who can predict the future of the basic needs too. I have $20.000 to invest but I have to buy breads for $12 per day.
Just calculate it if don't get what I mean.

I wish bitcoin to survive long to give life to more and more users directly and indirectly. The present price itself seems good to have a comfortable living in a third world country, if he can earn at least 1btc. Earning access needs to be increased for the better profitability.

Right now, I have BTC0.0915 with me. I need at least $2.5 million to live comfortably. So after all the calculations, I need an exchange rate of around $25 million per coin to live off Bitcoin.

I know that it is impossible. So, I never plan to live off Bitcoin. For me, Bitcoin is more like a passive source of income.

The current exchange rate of PhP 47,167 per 1 btc is more than enough to live off for a month. I'm currently working from home, when I used to work in a BPO company the salary was 20K - and that's already way above minimum wage. I'm not sure about living off bitcoin though. This current rate makes it hard for me to buy bitcoins for investing so the best I can probably do to get more is work online.

I'm not sure how to use it as a passive income. I know that the price keeps rising but if you are just going to pull out some of your profits for your expenses, that would mean you'd be left with less btc, right?

This might be off-topic but since I've already mentioned passive income, are there advertisers that pay in bitcoins? I mean, other than signature campaigns in forum like this. I've never blogged before but I've heard bloggers are paid for ads placed on their site.

bitcoin price doesn't have to be really high for me to be able to live off of bitcoin. i can make money with bitcoin at any price , as long as there are jobs to do online and also as long as there is trading going on (mostly altcoin trading) i can make more bitcoin and turn into money if needs be.

Seriously this bitcoin passive income is helping many people whom I have met in the forum. They have said this threads and some of friends also said this. I do exchange the bitcoins whenever I do not have enough fiats with me.

Those are in fact two different questions, to be able to live out of the interest generated by my small amount of bitcoins I will need bitcoin to be worth a few million, but to live of the small earnings I get every day, I will need the price to be close to 4k.

I think it is not about how high bitcoin's price for living from bitcoins, but how much passive income from bitcoin.
Because bitcoin's price is not useless if i don't have any income from bitcoin.
Amount of passive income for living from bitcoins about $10000 in bitcoin, will be enough I guess.

Once the BTC price hit $10000 price floor and the inflation rate is not damn high. I tell you, I will be free financially and I'm sure so many people here too will be. What I will advise people is to always say part of their BTC for the period like this, it seems inevitable we will hit that price in future

That seem to be the wildest dream I have ever heard ;D But yeah bitcoin does have some possibilities of rising sky high and reaching the enormous price. I cannot calculate how much I need to live off it for the length of my life because I don't even know how much will I live for. But I can calculate one year approximately. To live off Bitcoin for one year I'd need 4BTC just for survival. This means around $200 for food per month and $150 for monthly bills. This is the worst scenario - for a moderate living I'd need around 6-7BTC. Sounds like nothing, but this is real. The 4BTC could turn into luxury living with the price rising so fast though!

I can confirm that this is true, yesterday I sent a transaction and before doing it I was struggling with the idea my wallet kept indicating to me that the recommend fee was a dollar and at some point when I put an even bigger amount to be transacted it wanted to charge me 10 dollars for the transaction.

As the price is rising, it's also a great challenge to us, time will come we will be tempted to sell, I doubt if you can still hold until the price to hit $1,000,000 before you could sell. I bet, most of us will sell once seeing a price like $10,000 and that will make the whales richer because they have bigger patience than us.

for me the problem is not how much the price, but how much can i get in bitcoin if im full live in bitcoin.
in mid 2014 i can earn 0.2-0.4btc per week from trading altcoin, giveaway, etc. but today is very hard to get 0.1 week from altcoin trade, the price of bitcoin rising everyday, and altcoin price down again, my last trade i lost 0.8btc, and now i stop it

You could do what some do, you could invest in bitcoin casinos, or you could lend some coins and then obtain interest rates over it, or you could trade crypto currencies and charge a fee for the service.

I look at this from another angle. I would rather focus on the amount of bitcoins you would need to have to sustain your wealth. Let's take a simple example : If you own 1000 bitcoins and you trade for profit and double the investment every year, then you will still have 1000 bitcoins after a year and 100% interest on your investment. What bank gives that kind of interest?

This was possible with Bitcoin in 2016. I bought at $400+ at the beginning of 2016 and I sold 50% of those coins at $1010 to take some profit and to have floating fiat, when the price drops to be in a position to buy again at a cheaper rate.

The more coins you have, the higher the profit under the right conditions. Just remember that this was a good year for us.

$20,000.00/BTC for a very modest living for me.
Yeah. That is probably the right price for me to completely live off Bitcoin. The price would also have to be extremely stable like the price of gold. Otherwise I would be investing my money and then just be losing it day by day. The time is also not right to be living off Bitcoin as not many stores accept it.

It actually doesn’t really matters for me (yes it affects my trade decisions and other stuff) but since I am love with this technology, I don’t expect the price to remain $1,000 forever because as an economics student I know it won’t remain like that forever. It all depends on demand and supply mechanism so I won’t hit arrow in the air with any amount.

This is a nice strategy and one I will keep in the back of my head currently I cannot apply it but I will in the future since the price of bitcoin it is very high right now and it does not seem like such a good time to buy.

Banks are the worse way to get interest. Investing is a good option and yes the profit can go up and down but in the long run it goes up if it is a good investment. Or you can try some altcoins. I need a out the same amount of money as you per month as well.

Are there people believe that they can live from interest only? Speaking about fiat money big interest means inflation. I think that you can understand. As of passive income yes if passive we mean to have buildings and rent apartments without the need to lift my finger or something similar like to write a book once and after that publishers pay royalties to translate it in different languages and so on.

The real people living off bitcoin own bitcoin companies and making pretty good money too but individually
i see bitcoin as a source of petty cash  ::)

Exactly, it is an extra income for me, but my extra income is closer to my salary in fiat currency. But for me as the OP question my satisfaction for me to leave bitcoin, my answer is NO, I will never leave bitcoin especially in the near future, it will rise and continue rising so why leave?

Why would we have to leave bitcoin when we are making income here, bitcoin is full of surprises and promises, we can grow here more than we can grow in the real world if only our source income is just working for fiat. Actually, I can say that I have big earnings here working and investing combine than just working with my profession in real life.

Well, how DO you live off Bitcoin, even if you had an amount of coins if there are no interests to be earned? At one point, all your bitcoins are spent unless the price really shoots up to insane highs. Not everyone is able to start a bitcoin business or has a viable business idea, or the programming skills to do so. Seems to be that investing with bitcoin is incredibly hard to do since you cannot just send the coins to someone you trust on the internet just hoping she/he will pay you back with interest.

Actually this question is not relevant for me because the great volatility of bitcoin and the great uncertainty about its future prevent me from planning my retirement in terms of bitcoin. Since I am not a young man I need to be serious in this matter, and that is why all my plans are basically set in terms of ordinary currencies.

Many wealthy people can live off the interest of the money they have in the bank,or other passive income,  How high would Bitcoin price have to be for you to live off Bitcoin?
With respect to the amount of bitcoins right now I am holding, I just need $ one million price levels for one bitcoin to make a living out of it. Yes, still I am stating this price levels based on the passive income I could generate by using bank interests. According to my country bank interest-rate, I just need two million fiats for the better living here.

Receiving high returns from your investments does not have anything to do with high interest rates, it has to do with how fast you can grow your capital and how much money you need so you can live comfortably out of it.
